Training camp begins today and we get our first look at Bedard on Sunday playing in the Prospect Showcase in St Paul this weekend.
I may have to tune in on YouTube to see if he's really all of that.....

Shit.

I need to text his kids. His ex-wife and son and daughter lived down the street from me when I was growing up.

#mnwild re-sign defenseman Calen Addison to a one-year, $825,000 deal, so full slate of players will report to camp tomorrow

He’s lucky he’s Billy’s guy. If not, he’s not getting this last chance IMO.

The Wild have $818,079 in cap space remaining, meaning if they choose to carry a 13th forward out of camp, they can as of now only afford Vinni Lettieri, Jujhar Khaira, Nic Petan, Steven Fogarty or Nick Swaney. Unless they free up space, they can’t initially afford players like Sammy Walker and Adam Beckman.
We better not have any injuries or we will be using 2nd and 3rd line guys from Iowa for filler......or they play Addison as a winger.

Yup.

I agree Jeff. If all he is ever going to be is a PP specialist he won't last much longer. A PP specialist that was -17 doesn't really help our cause.

Exactly. And, he pretty much got yanked from leading the PP from what I remember.

And replaced by Klingberg who was even worse. Personally, I think Addison's shortcomings a bit overstated and due in part to the way he was used by Evason.

Sweens do you remember who he was paired with last year.

This is from a Russo question/answer piece recently on the Athletic that pretty much sums up Addison's play:

One’s got to assume sanity will prevail and Calen Addison will sign in the next few days and be on the ice Thursday. We saw him perform really well on the power play last year. But he was scratched 19 of the final 29 regular-season games and all of the playoffs. I know you genuinely like him as a person and player. So what does he have to do at five-on-five to earn your trust?

Compete defensively every single shift. There’s a different bracket of compete. So on the power play, he competes. When he has the puck, he’s intense, right? He makes plays … it’s quick, it’s hard. You have to do that on five-on-five, too. And that’s what we’re trying to stress to him is that five-on-five, defensively, you have to have that same intensity level. You can’t just wait for the power play to be good and intense and gritty, to a certain extent, which he is. That doesn’t just get turned on and turned off. So that’s what we challenged him with last year. At the end of the year, we challenged him to be more committed defensively as far as his compete level. Do the same thing as he’s doing on a power play.

In other words, bring it every shift, not just on the PP!

#mnwild have extended the contract of Mats Zuccarello. 2 years, $8.25 million starting next season ($4.125 million AAV).

Marco Rossi has left practice after taking a skate to the face. Jujhar Khaira has changed jerseys and is now on his line after being the extra

I would trade that kid for whatever we can get at this point. His head is probably all twisted around and he won't be worth much soon. A lot of it is not his fault but I doubt he makes an impact for us. Give the kid a chance by changing his scenery.

Sounds like Rossi got fortunate. He fell forward and the other player’s skate got him in the chin
A few zippers and he would back on the ice if it was a game. No reason to get all shook up in my opinion.

Minnesota Wild alternate captain Marcus Foligno signed a four-year, $16 million extension, the team announced Friday. The deal includes a no-move clause during the first two years and a limited no-trade clause the final two years, according to a team source. Here’s what you need to know:

Foligno has been with the Wild since the 2017-18 season. Last year, the winger scored seven goals and had 14 assists in 65 games played.
Earlier Friday, the Wild extended forward Mats Zuccarello, signing him to a two-year contract with a $4.125 million average annual value. The deal contains a full no-trade clause and begins in 2024-25, when his current $6 million AAV contract expires.
Playing primarily alongside good friend Kirill Kaprizov, Zuccarello scored 22 goals and 67 points in 78 games last season. In 255 regular-season games with Minnesota, he has 72 goals and 218 points.

The domino effect
Zuccarello’s deal hinted that Foligno’s deal would get done, and that Ryan Hartman’s is next.

On a Zoom call Friday, Guerin made it crystal clear that Hartman is next and they’re working on getting a deal done.

Foligno might have been the top priority for Guerin after Zuccarello’s deal was done, and Foligno made clear to The Athletic last week that he’d like to stay in Minnesota long-term, but Guerin values Hartman wholeheartedly and wants him to stay put as well. Hartman is in the final year of a bargain $1.7 million a year deal. — Russo

I just think that Dean isn't going to give him a real chance. He'll get pushed down to the 3rd or 4th line and that's not his game. Same with Addison. As soon as he makes 1 lousy play, in our end, Deano will shut him down. Gotta piut these dudes where they can flourish and not flounder.

The hope has to be we stay competitive for the next few years and our young guys are ready to make a run once we have some cap space and can add 2-3 high end free agents to go with them.....

Yeah, I get that. I guess I need to see what Hartman gets. He is NOT a #1 C. Flip his and Rossi's role for 30 games to see what the kid can do. If they redo Fleury I'm gonna beg to get hit by Tim's meteor that he hopes reigns down on all things Iowa and Wisconsin

No way they re-up Fleury! We have Gus signed and Wallstedt will be ready to come up next season....no room for Fleury. Give him enough time this year for him to pass up Roy in the record books and say thanks, now go enjoy retirement.
