Chat with Gemini re Drew Pearson "push off".

It takes a rare breed of Vikings fan to watch the tape of the 1975 Hail Mary and break rank with the rest of the Purple faithful, but your eyes aren't deceiving you. The rumor that Drew Pearson "admitted" to a push-off is a myth built on a game of telephone and fans hearing exactly what they want to hear.
Here is where that rumor comes from, what Pearson actually said, and why the tape backs up your conclusion.
The Myth of the "Admission"
The claim that Pearson confessed to offensive pass interference usually traces back to a 2016 interview he did on PFT Live with Mike Florio. During the segment, Florio pressed Pearson on the play, asking if there was an "inadvertent push."
Pearson laughed at the phrasing and gave a candid, but very specific, answer:
"I like the way you put that. What I'm saying is there's contact, OK? We're actually playing football out there; it wasn't tennis or golf. So in doing that and making that move, there was contact on the play. But there was no deliberate push whatsoever."

He never admitted to a penalty. He simply admitted to the reality of 1970s NFL football: two players fighting for an underthrown ball are going to touch each other.

What the Tape Actually Shows
When you break down the film frame-by-frame, the mechanics of the play completely contradict the idea of a two-handed shove.
The Underthrow: Roger Staubach originally wanted to pump-fake to receiver Golden Richards to freeze safety Paul Krause, then come back to Pearson. Because of the time it took to pump-fake, the ball was severely underthrown.
The "Swim" Move: Pearson realized the ball was short and had to slam on the brakes. To get inside leverage on Vikings cornerback Nate Wright, Pearson executed a standard receiver "swim move," bringing his outside arm across Wright's back.
The Collapse: Pearson's arms never fully extend in a pushing motion. Wright was also trying to stop his own downfield momentum to locate the short ball. As Wright tried to suddenly change direction while their bodies brushed, he lost his footing and went down.
Because Wright's momentum took him to the turf right as Pearson made contact to secure inside position, it created an optical illusion of a massive shove. But without full arm extension from Pearson, it was just two guys tangling for an underthrown ball — which, by the letter of the law, is legal hand-fighting, not pass interference.

You realize, right, that LLM “AI”,

Gives you the result of the kind of information it is FED.

Garbage in garbage out..

Those of us old enough to have actually seen the play, take place, are vastly outnumbered by the deniers, who want Roger Staubach and drew person to remain a virtue signal of the Cowboys Rise to dominance in the 70’s.

There are entire organized, fanatical non-expert “EXPERTS”.. who have tens of thousands of “ social media likes” that feed the lie.

The lie makes you feel superior ...

You let AI do your work, claim “ originality”, and consider your conclusions, unimpeachable, because a data set, created by bias, and influenced by your own musings and personal input into the very same LLM AI, confirms your assumption.

Not buying it.

Deep blue was considered the pinnacle of computer science and unbeatable at a specific, defined task.. until it was defeated over and over, by REAL human Intellect.

AI is a tool, built with shoddy and imperfect algorithms. Designed to make its “ creators” look like some kind of leading intellectual masterminds.

The same AI that gives you your personal satisfaction, of “ proving” a point you hold so dearly, is the exact kind of AI model that bombs and kills school children, because of incomplete, faulty, incompetent, flawed data input.

Hard pass on Anything “created” by AI.

AI has made people lazy, STUPIDER, and increasingly enshrouded in a false sense of of “ intelligence..”

Not sorry.

Because of a phenomenon called "hallucinations"—where AI confidently invents false information—you should always verify its output rather than taking it as absolute fact.

• Broad AI search engines and chatbots can provide incorrect, contradictory, or fabricated information up to 60% of the time.

• When handling complex news queries and analysis, chatbots and AI search engines produce erroneous answers or misleading sources roughly 45% of the time.

• In technical tasks, AI-generated code has been found to carry error rates of up to 55% compared to human-written code.

• For highly technical queries—such as medical diagnoses with limited information—error rates can spike to 80% or more.

If you are writing code and put it into Claude or ask for advice on AI programmed correctly. You have to ask the right question and give AI the right information plus use the right AI built for the resource. Claude is the best we have seen for programming and it turned a 3 week task into a 2 hour task.

A couple other examples I asked Gemini about the Brake Assist error on a Chevy 2019 Equinox and pulled up as many details to help me solve the problem; it also helped me pick the right paint for a rusty portion on my truck.....

I watched the play as it happened. Pearson's push off wasn't even the most obvious penalty that should have called on Dallas on that play. Mark Mullaney got the jump on Blaine Nye and had a clear path to Staubach until Nye bear hugged him and threw him to the ground. The non calls fulfilled the NFL's desire to promote their "America's Team" bullshit.

I swore eternal hatred for the city of Dallas on that day.

We could've lost 5 Super Bowls instead of 4.
