The Bears were favored to win all 4 of their games, 2 home, 2 on the road against bottom feeders. They only won 3 of those games.

The Packers were favored to win 3 of their 4 games, and have won 3.

The Vikes were favored to win 2 games, dogs in 2. Won the 2 they were supposed to win, lost the 2 they were supposed to win.

It's hardly time for the mass bridge jumping we are seeing.

Most people understood that with a new blocking scheme and 3 positions with new starters, the OL would be something of a work in progress until around midseason. It's been good enough against weaker opponents early on. The Vikings should be favored to win the next 4 games. Do that, and we are talking 6-2 after 8 games. And potentially the OL could be rounding into form by then, by the time we roll into KC with a 10 day break people could well be singing a different tune. Who knows, maybe Samia and/or Udoh are contributing by then.

I didn't expect to Win in CHI, but when Trubisky went down on the first drive I expected better than we got. I think Zimmer gets out-coached by the brightest coaches. He won't bring us to the promise land. I'm done with Spielman too.

I can’t dispute Zimmer getting outcoached ... but as soon as Daniel threw 2-3 passes I was praying for Trubiskey to get back on the field. CHI scored 16 points, its not like they crushed our defense ... I really don’t blame ourselves for making journeyman Daniel look good. I just think he threw the ball very well under the circumstances, made one good decision after another - much better than Trubiskey would have IMO.

Made Cousins look bad too.

IMO their wicked defense played a super game without some of their starters ... aided by our lame gameplan (this is what WE are going to do to you VERSUS we are going to try and exploit YOUR weaknesses) ... our qb and ol got small in the moment. Their offense did just enough.

Yes he does. Just the fact that he provides the candidates to make the final roster alone means he has considerable influence on who we keep.

Saw some of the coach's tape and couple of things:

- Elf was abused out there. Reiff had issues with Mack.
- Cook needed to be more methodical in this game, he was looking for the bigger creases but he should have put his head down and taken 4 yards when it was there. The DLine of the Bears just overwhelmed the OLine, anything outside was funneled inside with ease.
- Cousins had some moments where he missed guys but for the most part he had no chance. I wonder how well he's handling the Kubiak system, the play action game can buy time but Kirk is struggling with A) getting destroyed a quarter of the time and B) re adjusting himself after taking his eyes off the coverage.
- The D was good especially Griffen. Griff abused Leno and if it wasn't for some quick releases by Daniel he could have had a 3 sack day.

Frustrating game for sure but the Bears might be the best team in the NFC.

NO matter who is making calls on who we keep it makes no sense our identity on offense this year with structure of team and especially resigning guy like Rudy if we are so very pass conservative in philosophy...

Management leaves fans scratching their head far to often, why did they invest all the cap space into the passing game and then not use it much in games this season
Quarterback Kirk Cousins and wide receivers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs count for a combined $49.573 million against the Vikings’ salary cap in 2019. It’s the most in the NFL for a quarterback-receiver-receiver trio.

The Vikings are also last in passing attempts, second-to-last in passing yards (behind the Dolphins and ahead of the Jets), and third-to-last in passing touchdowns.

It does leave the impression that the GM and HC are not on the same page.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2019 10:53:14 AM)

The drama with Diggs is exhausting.

Dude, don't fumble the ball when we have a good drive going on the road. Keep your helmet on while on the field. Act like a grown up, not a petulant child. You make a ton of $$$, go earn it.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2019 11:26:05 AM)

Vikings defense was fine against the Bears. If the offense did anything at all the Bears wouldn't have had the ball that much to score what little they did.

You give up 16 points in the Very Offensive Era of the NFL you should win.

Vikings problems are national news now, I have listened to more than one national talk radio program discuss the team in detail.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2019 11:31:57 AM)

I didn't think the Vikings defense was fine. An offense minus its starting QB and a receiver who caught 3 TD passes the week before, pushed our defense all over the field and kept the ball away from our offense. Rhodes looked like an old man in pass coverage. A good offensive team would have shredded us.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2019 12:48:59 PM)

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain, the team announced Friday.
Although he hasn't officially practiced with the team this week, Barkley has been working out on the side. He said he "felt good" after running on Thursday and even got to open up and cut a bit more than he did the previous day.

jbusse -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2019 1:00:21 PM)

Interesting to see that Kaare Vedvik turned down a tryout with the Patriots for placekicker because he's now focusing only on punting and kick offs. Kai Forbath tried out, but they went with Mike Nugent.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2019 1:28:08 PM)

In the realm of good news the Vikings have a robust net punt average this season of 43.3. That's higher than any season average since 2011 (and possibly it's the team record - I quit looking back at 1995) during which period our results going backward were 41.5, 39.2, 39.0, 37.8, 38.7, 39.2, 39.7, and 38.0. We are also one of only three teams to have blocked a punt so far this season and have had none blocked against us.

For over 50 years I've been following this team, since the days I lived on Fulton Street in Mankato. Now Im just about done with the NFL and every day I am finding it harder and harder to give a crap about this team. We all talked about the flaws that Cousins had prior to bringing him here and now those flaws are on full display for a team I have shed so many tears for over the years. But now it's different, a lot of us saw this coming, a guy who can play very good if there is no pressure to perform and the Oline is all world, but our management didn't see this. For some reason, they decided to spend money on receivers and change the phylosophy of the team to ground and pound. Not sure how much offensive line talent they could have gotten over the past couple of years if they had saved the money and went for Oline guys, but this shows absolutely no intelligence or foresight, not a hint of understanding what we were trying to do. Many around the league and on these fan pages knew what Cousins was, and now we have division on our team and before too long, heads will roll. All because of one really bad decision. No wonder Cousins demanded guaranteed money, he absolutely knew what he was and played the Vikings against the Jets like a pro. Just another embarrassing chapter, somehow it's starting to hurt less and less each time.

Pretty simple...get us the damn ball if you want to win. Put us in the game plan as you haven't much so far. Don't mind both Diggs and Thielen speaking up. Usually you don't give both a big contract and then take the ball completely away from them.

Diggs had 44 targets the first 4 games of 2018, 19 so far.
Thielen had 56 targets the first 4 games of 2018, 22 so far.

I believe they both have achievable production-based incentives in their contracts that they are almost sure to miss that will likely cost them millions, not to mention the impact this will have on their next contract. Their point of view is likely 'I gave them a hometown discount but with incentives that would help make up for much of that, and end up getting screwed due to shitty and timid QB play and throwing less than all other teams'.

While we build Cook up to be the best back in the league, which is ammo for his contract negotiations.

The Wilfs are far from terrible owners. Spielman and Zim have put together a solid roster. The Wilfs are merely giving them a chance by giving both one year extensions to see it through. While none of us know what measure of success is expected for them to keep their jobs beyond this season we assume the playoffs are expected.

Tearing everything down is not a decision that should be taken lightly.

Nicely said. The Wilfs have spent money on the roster and facilities, and they've certainly benefited from the new stadium. They've stuck with Spielman because every other year it looks like the team is on the precipice of something big, with the solid 2015 and 2017 teams. It does seem like it's coming to a head this time given the QB situation and the mediocre play.

Vikings punish Stefon Diggs, he practices, but playing status is undetermined

Stefon Diggs has been punished for his absence on Wednesday and is good to go, but Vikings coach Mike Zimmer wouldn’t commit publicly to playing him against the Giants in New Jersey on Sunday.

“I don’t know,” Zimmer said Friday when asked if Diggs will play. “We’ll see.”

Asked if Diggs looked like his old self in practice Thursday and Friday, Zimmer said, “I have to watch the tape.”

Asked what he’ll base his decision on when it comes to playing Diggs on Sunday, Zimmer said, “Got to watch the tape.”

Then, when asked to confirm that it will be based on how Diggs practiced and not based on punishment, Zimmer said, “He’s already been punished.”

Zimmer is the cancer on this team.

He's dug in, and is convinced his 70s style ground and pound, with Ham leading the way, is the best way to win.

If he's already punished Diggs, and the man is practicing, is more punishment required?

No wonder this roster is under-performing. Too much drama led by a spiteful head coach who keeps shit going.

You know what I mean. When it comes down to deciding who makes the 53 man roster, that's the coaching staff making those decisions. He might have some input on who we then sign for the practice squad, but even then it's mostly based on info provided by the coaching staff. There may be financial/salary considerations, even then that would probably involve Rob B. more.
