Before #Vikings try to make interim OC Kevin Stefanski their full-time OC some competition: The #Browns have requested Stefanski for an HC interview. … Also, not only is #Colts DC Matt Eberflus getting looks, but so is OC Nick Sirianni. He’s on short lists, too, including CLE

Wow, the Vikes have a lot of coaches that have been highly thought of by other teams in the last couple of years.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/1/2019 8:42:43 AM)

I can't see promoting Stepanski to OC for next season.

Nice debut against the Fish but when put up against a top defense it looked similar to Flip offense.

IDK whom is out there but I think we need someone with more experience and a proven track record.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/1/2019 8:44:16 AM)

Looked a lot like the team quit on Zimmer.

I think the Wilf's are making a mistake but will ride this out and hope for the best.

Stepping in as OC a week before the next game didn't really give Stefanski any time to install his offense. I'm sure the dictate from higher up was to use what we have in place and just make damn well sure you run more!
I'm pretty sure he has his own ideas about how this offense should work, but we don't really know what his offense is at this time.

That's just it. If your Zimmer and fighting to keep your job are you going to take the chance on an inexperienced guy or go get a proven coach.

We already struck out with the inexperienced guy in Flippo.

Happy New Year to my Viking brethren. I want this team to play violent and pissed off every game next year. Win or lose, leave it all on the field. Not sure we have the coach for it, one more year will tell the tale.

People seem to want this, yet it seems they also want to get rid of the one player that really epitomizes that playing style..

If we got that kind of play out of Barr every week I'd say bring him back

Our dline was worse this year at stopping the run. Richardson made little to no impact and should not be brought back. Time for Zim to coach up J Johnson and Holmes.

Major resources need to be funneled to the oline.

Spielman should be canned his track record is awful regarding the oline and his choices at QB

Bottomline we were 13-3 in NFCCG and had a bazillion FA dollars to spend and a full draft ... then we went 8-7-1 and no playoffs with a seasoned defense and ready-to-win-now mantra. I am still wriggling that hook out of my cheek.

Bring back Richardson if it is in the 6-7 million per year range. He did some good things but seemed to wear down at end of year. Linval had an off year(injuries).

Would Gase and Zimmer be compatible? I don't think Gase gets a HC job this year. Maybe he could be the guy that gets Cousins over the hump.

Parry probably needed to be with the team all year. Johnson and Johnson aren't the answer for stopping the run consistently.

Great point about Parry. If none of the young guys could have made it to the practice squad (like our 4th rounder last year) we should not have carried a guy like illoka on the roster. Coulda used Parry to spell Joseph more and keep him healthier.

Big offseason for Rick:
Find two competent interior guys. Probably need one in FA and one in the draft. The unfortunate situation, last year in a draft teeming with interior guys that could start day 1, we chose none of them. This year the draft is thin/not good/terrible for interior guys that can start.
Need a WR that can stretch the field. If we have that, we can probably get by with a restructured contract Ruddy. So many teams have WRs picked after the third round that have promise. Who on our roster showed that kind of promise? Beebe for sure, but he's a 3rd down/slot kinda guy. Otherwise we need a TE that can stretch the field.

Big offseason for Zimmer.
Got outcoached in the majority of our losses: Mcvay/Rams. Nagy/Bears 2x, NE/Billy. I don't singularly blame him for the NO, BUF, or SEA losses.
Needs to self-scout his performance and figure that s*** out asap.

Big offseason for Cousins.
Love his talent. Best option/choice we had and I'm excited for yr two. Horrible at improv. I don't know if you can fix it, but he needs to work on that.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/1/2019 12:06:11 PM)

I don't want to give Cousins a free pass but if all year long you knew you could be, or were under instant pressure it would have to take its toll. With what we had he put up numbers no other QB has (I believe) the 30's TD's, 10 or under INT's, 4000k yards, and 70+% is unprecedented. I think he could throw the shit out of it out there if things were running a lot smoother. I think he can get there and we'll all be super pleased. Shame it wasn't instant gratification but it could still hit.

We had the 6th tandem WR's to get 100/1000. There could be a lot of sunshine next year if we can just settle the damn OL. We don't even have to achieve good next year...

247 Sports says the offensive line talent is actually better than 2018, that may or may not be true, and that doesn't necessarily mean interior guys, but with the wealth of defensive guys at the top it might mean we can trade down from 18 and get some quality interior guys, maybe 3 picks from about #24 (best OG in the draft?) or so through our 2nd rounder at #50.

I would assume that means offensive tackles (last year was not a good year for that). From what I read interior lineman talent is much worse this year. If there are only 1-3 guys that can start on the interior, depending on grading, I'm TRADING UP., not down. Still a lot of team with oline needs that pick before us.

This is how I feel. Read that he was 6th best vs pressure this year, but the number went from 90some % to 83ish from midseason to end of the year.

Give him a solid OL, OC, and another reliable weapon, Cook healthy for a year, and I'm excited to see what he can do (I still hope they practice plays breaking down as a point of emphasis in OTAs and training camp.

Treadwell is a 100 catch guy. You would just have to throw to him about 400 times.

Daniel Carlson finished 16–17 and made all his PATs for Oakland. Don’t talk to me about pressure kicks - the kid was kicking to save his career every time he went out there. If speilman and zimmer are safe for the love of god let’s at least get rid of Priefer.

Of course I agree. To me the pressure of being released after 2 games and having to prove yourself was no easier than starting off your career hoping to make a name for yourself.

The second it's confirmed he's staying, if that's the way they go, is the second I'll have no faith that anything changes that gets us over the top. The worst thing is thinking if asked right now Zim would lock him in.

The handling of that situation should get all 3 fired.

#1 you're dumb to draft a kicker in the 5th round.
#2 you're really dumb to trade up to draft a kicker in the 5th round.
#3 you're super dumb to cut the kicker you traded up for after 2 games. Sure I wanted a new kicker too, but I thought they should put him on the practice squad, not release him. Dumb to give up the asset you spent so much on for nothing.
