Love how Jones just attacks always. He should with that kind of stuff and velocity. He's my pick for future closer if he can stay healthy.

Back To The Start For Adam

October 18, 2014 by Phil Miller

MINNEAPOLIS—
Most prospects go to the Arizona Fall League to receive extra training against top-caliber opposition. Righthander Jason Adam is headed there to undo some training he received this season.

Acquired from the Royals for Josh Willingham in an August waiver trade, Adam moved to the bullpen midway through 2014 while at Triple-A Omaha in the Kansas City system. The Twins immediately moved the 23-year-old back to the rotation.

“Normally, it’s really hard to move someone from a one- or two-inning guy to a 100-pitch starter, and we would be less likely to try it if he’d been in the bullpen for long,” vice president for player personnel Mike Radcliff said. “But he was still stretched out pretty good when we got him, and we really like him as a starter.”

So the Twins told Adam, a fifth-round pick in 2010 who signed out of high school in Overland Park, Kan., to forget the three-times-a-week pitching regimen that the Royals instituted in July, and focus instead on absorbing innings.

“I understand why the Royals moved him—they thought they might need him in the (big league) bullpen down the stretch of a pennant race,” Radcliff said. “But we wanted the guy who throws strikes, gets a lot of sink on his pitches and has a couple of breaking balls he can mix in.”

Despite reliably strong strikeout-to-walk ratios, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Adam has become more inconsistent as he has climbed the ladder, but the Twins hope that has more to do with his age than his ceiling.

Adam posted a 5.13 ERA in a season and a half at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, but in his final start in the Royals system, he pitched seven shutout innings.

“He’s got all the weapons you’d need to be a reliable mid-rotation guy,” Radcliff said. “For some reason, he just doesn’t use them every time out, so we’re going to work with him on that.”

TWIN KILLINGS

• Lefthander Mason Melotakis will not play in the AFL and may require surgery to repair the unlar collateral ligament in his elbow, the Twins said. A second-round pick in 2012 whose fastball touches 97 mph, he missed much of August with elbow soreness.

• The Twins dismissed a pair of minor league pitching coaches: Gary Lucas at high Class A Fort Myers and Ethan Wassermann in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.

To sum up, the Twins are going to convert another bullpen prospect to starter.
Another starting pitching prospect another UCL.
And who gives a shit

There's a shock. Leave it set, he'll get better.

Not.

Adams? bleh, don't expect much.

Hopefully they start him in AA this year. I think a good showing in AFL will go a long way towards that.

Kid hasn't "wowed" yet but he still has done okay, has tools, and has a chance. Yes, he's been in the organization for 5 years, but he's still just 21.

A '63 Chevy Biscane, I believe. The people down the street from me had two of those. Husband and wife. One maroon and one blue.

Maybe not the same year but they certainly had the three small tail lights. The classic "lowrider" car, but these folks were real straight-laced types

The car in the movie is a 64 Impala.

The three tail lights were characteristic of the Impala. The front end and read end design of the car in the movie is that of a 64 model. Tail lights would distinguish the Impala from the Biscayne and Bel Air. The Biscayne and Bel Air had two. This difference was the case for 1960 through and including 1965. In 66, Chevy went to a solid tail light design but the impala was wider than the bel air in 66. In 59, the tail lights were a solid light package, similar to 66. The width is what distinguished the Impala from the Bel Air and the Biscayne with the solid tail light package.

Oh, when cars had unique characteristics and styling mattered.

Oh OK. So those were Impalas.

I always remembered how they parked the car on the street half the time because they were a large family. Mom and dad had the twin cars like I said (you say Impalas). This had to be the early to mid 70s so they were not new cars. And yes, I was always curious about those two cars when I was a kid for whatever reason. My dad was a Ford guy and I wished he had a Chevy. Looking back he had a pretty cool car in his own right at that time. a '72 Galaxy 500. My mom drive an older model wagon. It was a Country Squire. The '66 model I am pretty sure. Before my dad got his "new" Galaxy 500 he owned an early 60's Galaxy with those big ol round lights in the back.

I was always fascinated by cars when I was a youngster. Remember those plastic model cars? I made a whole bunch of those suckers. Loved it

I hope Jones didn't get hurt. That was a very unorthodox inning for him. Reed still hasn't allowed a run in AFL (ditto for Jones).

Kepler with a decent game too. Rosario continuing to be aggressive on the bases.

63 and 64 Ford Galaxy 500 2 door were very nice looking cars.

My brother had a 64 Ford Galaxy 500 with a 289 V8. He would drive home from Fargo after work on a early Sunday morning....no one on the interstate and cruise about 110. There were very nice. My other brother had a 63 Chevy Impala, gold, chrome wheels, black interior.....beautiful car.

My first car, a butt ugly 68 chevy impala 2 door, 327 engine, ugly green and rust.....I would drive on a gravel road and dust would rise up through the back seat.

Love the early 60s Impalas and Galaxies -- some of my favorite cars. Would love a two door or convertible, but man, they don't come cheap these days.

My uncle insists he holds the land speed record from Fort Dodge to Iowa City in his 68 Charger RT -- he had the 440 magnum engine -- only the third most powerful engine available for that car; still put out nearly 400 horses, if I recall. He made his run in the middle of the night; he says he distinctly remembers slowing down to 110 while passing trucks.

A friend of his borrowed it once -- went through a speed trap -- cop starts following him, eventually, my uncle's friend pulls over. Cop tells him he should have kept going, he was pulling away from the cop and he had no chance to catch up.

Love that whole scene

Captain Stillman: Well, explain yourselves.
Dewey Oxburger: Well sir, we were going to this bingo parlor at the YMCA, well one thing led to another, and the instructions got all fouled up...
Captain Stillman: Shut up.
Dewey Oxburger: Okay, Sir.
Captain Stillman: You men are a *disgrace*. Maybe a few days in the stockade will help you change your rotten attitudes.
Cruiser: But, um, we're supposed to graduate tomorrow, sir.
Captain Stillman: That's even better. Tomorrow, you'll be on parade in front of General Barnicke. And when he sees what total ****-ups you are, I will recommend that your whole platoon repeat the entire course of basic training.

Cruiser: My hobbies are fast cars and fast women because uh... that's why my... the guys in my car club call me the 'cruiser'.
Dewey Oxburger: Should have called him the dork!

Rosario, the No. 10 prospect in the Twins' organization, went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.
In 11 games this season, Rosario is hitting .435 and has eight multihit games and eight stolen bases.
"He's off to a great start," Haines said of the lefty-batting Rosario. "He just has a good at-bat up there, whether he's facing a righty or lefty, he competes. Very competitive at-bats every time he steps in there and likes to play."
