Rudolph contract per sportrac

2019........9.35ml.......dead cap 9.2ml

2023....... 10.2ml......................1.45

I am not worried---I think he will restructure after this year. The key will be to keep the cap number down, which they did.

You have his cap hit wrong for 2019....it is only 3.5 million....they reduced his cap number by 4 million by extending him.

And if they cut him after the season, they are hit with $5.8 million, not $5.8+$4.35+$2.9+$1.45.
They were already obligated to pay him this year, so the $5.8 million does not all represent a new obligation. Roughly a quarter of the $5.8 million is additional money that the Vikings are now obligated to pay him. It may seem like the $5.8 million is a large dead cap hit for next year, but the other possibility was to instead get hit with $4 million more this year.

???
They reduced the cap hit this year by 4 million by signing/extending him.....I don't like the contract and they can restructure but the cap hit is only 3.34 this year.

Not sure why you have ???

I haven't said anything to disagree with the numbers you're posting.

Unless he picks up the pace quite substantially, I don't see any way they keep Rudolph around after this year unless he agrees to re-structure at the level of a vet minimum contract. We have plenty of cheap alternatives.

Next year, the Vikings need to find a way to jettison Rhodes and his contract, and resign Waynes and Alexander to start alongside Hughes. In addition, they need to jettison Rudolph and his contract and find a way to sign at least one upgrade at Guard (yet again). Not sure Spielman and Brez can pull it off, though.

Philly TE Dallas Goedert, who seemed pretty promising as a draft prospect last year, currently has just 43 yards on 5 receptions.

Not to mention, Goedert missed 1.75 games. And has been on the field less than 1/2 the snaps of Rudolph. Oh, and Goedert really is a good blocker.

From Adam Kaplan:

On offense, Vikings should go after corners downfield (Craig James should not be on the field, but they have no alternative) and linebackers on screens.

For Eagles, DeSean Jackson and Darren Sproles will not play.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/9/2019 11:41:52 AM)

Its almost impossible to justify Rudolph’s contract. The fans for every team get fed up with under-performing over-paid players that somehow get extended contracts and linger WELL beyond their usefulness. I don’t know if our team has had more of those than the average but its natural to think so (and imperative if you don’t like Spielman).

Rudolph is a little different. He’s not a talentless pondersque hack - he has been a top ten performer at his position (although we are all painfully aware of the very limited short-area production of that contribution). That solid production is long gone and there might not be a slower starter in the league at a skill position - but his size, catch radius, hands, body positioning, and veteran savvy to work short-area space make him a very useful option in our short yardage and red zone offense. Even now. IMO these attributes (along with not having another big bodied option on the roster) probably weighed more on the contract than the leadership / community persona that some in here have espoused. [I doubt Spielman or Zimmer have any illusions about the pressure to win now]

I think Rudolph gets a bum wrap for his blocking. Mostly because it took him so long to get from embarrassing to adequate, and you would expect someone with that size to be much better.

His stats this year are meaningless, he has obviously been asked to stay in and contribute more to the run than ever before. Zimmer has complemented him on it publicly. Important to me, in interviews Rudolph has openly accepted the new role and embraced it with some pride - rather than grouse about the change in scheme like Diggs.

I’m no Rudolph apologist - I can’t wait for Smith to get up to speed. I’m no Rudolph hater either.

looking at rudoph's contract on spotrac it looks like his 2019 cap hit is $3.5m and his 2020 cap hit is $8.8m with dead money at $5.8m....

so, if we cut him after this season we've paid $3.5m + $5.8m (dm) = $9.3m for using him this season...that's a little more than what it would have cost if we did nothing to his old deal, but we did get some present cap relief....
