The all encompassing soccer thread.

Every 4 years, we'll add a World Cup thread.

Won't need to if the US doesn't get out of it's own way

Minnesota United picked up a 1-0 victory over the coach's former team, Orlando City. They won without two of their best offensive players. Now they are in contract negotiations with a 22 year old Scottish winger Sam Nicholson.

I watched that game. They look night and day from the beginning of the year (in a good way). Not sure what Heath was expecting the way they came out tactically and team wise.

Huge qualifier tonight in Azteca. I hope Lebron doesn't fart before hand. The media buzz around that fart would drown out any mention of the game.

Talking to myself but a hell of a game by the USMNT and that goal by Bradley was sick.

I tried to post my response in the USMNT thread, but for some reason it was shut down.

Damn straight. Reminiscent of Carli Lloyd's hat trick goal in the last WWC final. Just no doubt in Bradley's head - one touch to steal the ball, and one touch to chip it in from 50 yards out. And he came sooooo close to winning it later. Very good game for the captain. And Cameron, too. Nothing wrong with taking home a point any time you play at Azteca.

That's the thing non-soccer fans don't understand. How hard it is to play in that place and we came away with a point. They did a documentary about CONCACAF qualifying a couple years ago. People (mostly Euro's) rip on the level of competition but that's BS. Sure, we don't have to play the Spain's/Italy's of the world.

Doesn't matter, different set of circumstances. CONCACAF qualifiers come with these set of circumstances:

1. 100+ degree heat in wicked humidity
2. Fields that could host the Kentucky Derby versus being a "grass" field
3. Opposing fans throwing bags of piss down on you as you take the field

It's crazy. I forget the country but they were showing the pregame locker room prep talk in that documentary. The players weren't even paying attention because the locker room ceiling was about to come down crashing on their heads from the fans jumping up and down. It was nuts.

The Loons signed 22 year old Scottish winger Sam Nicholson. Kind of disappointing. You sign a Scottsman, you kind of want him to have a name like Angus McDougall or Brennan McCracken. Oh well. Hopefully he is a good player.

Never heard of him but he played in the Scottish Premier League so one thing I can guarantee is he'll be tough. That league is pretty brutal.

Nichols is officially signed and United also added Michael Boxall, a defender from New Zeland. He played on their national team and played in the premiere league in South Africa the last 2 years.

Dreadful showing in the Gold Cup last year by the Nats. Just awful defense (if you can even call it that).

Another huge "30 for 30" coming up , this one on George Best.
I know little about soccer, but I know a lot about George Best.
Incredible story I cannot wait to see more about.

Yup, had a game winner overturned.
Flipped out on the little refs.
Got some kind of colored card for it.

Pretty amazing that ESPN had a full day of coverage for El Classico. My gosh that network is full of shit. Just a couple years ago they were in full "mocking" mode calling it a non-sport. Now they spend more money on it than anyone.

OK Jeff, the Loons acquired winger Jose Leiton from Costa Rican top-division club C.S. Herediano. They also traded allocation money to get winger Ethan Finlay from the Columbus Crew SC.

Is this anything to be excited about?

Finlay is from Duluth....does that help raise your blood pressure?

Honestly, never heard of either guy so I doubt it.
