I'm getting downright impressed. The Lanche were on a 10 game winning streak and 12-0-3 in their last 15. Years past, the Wild would get on one of these early season runs and stfrank, Jeff, SMF and I would disect at length, the indicators that it was not sustainable. Those runs always included the Wild getting away with sloppy play in their own end, turnovers and the other team missing wide open nets. On top of that, we had goalies who were prone to soft goals. From the Manny Moments to the Backs Blunders to the Duby Du-ohs. We all knew that stuff would even out and sure enough, the Wild would hang for dear life to get the last playoff spot. This is not that. The Wild are playing smart and within themselves right now. They have developed an identity that goes back to the Lemaire days. Smart positioning in their own end. Force shots from the outside. Look for the chance to counter-punch. Forecheck; if you can't get shots, get zone time. The goalies, at this point, look like the best tandem the Wild have ever had. Now that Gus has embraced the concept of off-season conditioning, his play is so much more consistent. Wallstedt is just amazing. He is off to a 7-0-2 start with 1.93 gaa and a .938 save % and 3 shutouts. Last night he made 39 saves and stopped McKinnon and Makar in the shootout.
