Alanna Smith signs with Dallas. That's two starters and the two top bench players gone.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/12/2026 11:11:17 AM)

The other half of the StudBudz is staying put. Courtney Williams has reu-pped to a 2 year max deal.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/12/2026 5:27:25 PM)

McBride also coming back, but Carrington signed with Chicago.

The Lynx also signed Natasha Howard, Nia Coffey along with a couple of Czech players, 6-5 C Emma Cechova and 5-11 G Eliska Hamzova.

The talent going out looks a lot better than the talent coming in.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/12/2026 6:19:14 PM)

I really hope they take Fam if she's there. Highest potential in the draft and with our losses so far I don't see us in as much need for a "win now" player like Betts.

And I'm worried about Betts being an "old school" center. I don't know if she has the footspeed or agility to defend outside of the paint.

People don't talk about it much, but the Lynx got better when Fowles retired. As great as she was, you have to play a specific way with her - and the W has moved away from that.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/12/2026 6:42:16 PM)

Cheryl has seemed to figure it out no matter what. Isn’t it challenging to have 3 max players? You would need to go almost all minimum rest of the roster.

It's tough.

I think many of these teams throwing out max deals to role players are likely to find their hands tied with teams that never truly synergize.

3 Max contracts equals 3.6-3.8M. That only leaves 3.2-3.4M for a mandatory 9 more players to split. And with the lowest minimum contract being 270K, and the average salary being around 600K, you don't have a lot left to support your Big 3.

I really hope Dallas goes for a Bueckers/ Fudd reunion and leaves Fam for the Lynx. Signing Smith and Shepard away from the Lynx could be an indication they are going guard in the draft. Fam is the ideal center for Reeve's system.

I have the same concerns about Betts. Great college player who's game may not translate to the pros. The classic low post center is obsolete and in the NBA.

I didn't get to watch much on Fam but Betts didn't seem to dominate Sophie Hart who was playing on one leg.

Betts will have to work on her quickness to make a difference but Howard might be able to show her the ropes? Also Howard is signed to a 2 year contract.

So Phee (after announced), Williams, and McBride are at Max and Howard at 700k for 2 years? Lynx have the 2 rookies at the minimum and Dorka and Nia a little above that.

About 1 million available for 3 spots as the number 2 pick gets about 466k.

So the Lynx are in the same boat...

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 12:10:09 PM)

The final mocks today have overwhelmingly shifted to Dallas taking Azzi Fudd #1 due to Dallas filling their front court through free agency.

I really hope Cheryl doesn't take Betts if Fam is on the board.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 12:21:13 PM)

Reeve up until very recently was cautious about embracing pace & space.

Now she has the opportunity to rebuild her roster almost from scratch, what will she choose to do?

If what she wants is a full pace & space, then they have some shooting capacity they need to replenish, and with the acquisition of Howard, choosing another interior big isn't how you'd build that offense.

The sum of the movement in Minnesota suggests a big could be the priority with the No. 2 pick. Does Cheryl Reeve and company choose to make the investment in Fam’s potential and versatility? Or, is a team that has eschewed a traditional big in recent seasons inclined to abandon that philosophy and bring in Betts?

Matt continuing to stump for the only player he's heard of...

twinsfan -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 6:20:54 PM)

Olivia Miles???? SMH. Point guards this early can be huge busts.

twinsfan -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 6:22:39 PM)

I don’t like this pick.

twinsfan -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 6:24:28 PM)

We have that player with pink hair to play PG.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 6:28:46 PM)

Cool.

The only other player I wanted with the pick.

Look back one page in this thread. Miles was my clear #2 player in this draft.

twinsfan -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 6:45:06 PM)

Can't coach size.

You don't even know her name, yet you want us to take you seriously about the Lynx?

Bigs never bust?

Maybe try to have an original thought instead of parroting something you heard.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 6:46:38 PM)

Offensively, Miles is absolutely brilliant. I have no doubt that Reeve and Phee will make her give a shit about defense - she has the size and speed for it, but just never needed to do it.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/13/2026 6:56:18 PM)

I guess drafting someone that almost averaged a triple double during the tournament isn’t so bad.

I honestly didn’t see her play one game.
