The Lynx blew it in spades tonight. Up 20 in the third quarter and lose in OT. Series tied 1-1.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/26/2025 1:23:48 PM)

The bench needs to show up tonight. They've chipped in a combined 14 points in 2 games with only 3 in game 2. If they get it in gear and the Lynx clean up the unforced errors, they should be back in the driver's seat.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (3/19/2026 2:15:54 PM)

What to expect from the new CBA:

Then > Now

Salary Cap: 1.5M > 7M
Supermax: 250K > 1.4M
Average Salary: 120K > 600K
Minimum Salary: 66K > 300K

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (3/19/2026 2:55:55 PM)

I'm curious how the league will handle the expansion draft. Teams can protect five players each. Nobody even has 5 players under contract.

It is a mess but odds are everyone will have to have 10 signed players by the expansion draft?

IThere won't be time for that. In fact I'm pretty sure the expansion draft is scheduled before the start of free agency.

Expansion Draft - Between April 1 and April 6

Free Agency - April 7 through April 18

WNBA Draft - April 13

Not all free agents are unrestricted. There are also many that are restricted and exclusive rights free agents for 2026 as well. What is transferred in an expansion draft is whatever rights the previous team holds. There are roughly a hundred players whose 2026 rights are controlled in some manner by their 2025 teams and would be eligible to have those rights drafted away in an expansion draft if left unprotected. And they are not evenly distributed across all teams so quite a few will have to be left unprotected... Though fewer than in typical expansion drafts.

And you still have to spend protection spots on your elite UFAs to prevent your star player UFAs from being drafted away and cored. Expansion teams teams can only draft one UFA... but multiple protection spots will be spent to protect Phee, A'ja, Mitchell, Gray, and others because teams would likely take any player at that level and core them even if those players want and intend to re-sign with their 2025 teams. Which further reduces the number of protections a team can spend on players they actually hold rights to and further raises the total number of vulnerable players available in the expansion draft.

But on the other hand, with so many unrestricted free agents available... That's also more of an opportunity than usual for expansion teams to fill out rosters during free agency even though pickings will almost certainly be slimmer in the expansion draft by comparison.

It'll all work out and rosters will be filled. But it's going to a frantic free agency period with considerably more reshuffling likely occurring than in most years.

WNBA expansion draft is complete. Bridget Carlton was the first player taken. She went to Portland. Toronto took Kliundikova in the second round. Those are two very replaceable players.

Next up will be the draft and the #2 pick. Looks like Awa Fam or Azi Fudd will be the first pick.

The Carlton loss hurts. She is such a "connective" player. Super smart and versatile. Guards the post, guards the perimeter, knocks down big shots. Doesn't put up huge statlines, but really impacts winning.

Not surprised she went 1st. She's a culture setter.

She sat next to my brother-in-law on a plane a few years ago and she wrote a letter to my niece telling her she can do great things with hard work (my niece is a gymnast).

If the Wolves don't draft Lauren Betts with the #2 overall pick, it's time for Cheryl Reeve to go. She is a terrible drafter.

Yeah, the Napheesa Collier pick was awful.

Can't believe Reeve somehow accidentally drafted the Rookie of the Year 2 straight years...

I'd much rather have Awa Fam than Betts. I'm not sure Betts' offensive game is going to translate that well.

If Fam goes #1, I'd probably take Olivia Miles.

Yep, Crystal Dangerfield was rookie of the year the year after Collier. Jessica Shepard and Natisha Hiedeman turned out pretty well too. Dorka Juhazs is good post depth.

There isn't a clear cut #1 this year. Most mocks are trending toward Fam as #1. That could be from insight or from groupthink. Awa Fam would seem to be the ideal fit for the Lynx. Betts plays a true post, which is rapidly becoming obsolete in the WNBA and Reeve doesn't use one. Miles is true pass first point. Amazing passer, high bbiq and a solid shooter. She also treats defense as something optional, which doesn't fly with Reeve. My top two choices would be Fam and Azzi Fudd. Azzi is an elite shooter and a pure three level scorer. She also plays great defense. Her injury history is a definite concern.

She wasted the 8th pick on Alissa Pili in the best WNBA draft ever. Reeve overthought that one way too much.

So you are upset with who she picked with the 8th pick in 2024 with her history? [&:]

It was not even close to "the best WNBA draft ever". Yeah it had Caitlin Clark at the top, but she's more famous than great so far. She's a career 41/33 shooter that averages 8.5 assists vs 5.5 turnovers. And she was not good this year - on the rare occasion she was healthy.

The rest of the draft was meh.

And if Reeve didn't trade down in that draft, she wouldn't have the #2 pick this year.

You are so far out of your depth. Stick to fanboying for a crappy Twins squad. That's your speed.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/9/2026 4:22:44 PM)

The Lynx held the 7th pick in a 6 player draft in 2024. Reeve sized up Angel Reese and made the deal that gave us the #2 pick in this draft. After 2 years Chicago flipped Reese to Atlanta.

So here is that 2024 WNBA draft and only Clark and Reeve have made an All Star Game. That wouldn't be the definition of loaded.

If it walks like a duck...

They have over half their wins this year against the worst team in baseball.

They haven't been remotely relevant in DECADES.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/10/2026 4:28:12 PM)

Breaking: Forward Jessica Shepard has agreed to join the Dallas Wings on a multi-year deal, sources told ESPN.

She previously played five seasons in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx. Averaged 8.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game off the bench in 2025.

------------

Can confirm that Natisha Hiedeman has agreed to a contract to join the Seattle Storm after spending the last two seasons in Minnesota. I am told it's a two-year deal.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/10/2026 5:48:44 PM)

The Lynx also missed out on Nneka Ogwumike, who opted to sign with the Sparx. Alanna Smth is also looking like a long shot to return. The Liberty and Fever are both pushing hard to sign her. Things are not off to a good start.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/11/2026 8:22:21 AM)

So Matt was the 2024 draft great?
