The post above (or on the previous page) swept the Other Minnesota Sports boards for me 3 days ago.

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (5/6/2019 6:50:32 PM)

Nobody cares.

twinsfan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (5/8/2019 4:49:22 PM)

Sweeney, do you like the new stadium?

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (5/8/2019 7:45:58 PM)

I haven't been in it. You?

Never. Not planning on it either.

Then stop asking about it.

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (5/24/2019 9:07:56 AM)

As I watch a little more, I am starting to appreciate aspects of the sport outside of the guys who score. Last year when Quintero joined the team, it was obvious that he was that much better than everyone else on the roster because he was scoring a boat load of goals. This year Metanire looks that much better than Quintero did. Backs don't show up as often on the score sheet, but it's pretty obvious that Metanire controls the whole right side of the field. He absolutely shuts it down on the back end and then transitions it to offense in the blink of an eye. Some of the lead passes he makes are amazing. Just lofts that sucker into a teammate's head in front of the goal. A couple of them, I swear that I could just stand there and he could bounce it off my coconut and into the goal.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (5/24/2019 10:02:05 AM)

It's called a 'box to box midfielder'. It's hard to find a good one because:

A. You have to have the skills and vision to make those passes
B. You have to find someone willing to work the defensive side of that role
C. Certain formations don't really allow for that type of player so you have to have a manager willing to accept it and use that formation

A lot of managers are stuck with 'their systems' and won't adapt. It becomes a round hole, square peg situation.

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (5/24/2019 10:12:33 AM)

Does that formation factor into the drop in Quintero's production? It seems like he has the ball a lot less than he did last year.

Sorry dude. This site has become a bit weird. I don't always see new posts. I came in here to post something new and now see your response.

Yeah for sure. Formations in soccer dictate whether or not you are more offensive or defensive. If you switch you can jack with someones production. Happens all the time.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/10/2019 8:08:54 AM)

And for my other thought/post. Our USMNT sucks and that's not a knee jerk reaction. That is years of waiting and hoping but it is what it is. From Arena to Bradley to Klinsmann and now Berhalter. It's just not working. We are regressing while our individual players are becoming less of a team and more individuals.

During Arena's early years we lacked skill but had a lot of grit and fight. It was cute but we were never a real threat. Now we have 3-4 guys who have the skill to compete but not the grit. And those 3 are up against a roster of 15-20 that have the same skill (or better) and have the grit.

We are heading in to another big tourney for us and just got our asses handed to us by the likes of Jamaica and Valenzuela. Not exactly top tier opponents.

I'm not joking when I say it. I think our ladies would give them all kinds of trouble in 90 minutes.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/12/2019 1:20:07 PM)

Well now. Our ladies didn't take them too lightly did they? A 13-burger is a WC record and not just a women's record. [:-]

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/12/2019 1:35:19 PM)

And they are getting flamed on social media for it. Do people not get that this isn't kids' soccer at the local rec center? This is the World Cup. Total goals and goal differentials matter.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/12/2019 3:13:59 PM)

Yeah that is just crazy. What did they want them to do? At 5-0 just stand there or miss shots on purpose? This is the biggest tourney they'll ever play in and chemistry is massive. Some of those women may never make another WC roster and you want them to take it easy on em'? Come on.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/12/2019 3:15:06 PM)

And in all honesty, it could have been worse. Another 1 of Morgan's goals was rules offside that was iffy and they missed about 20 other sitters. I turned it off at 4-0 because it was like watching NHL'ers against pee-wee's.

SoMnFan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/12/2019 3:26:08 PM)

Pathetic treatment of them today
I've been on both sides, of course not at this important of a level, but its all relative ….
People are just asshats most days
These same shitheads who are whining about it, are the same fools who would be the first to laugh at them for taking it easy and only winning by a couple.

Theres a large segment of people who don't want to admire others who are good at something.
They don't want to work hard enough to pull themselves UP
They want everyone to suck and bring themselves DOWN to their level.
Go girls. Put the screws to it. If you can score 20, score 20.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/12/2019 5:57:32 PM)

So, got home, and had a chance to watch the full highlights (like I mentioned, out at 4-0). The score doens't bother me what so ever. It is what it is and, like you said, score 20. Stop me if you can. What was pretty bush league from the reining champs were the celebrations when it was already out of hand.

At that point have class and just walk back to the center line. I don't think they should be roasted but I expected better. This isn't their first rodeo but I have a sneaky suspicion this/that was more geared as an 'F-You" to the US soccer federation versus showing up an opponent.

twinsfan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/13/2019 12:33:26 PM)

Went to a show at the Turf Club last Friday. When we got off the light rail, I pointed to the soccer stadium and said "there's the new soccer stadium!" My wife said "that's really ugly."

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/13/2019 12:44:02 PM)

And that takes care of Matt's pointless comment in the soccer forum for the month of June.

It wasn't pointless. I got another Other Sports sweep.

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/13/2019 2:15:29 PM)

Pointless and needy is no way to go through life.

twinsfan -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/13/2019 8:51:39 PM)

Is the new stadium more attractive from the inside? From the outside it looks like The Jetsons on LCD.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (6/16/2019 5:38:07 PM)

Our USWNT is a total badass group of pure athletes. Thursday will be a different level of challenge but we had 7 subs from the team that crushed Thailand and still whooped Chile's asses. Scoreline read 3-0 but, not for a world class goalie performance, could have read 8-0. It was total domination again.

Just the questions I was gonna ask.
Thanks for the perspective Jeff
I see Thailand "only" lost 5-1, made me go … hmmm

TJSweens -> RE: Soccer Made in Minnesota (7/15/2019 10:01:55 AM)

Looks like our local team is on a bit of a run. They have moved up to 3rd in the Western conference and are also in the US Open Cup finals. I hate to say it, but since Metanire has been on loan to Madagascar, the offense has come alive.

Mason Toye has climbed over Abu Danladi in the pecking order and left him in the dust. He has 7 goals and 2 assists in the last 7 games. Danladi, as he has done since the beginning, provides the occasional tease in between hamstring and groin pulls.
