How about the Vikings send RB Dalvin Cook to the Eagles for WR Alshon Jeffery and a 3rd rounder ?

It's a passing league, and Mattison is almost as good as the injury prone Cook.

Draft Pittman or Edwards and keep Cook.

Omg yes to that strategy. Trading a star RB while with 2 years left on his cheap rookie deal would be possibly the worst thing a team could do.

Marty thinks you should 10 WRs on your roster....I remember just a few years back he said we should draft one the first 3 rounds.

Although the fifth-year option is way more expensive than any of the previous four years I still consider the entire contract to be cheap even if the fifth-year-option is exercised. Likely will be about $9 million for his fifth season.

It just seems like he was a 1st rounder. he was our first pick.

Cook's cheap rookie deal ends after this year.

So rookies(after 1st round) have the option of signing a 4 year deal then becoming UFA or 3 year deal and then becoming RFA.

Speculation that Vikings are favorites to sign Dre Kirkpatrick.

It's buried in the broadcast not sure where. Lots of rumors about players like Ngakoue, Clowney etc....

"On Anthony Harris... Negotiations [with the #Vikings] didn't go quite so well... I would say a trade is back on the table. He could get moved on draft weekend... I think playing out the season on the franchise tag is off the table."

The big problem here is that the Vikings "KNOW" what Harris is worth and Harris and his agent have a different idea. Bummer, I like that kid. The Vikings could be looking at bringing a Safety FA real soon. Lots of guys not having a problem leaving Zimmer, he's old school and that doesn't go well with today's young men, they have a different idea on how to treat people. Look at the difference between Pete Carol and Zimmer, both solid coaches, totally different philosophy. both about the same age, just one grew with the job and the other feels the players need to adapt to him. That worked 30 years ago, today, not so much, look at the coaches in todays NFL.

Agreed. Zim's "get the hell off of my lawn" attitude doesn't fly with today's young people.

One thing about "time". It's always changing so you either change with it or fall in it's wake.

People are making a lot of assumptions about Zimmer being a dinosaur and all that. We don't know.

It's pretty obvious to those paying attention.

If you say so.

I do.

There you go. I personally see these dinosaur accusations as just frustrated fans looking for a reason to be unhappy with a pretty successful coach. In the last three seasons the Zimmer coached Vikings have finished 3rd, out of the playoffs and 5th. Now according Ricky Bobby that is bad. According to his dad that is pretty good.

It's pretty well documented that he's an old school hard nosed coach. Calling him a dinosaur is not a revelation by any means. Doesn't matter if he had some modicum of success. He had great players, he should've been successful. He's not one of the innovative minds in the game, that is clear.

Yes that game was zimmer’s masterpiece. I also loved the opener when we barely threw at all. I don’t give a crap about ‘passing a lot’. I’m interested in being willing to ignore conventional wisdom like ‘have balance’ of there’s a matchup, tendency, and/or deficiency to exploit. I learned this when Belichick came in and ignored our Williams Wall and threw on us all game long.

Was that when Bledsoe passed like 70 times?

If memory serves correct is seems like they passed like 40 out of 45 plays during a certain stretch of the game. I'm pretty sure it was Brady at qb.
*edit I looked it up and I think it was the game in 2006.

Nope.

One of the men to go over 4,000 yards in 1994 was the New England Patriots’ Drew Bledsoe. The quarterback, who was drafted first overall one year earlier, actually led the NFL in passing yardage that year with 4,555. He also was the league-leader in another category: Bledsoe attempted 691 regular season passes — and 70 of them came in a single week 11 game versus the Minnesota Vikings; a record that still stands today.

The game probably was in 2006 because Pat Williams became a Viking in 2005 and Belichick became the Pats Head Coach in 2000.

Parcells was the Pats Coach in 1994 and Denny Green was the Vikings Coach.

Pretty amazing that we had the William's wall in 1994! [;)]

I wanted 3 WRs drafted in the 1st round when the Vikes had ZERO WRs, hoping they might hit on 1 or 2.

The Vikes had 2 good ones, now they have 1, although Bisi seems to have potential.

If the Vikes can draft 1 good WR, get one that is comparable to Diggs, in a WR rich draft, it will appear to be a great move trading Diggs. And even better if they draft some of other great players on top of it.

marty -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (4/9/2020 1:12:42 PM)

Just seeing what you folks thought of, as far as trying get Jeffery, he is a great WR.

I would also hate to lose Cook, hopefully the effect of losing Diggs doesn't hurt as much as it could.

True. Looking quite not promising. Maybe whoever drafts Herbert will claim him off our PS and that will be the start of one of the most prolific tandems in NFL history.
