So why wouldn't you just kick it right at the goalkeep during overtime kicks?

That's what I would coach.

Don't you look reallllllly dumb, that time when the keeper just stands there and catches it?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (8/23/2018 12:58:00 PM)

It's a valid tactic but it's saved a lot of the time. Keepers these days are usually very tall (6'3+). Even when they dive to either side their legs are still in the middle of the goal so there's a decent chance they can get a piece of it. This scenario actually played out during the WC this year.

On the other hand if you can bury one upper/lower corner with pace, it's pretty much unstoppable.

Gunners are looking decent today. The defense still looks like a Chinese fire drill at times, though.

Good result. 3-1. Positive progress is good.

What happened to Bellerin's potential? He looks like crap so far this entire year. His positioning has always been suspect but his speed is even gone. He's getting straight up beat to the outside pretty commonly.

He looks lost for long stretches during games. We have to look for a really good stay behind the line d guy, like Ferdinand. When Nacho is your star in the back, there is a problem.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (8/25/2018 5:51:25 PM)

We looked much better with Torreira on the pitch. That pushed Xhaka up the field where he belongs. He's a good offensive player. Can spray the ball and has a cannon of a shot. His 2 biggest problems are:

1. He's not very athletic for this level
2. He sucks as a D covering mid. Was never his game but Wenger tried to pigeonhole him there

You're right though. When Monreal is the #1 star.....that's pretty troubling. Like the guy, but come on. Can we get 2 CB's that are capable?

Knew it!!

Clint Dempsey retires from the National Team and the Sounders

One of the few names I knew a little something about.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (8/29/2018 1:14:07 PM)

I'm surprised about Seattle but not the Nats. He wasn't getting called up anymore and a lot of guys end their National career to try and prolong their professional careers. He could have been an all time great had he chose to stay in Europe IMO.

joejitsu -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (9/1/2018 10:25:12 AM)

Bournemouth is playing Chelsea to a standstill today. That's surprising.

joejitsu -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (9/1/2018 10:29:36 AM)

Crap. Spoke too soon.

twinsfan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (10/17/2018 2:54:55 PM)

Did we make playoffs?

twinsfan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (10/17/2018 2:59:42 PM)

Section sweep completed! WOOT WOOT!!

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (10/17/2018 3:08:38 PM)

Nope

twinsfan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (11/13/2018 2:25:21 PM)

Bemidji State's undefeated run comes to an end in the DII playoffs. They have been eliminated by last year's champion, Central Missouri State.

Edit: Make that Central Missouri University.

Edit edit: Make that University of Central Missouri

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (11/19/2018 3:39:31 PM)

Hey Matt, is the new soccer stadium close to the light rail.

joejitsu -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (12/3/2018 11:55:27 AM)

The Gunners do it again! That was a great match yesterday.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (12/3/2018 12:16:09 PM)

Dude, that was the best overall performance we've had for YEARS [:-]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (12/8/2018 6:37:28 PM)

I know you guys have called me 'neg nelly' and stuff about United. I get, I have been. Let this sync in for a second though to help you get where I'm coming from.

The "building from within" United, in year 2 - Bottom of the league, didn't sniff the playoffs.

Their expansion cousins - 2nd best team in the league by 7 points and are playing for the Championship tonight.

They are operating very MN-like. It's why I've been so down on them.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (12/8/2018 6:40:30 PM)

And, to keep Joe going, our Gunners got another 3 today. Worst offside decision i've seen in a long time. It didn't need to be that tight.

twinsfan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (12/8/2018 8:03:32 PM)

Are you guys talking about MN soccer or World soccer?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (12/9/2018 7:51:39 AM)

Your soon-to-be MLS champs the MN United Loons (could go both ways btw - ducks and ppl out of their minds)

Atlanta won the MLS cup in their 2nd year. I praised them for going balls to the wall while the "Loons" were being a typical MN franchise. AKA cheap.

But, to answer your question, both. Arsenal are English.

joejitsu -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (12/18/2018 3:44:01 PM)

Damn. First loss in something like 20 matches! But, we're in the hunt right now. And, a lot of the younger guys look really good. Guendouzi plays well every time he gets a chance on the field. Tottenham will be a test tomorrow.
