I know I'm in the minority, but I like what I see about KJ Osborn.

I also like these highlights from Hinton.

CB: Hughes, Hill, Gladney, Dantzler are locks. Do you cut Hand, Boyd, and Fields (PS?) for a vet bandaid thereby ensuring more players like Samia won't have snaps?

I like competition. I would bring in Fitztpatrick. How many snaps played between those guys? Hughes has by far the most experience and has 742 snaps in two years. And coming off a neck injury. Hill has 542. Boyd 96 snaps. Probably send Hand and Fields to the PS if I was guessing in April.

I didn't say anything about bringing anyone in for Guard or DT.

Zettel, Yarbrough, Wonnum, Ifeadi and Hunter on our roster. We had a four DE rotation last year. Zettel has only 45k guaranteed so I'd cut him in favor of Griffin. One of Yarbrough or Wonnum goes to PS.

Rosters are expanded so there is that as well.

Boyd is a special teams star in the making so he isn't going to get cut.

Hand, Fields, Clarke and Sayles(CFL) are fighting it out for the 6th spot.

Play some Crazy Train on punt and kick returns.

I wonder if any relation to Chris Hinton, former Viking guard.

Assuming our draft picks in the first 3 rounds all pan out, we could really be set up for 2021. We can dump Reiff's big contract, our oline will be young and cheap at both T positions, and we'll be young and cheap at CB. Our WR corps will also be cheaper without Diggs contract. Unfortunately, this year we still have BIG question marks at CB, WR, and OL.

Taking a look at the (likely) post-draft roster, the Vikings have a few needs to fill out via FA. There will be some vets cuts, hopefully a few that can contribute to the Vikings:

CB - we have an influx of talent but almost no NFL experience at the position
S - need depth with NFL experience
OG - currently 3 guards on the roster and one is Eflein(!). Samia will man one spot (33 total snaps in the NFL) and if one of our T move to guard they will have zero NFL experience. Dicey.
WR - very thin at the position, should add a vet with deep speed

If everything breaks right for the Vikings they should be competitive this year, but currently teams like the 49ers and Chiefs seem like they're in a different league than us.

Good stuff. I would add DE and DT to the mix. We were one of the youngest teams the last couple years and got younger. Makes sense to bring Griff back. Be a big year for guys like Watt/Irv to step up.
Guards we have Elf, Collins, Samia, Dozier, Jones - right? Not counting the late rounders drafted.

I think we are more talented in areas than last year (T, CB) and less in others (WR). I enjoy rooting for young players trying to make it vs declining vets.

Take a look at the projected roster + factor in post June 1st cuts have been a mirage for a decade. Outside of a vet S... the annual veteran "big" safety who is always brought in then cut... and maybe a one-dimensional speedster at WR (cue CPAPerson), who would you bring in to take snaps away from those under contract?

DE and DT are already overmanned.

Bump just for Pager.

This was slated to be a rough off-season for sure, and was made more problematic with Diggs leaving
I think as of right now this is probably a 9 and 7 or 10 and 6 type team with enough talent to compete
Should have enough talent to compete for a wild card or NFC North title
We need a couple of these rookies to shine for sure
There is a fair amount riding on them for sure
Let’s remember though Rhodes was freaking terrible, so hard to not upgrade
I’m hopeful with Kubiak more hands on he can get this line and Cousins more in synch
I wouldn’t pencil in San Fran just yet. They were not that far off from Chicago 2 years ago. Garrapalo did not look good and will have to raise his play
KC has Mahomes which we will just never have in the near future

I actually am really impressed by the pass blocking rating of our 6th round Tackle....PAC 10 throws the ball....always happy to get a tackle with the best pass blocking grade.

I also think people forget how far Wanes dropped off along with Rhodes....the worst part of both is their ball skills. Hopefully Dantzler, Gladney, Hand, Marcellus, etc. are great at Int, Pass Def, etc. This was always a weakness of Rhodes/Waynes. If you factor in the decline of Joseph and Griffen....I am excited with Pierce, Lynch, and the two DE we drafted. I am most worried about our backup QB and RB depth. I think that they have addressed OT with Cleveland and Mandell.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/26/2020 5:32:59 PM)

So we're going with our starters + our backups + free agents already signed + a draft class with too many players to count + PS guys we may bring up + apparently more wonderful vets other teams magically cut and we sign for cheap for at least six positions!

OK then, pencil 'em in!

Bill Johanesen -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/26/2020 5:41:12 PM)

This used to be where JC came in and demanded we somehow sign x, y, and z or accept mediocrity. At least he's here in spirit with all the vets a few people want to bring in.

Ironically, these vets are cheap enough for us to handle cap wise yet so good they will rob playing time from the very players Happy Norse is flagging for low snap counts.

Outside of anomalies or rare trades, there are not three legs to off-season acquisitions. It is just free agency and then the draft.

[&:] Fair enough. I'm actually working on a school paper, def not good at multi-tasking.

I would "revise" my statement to say I think we have enough guard experience on the roster with Dozier, Jones, and Elf to not need to sign anyone. There has been talk of bringing Kline back. Be interesting. I would say that goes for DT with Pierce and JJ and Stephen. Not sure there are upgrades out there at this point of time. DE and CB being the exceptions right now.

O finds simplistic logic flaws and has to point them out. He also zeroes in on basic grammatical issues that invoke multiple meanings. Stuff worth ignoring. Although today I took to correct someone calling "ONeil" as the LB drafted before Matt Blair. First rounder Fred McNeill.

Unrelated to my call out is this: https://www.cnn.com/2016/02/04/health/fred-mcneill-cte-football-player/index.html

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/26/2020 6:48:36 PM)

In the five years that Brad Childress had control of the 53-man roster, the Vikings never had more than 8 picks in the 7-round draft. In the nine years since Rick Spielman has been GM, the Vikings have never had fewer than 8 picks and six times have had 10 or more selections.

I know the logic but with the decline of Griffen, Waynes, Rhodes, and Joseph...the only vet I would have kept was Mac. We had to get some new blood in there. Probably a year behind getting rid of either Waynes or Rhodes. I think Pierce will replace Joseph very nicely. I think Stephen will lose snaps to Lynch, Odin, and Watts. In fact I don't think Stephen makes the team.

Love this tweet by Courtney Cronin.

The way the board has fallen has been nothing shy of a miracle for Minnesota. They've gotten all the guys they've wanted without having to trade up. Lot of the draft is luck, and the Vikings are beneficiaries of how players have come off the board before them.
