After the draft is a second wave of cuts and bargain shopping. I expect his value/price to go down the longer he goes unsigned.

It it possible or even probable that he signs for 8M or more? Sure - it only takes one GM. I thought Griff played well the first half of the season and trailed off noticeably. He logged 1 sack in the last 4 games (excluding playoffs) and was completely shut out in the SEA game while playing 60% of the snaps (no tackles, sacks, assists, etc)

If he is resigned, DE becomes much less a need and you can address other needs better through the draft. For me though, a 4M deal with incentives that get him up to 6-7M is all I do.

I don't think he gets 8 mil at this point.
And I do think he has faded a bit in the 2nd half of the season the last couple of years.
But watch the Saints playoff game... he was really really good.
Very torn on Griffs value.
Love him as a Viking.

IIRC when Griffin emerged we let an aging vet go(who was that). This could be history repeating itself, but I don't really think so. OdinBigo has his strong points, but not sure if he's ready to be a full time starter.

Griff's value need to be put in the context of a cap strapped team.

i think this is a good thing for us - now we most probably won't extend cook with an expensive contract...he and his agent will want too much....

Robison wasn't even a starter his last year. 3 of his last 4 seasons as a starter were 5 sacks or less ... he retired at 35 ... so of course he took less. He was hanging on.

Griffen had 13S in 2017, went 'off' in 2018 and still had 5.5 sacks (starting 10 games), and then had 8 last year. Griffen is still a legitimate starter (Clowney had 3S last year in 11 GS).

4M is not going to happen, I don't think. Maybe 8M as some have said.

Now to me, 4K is big money much less 4M ... but to a starting LDE with one odd year out of a solid career, 4M would be a slap to the face and would mean accepting that your career as a starter is over.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I just can't see a Griffen contract with us not getting in the way of helping other positions and the cap in general.

And it might be that OR completely out of the league as options.

That's right. So you take the 4M.

But unlike me and most non-professional athlete human beings, you take the 4M dollars and have to come to terms with your value in the workplace AND your career being far less than you thought it was when you started the FA process a month ago.

As far as I can tell, most people don't like to work for far less than they think they are worth. Or for far less than they think the job should pay ... is being paid to others who have produced far less.

Exactly. I qualified my original statement.

Nobody should feel sorry for Griffen or anybody for making 4M to play this season. That has nothing to do with trying to understand the context of his situation.

I imagine that a lot of these athletes have a lot of pride. Pride is what has motivated them to be so great at football all of these years and in the end pride and love for the game will enable them to keep going for less money. I suppose this is easy for me to say while I sit on my behind and type on my keyboard.

Vikings have $12.26 million in cap space; Beckham has a $14.25 million cap number.

For purely financial reasons, it'd take another move (like Anthony Harris) for this to even be feasible.

Beckham still has his skills from what I hear and those skills are substantial. He might become very happy with a QB like Cousins who throws a great deep ball. His contract of course is also substantial. The rumored compensation is just next years 2 and 5.

The #Vikings and #Browns are discussing a trade that will send star WR Odell Beckham Jr. to Minnesota for a a 2nd and 5th round picks next year, according to @MarcMalusis

The #Browns traded a 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick and Safety jabrill Peppers for Odell last season.

oh my...OBJ could be a scary addition to the offense

BUT, we get rid of one diva and bring in a super-diva?

and the financials just don't seem to work...

too many good WR's in the draft to make this trade...but a 2nd and 5th is really worth his talent

Florio outlines many reasons why not to do this trade:

I'm good with this as long as it doesn't go over $11 million a year AAV. He's sure worth more than Waynes who got a $14 Million a year deal.

This is how it reads on RotoWorld
ESPN's Josina Anderson reports long-term contract negotiations between the Vikings and S Anthony Harris are in "the realm of what's necessary to finalize."
TwinCities.com reported in March that the two parties were "actively discussing" a long-term contract, and it sounds like progress is now being made. The Vikings placed the franchise tag on him before free agency began, possibly with the intention of trading him to a safety-needy team. With the 2020 NFL Draft just a few days away, it's possible that trade talks pick up again. Harris is expected to command double-digit millions annually.

The wording makes it look like it will happen.

Harris and his agent might be thinking that it might not be smart to play hard ball. Possibility of fan-less games might affect future salary caps(although TV contracts should still be the same).

Get 20-25M guaranteed and call it a day.

We gave him a 2nd Round tender. 3.2M

If someone signed him to offer sheet(no one did), we have one week to match or we get that team's 2nd Rounder.

We have him for 1 year. UFA in 2021
