This team has me all confused. Just when I think we're seeing significant progress - we don't show up. The losses to SEA, GB, and even KC on the road didn't bother me (I wasn't happy - but I didn't consider it the end of the world). We were 1 or 2 plays away in each game from winning in tough environments. This last game was similar to the Bears game. A sh** show.

I'm not as worried about the talent drain. We have a lot more cap flexibility than ppl think and candidates for restructure/release. Ton of young talent. Young players I am excited about include: Holton Hill, Harris, Obi won, JJ Johnson, Watts. Irv Smith, Mattison, Udoh, Samia, ONeil. Just to name a few. We've got extra 3rd round comp pick and I believe 10 already for next years draft.

I think we've got a great group of coaches for player development on both sides of the ball.

On the other hand, Monday night could have been a statement game. And we simply did not show up. Petine had a vice grip on Kubiaks/Stef's nutsack. He was clearly one step ahead, knew we weren't going to roll out and had a great game plan. It also helps when you can get instant pressure rushing 3 or 4 (THE BIGGEST COMMON THEME the last 31 games) ie losing 1:1 battles on the line. As Jeff said, we did nothing to adjust during the game. Stef gave me hope against the Broncos with his whiteboard but I did not see any changes vs GB. Bottom line we let them take away our biggest strength and had NOT A SINGLE counter for it.

I would love to see this team with continuity, something we haven't had at all on the offensive side since Zimmer started. For that reason, I think we should not make changes and give everyone another year. At the same time, it really doesn't feel like we can take the next step with Zimmer and Rick.

I wish discussing the Vikings was a happier thing to do, now. I know that we are all hurting and disappointed. I wish I had some magical way to fix it all. This is the time of year where we wish everyone the best.

We'll see how it finishes out and then we'll just have to rest and heal before the next new season. That's what the players do and that's what we the fans can do.

Sunday's game reminds me of the fourth preseason game where the starters rest and prepare for the opening game.

Dakota Dozier is staying late after practice to snap to Sean Mannion. Dru Samia next to him at right guard.

Could be foreshadowing for Sunday. (Sam Ekstrom on Twitter)

Regarding the O-line from Monday night: I think it should be said that it wasn't the entire line that played poorly. O'Neil and Kline were lights out. We didn't do much to capitalize on that but I think they deserve their due credit. They were incredible.

Left side was terrible. Smith was beating Reiff like a drum and also lined up inside and torched Elflain as well. Bradbury with 0.0 PFF score was simply punked by kenny Clark.

Too early to give up on Bradbury but we absolutely need to shore up the left side. Elf and Reiff have played ok at times but when we face a good dline they just get destroyed. And GB's dline is not exactly a world beater.

Then, as mentioned, we don't make adjustments.

I think it was a DN article that pointed out how Stefanski just abandoned the run (70% pass).
I know the run wasn't working but you still need balance. Poorly called game.

Probably been talked about many times already. Since before the season started, the left side of the O-line has really bothered me. LT and LG really seem to suck, those positions are well below what we need if we want to run the ball against decent defenses. Mike Harris started all 16 games at right guard for the Vikings in 2015, but he hasn’t played since. Now he wants to try.

Harris spent the 2016 season on the non-football illness list and retired in 2017 because of a congenital condition known as brain arteriovenous malformation. But Harris told Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press that he hopes he can get back on the football field.

How is even possible to get sacked 3 times when they had a three man rush? And they weren't coverage sacks either.

This one is easy. It takes, on average, a combination of three Vikings olineman, TE, or RB to block each dlineman. If the Vikings put a RB into the pass route, it leaves only seven to block. That means two of the three dlineman are under blocked. It also explains why when rushing four dlineman there is about an 80% chance of a QB pressure and 100% when the defense blitzes.

Great! The Vikings will limp into the playoffs having lost their last two games to division rivals. This just after Kyle Rudolph was quoted as saying, "it is all about how well you are playing at the end of the seaason."

I don't have an issue with them resting players and get everyone healthy. We can't improve our playoff position at this point.

I think the bears Dline is a bad matchup anyhow and if they stifle our starting offense I think it would do more damage than good from a confidence stand point.

Plus it will give us a chance to see if some of these young guys like Samia and Udoh.

So would we rather go to Seattle or New Orleans for our wild card? Im thinking we match up better against the Saints, and both teams are struggling with injuries, though its likely Seattle will exert more effort and more prone to let down after their big game this Sunday eve with Niners?

No matter, really sucks we potentially handed Rodgers and Pack a first round bye with our shit play last week, not even showing up at home...

Oh what a dream it would be to actualy have a coaching staff that can develop young talent and know when its time to plug them into real playing time situations rather than only rely on how the entrenched starters did in practice playing with the ones and never give a chance to youth with raw talent before watching them become starters on teams after they walk on from the Vikings...

Kind of a weird spot all around. Are we set, and confident to go play a good team on the road in the playoffs? Is Thielen healthy or rusty? How do you decide which starters play?

And, as you said, what's the take away if somebody plays well?

The only thing I know for certain, if Mannion plays mediocre, he more than likely locks down his spot for next season. That's how we do it. No desire to develop a young QB. Just hope your starter is great, and his back up is a veteran, doesn't matter how awful.

Would be encouraging if we ever showed signs that we are interested in winning, AND willing to develop young players, especially QB's and WR's.

Not a big fan of losing on your way to the playoffs. Sets a horrible tone, unless you are a great team. So..... I hope we win this one, regardless of who plays. I think it's important.
