Unless we pick up a free agent nose tackle, the way I see it, Johnson should start and Stephen should backup him at that position. Watts makes the most sense to start at 3 tech. On passing downs, Odenigbo can move inside next to Watts with Barr and Hunter rushing the passer from the outside. That's what I would do, but you know I always like to see rotations along the defensive line.

the one positive out of this is that we can shake out our dt's and see what the younger players can bring...next season we'll know who the players are - and we'll have pierce...hopefully....

I just can't see getting too much from rookies with such an abbreviated off-season. No preseason games now. Sigh.

For what it's worth, when I was in the ventilator I had a clear dream that the Vikings began the season with three victories.

Bruce...don't forget about James Lynch. I think he is going to be a stud.!

I hope so, but I am not holding high hopes for rookies not taken in the first round to get significant playing time this season, especially as the season begins.

I bet when you look back it's not going to be nearly as dramatic as you thought it would be - just my opinion; we'll see I guess (hopefully)

Coaches will always act like practice time is critical because it justifies their jobs. On the other hand some players are just better than other players. Regarding the rookies it will probably be 6 of one and half dozen of the other.

Matthew Coller seems to agree with you. It seems I often take unpopular points of view.

"I don’t think missing preseason games is a big issue. Only practicing in pads a dozen times could be much more of a hurdle".

And he just added this to me:

"haha sure thing. I'll give you this Bruce: Nobody really knows since it's never happened before".

I wouldn't call it unpopular but it does sound like the second cousin to cliche to me. You're going to be right about a bunch for sure but some of these guys are going to be too good of athletes to not put them out there. Who knows? Each coach is going to have his own philosophy for sure and he's going to do it his way.

For example, Pete Carroll is going to take more chances with the young athlete without much practice time than Zim will.

This season is starting to feel like a waste of time.

With over 2500 players in camps the likely hood of an outbreak is almost certain.

With young incredibly well conditioned athletes so what if there's an outbreak. Just keep them away from those more susceptible to consequences. Has one legit professional athlete died from this or even had severe repercussions? What if one did die. People die. It's part of life. I could die driving to the grocery store. My opinion is we take reasonable precautions and move forward with our lives. I'm willing to take the chance to eat at a restaurant once in a while. I take reasonable precautions. I think it is a very good thing that professional sports are starting up again.

You sure flip flop a lot.

Earlier you said if their a human being and living on this planet they are at risk.
Now, so what if there is an outbreak.

i have yet to read the 'play in one game and a player gets an accrued season' language in the 'pandemic cba'....

"Players considered at greater risk for COVID-19 (those with moderate to severe asthma, sickle cell disease, Type 2 diabetes, for example) can opt out and receive a $350,000 stipend and an accrued NFL season. Players without greater risk, like Duvernay-Tardif, will get a $150,000 stipend, but will not receive an accrued season. The contracts of all individuals who opt out -- no matter the perceived risk -- will toll to next year. After the NFL and NFLPA sign on the dotted line officially implementing all adjustments to the collective bargaining agreement, players will have one week to decide whether or not they're going to opt-out."...Judy Battista, NFL.com

I believe the rule change says if you play 1 game this season you get credit for the season if games are cancelled. Not due to Hold out or opt out.

I haven't read the CBA. I just heard reports that one game played equaled a season accrued. It does seem strange, but it's what I've read in multiple places.

OK Peter Panic. I hope you don't vote.....

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/29/2020 3:55:45 PM)

Ben Goessling@GoesslingStrib
The Vikings placed Ifeadi Odenigbo, Oli Udoh and Cameron Smith on the COVID-19 reserve list. The three players follow Justin Jefferson, Blake Brandel, Brian Cole and Tyler Higby, who landed on the list Monday.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/29/2020 3:56:40 PM)

Please remember that does not automatically mean any of them tested positive:

The COVID-19 reserve list is for players who tested positive or were in close contact with a carrier of the virus. The league does not allow teams to disclose whether players are in the first or second of those two groups.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/29/2020 4:04:34 PM)

How many days in and 10% are off? How many next week?

Just a matter of time before they call off this attempt. Thanks Trump

I wasn't the guy who said human being living on the planet, but I would agree that is true. However, the risk for professional athletes, once you take out the Michael Pierce type health conditions, is incredibly low. That's what all the precautions being taken is about.
As for the about right comment it was said assuming a contract extension was already worked out. Once i found out no extension I changed my opinion.

I've taken reasonable precautions. I haven't got it. Looks like I have the virus under control in my own life. I might be taking a lot more precautions than you Bohumm. I shop with my mask on about once every two weeks, I go out to a restaurant that is following all recommended precautions about once every two weeks. When my nephew came to Arizona from Minnesota I got together with brothers and other nephews to see him. I'm IMO being safe in my choices.

In this entire world there is one person that I actually know and care about who got very sick with this virus. That's our very own Bruce. I didn't have any control over him getting the disease. Do you have any clue how selfish and self centered you sound by stating that “playing the season” is soooo important to getting back to
‘Normalcy’?

Dismissing the domino effect of close player contact, breathing, sweating and bleeding on each other, the close quarter of a huddle, play formation from snap to the blocking and tackling scrum, locker room and plane or bus travel and the virulent nature of this virus, coupled with asymptomatic transmission of infection, to both family members, referees and other non athletic entourage members, such as Coaching staffs, airline crews, hotel crews, food service crews, etc.

Your selfishness, to get your “football “ fix , show a shallowness and lack of critical thinking that borders on embassasing foolishness.

And I am trying real hard, here, to be kind.

Accept the fact that a sport such as football is essentially mass suicide and irresponsible as if you were deliberately sneezing into the salad bar with a common cold at the local buffet.

Wow. "Due to my superior personal control, it hasn't impacted my life. As long as I get to watch football, I don't give a fukk about what happens to NFLers . Or their families. Or the people who work at their grocery stores. Or their doctors, nurses, RTs, etc. I'll just pray for them if they get sick....." And the bolded shows you are not taking more precautions than me.

If you want to hold forth about the virus, at least educate yourself. It takes a lot more than prayer if someone takes a bad turn, and though we know some have elevated risk factors, it's not always known who they are because we don't truly understand this virus. It may be more cardiovascular than anything else, and it may damage organs (minor ones like the lungs and heart, praise God!!!) long-term or even permanently. And yes, young, healthy people have gotten very sick and died. Strength and speed are moot when it comes to fighting off a virus.

I hope you don't call yourself pro-life......

While I think the pro sports is probably good therapy for us schmucks it can also help deliver a strong message to the people in this country as to just how serious this virus is.

What's happening to the Marlins for instance.

I wish everyone could get this rapid testing NFLers are getting. How many people are asymptomatic carriers that don't even know they have it.

I'm all for moving forward taking reasonable precautions which is exactly what I said above. You are just hateful and spiteful toward me as if I have ever done anything to you. I haven't. As for the draft pick signings I personally thought it was kind of interesting. Once they got signed I said good and moved on. IMO it is a very good thing that pro sports are starting up again.

Easy to see why we can't get the virus under any semblance of control in this country.....Carry on Logic Boy!!!!!!

When I found out about that I took action praying for him, getting my church praying for him, getting my friends praying for him, and getting another message board praying for him. He pulled through.

So you would not meet your nephew who traveled 2000 miles to see you. That's your choice. I'm not going to go that far. I will take that risk exercising reasonable precautions. It's mine to take. Do you shop? If so you're taking a risk. Do you have family members in your home? You should all get your individual places to live, don't stay in the same house. Have you been to medical facility since the outbreak? You're taking a risk.

So far our government hasn't seen fit to impose a no football, basketball, baseball, golf, hockey, NASCAR ban. I take it if you were in charge you would impose those bans because of your great love for humanity. I'm glad you're not in charge.

Good points.

It's fine with you if a player dies just so you can get your fix? Just part of life? Shitt like this is why people get so fukking sick of your constant bleating on this platform. Oh, did the rookies all sign eventually? Did you stop crying at that point, or did you just move on to something else to try to divert attention your way?

Bohumm people do die. It does happen. I'm just stating a fact. If one professional athlete dies somewhere in the entire world of professional athletes it's not a good thing, but it's part of life. Is it 8 billion people living on this planet now? So far as I'm aware not one legit professional athlete has died from COVID or even gotten particularly sick. That's out of all the legit professional athletes in the world. They are incredibly low risk. It's certainly possible somebody has, but I'm not aware of it. The high risk athletes like Michael Pierce should opt out IMO. I'm guessing you saw my statement on that, but it didn't fit your wanting to bitch about what I posted. Reasonable Precautions!

There is a balance between living our lives in a bunker and going forward with our lives. It's not about me getting a fix. It's about us moving on with our lives. I'm 61 with diabetes so I'm kind of high risk, but I'm not going to live my life hunkered down in fear. If you want to go ahead. Maybe you hope I catch it and die. I'm not traveling during this pandemic and it's only my wife and me in our house so far. I'm serious about this; we're in a deadly pandemic.

If I were in charge, I wouldn't do these sports right now, though the NBA has a chance to work. I would shut down with a mandated mask and social distancing requirement for the next 6-8 weeks to stop most transmission and institute the defense production act for test kit elements and PPE (gowns, masks, etc.). I would activate a program for testing and transmission tracing throughout the country. Read Andy Slavitt (Minnnesotan, BTW) among others about the rationale for all of this. We blew it in the spring, and we'll probably have to do it sometime.
