Before Sunday, every defensive player projected to start for the Vikings had been drafted by them or signed as an undrafted college free agent.

I keep hearing about somebody named Beaker today. I must have missed something. I don't have a clue who Beaker is? After you tell me I'll get all sheepish I'm sure.

Some of them call Cousins Beaker on the DN thread.

Thanks, but he's only getting $20 million next year?

It being a young man's game and all, I feel like Rick has managed the off season pretty well. Time will tell of course.

Defense

Key losses:

Linval Joseph, age 31.8, PFF 71.2, cap hit $5.5 million
Everson Griffen, age 32.6, PFF 77.6, cap hit $6 million
Xavier Rhodes, age 30.1, PFF 46.4, cap hit $3.25 million
Trae Waynes, age 28.0, PFF 65.1, cap hit $10 million
Mackensie Alexander, age 26.7, PFF 65.7, cap hit $3.95 million

New additions:

Yannick Ngakoue, age 25.4, PFF 72.0, cap hit ~$13 million
Cameron Dantzler, age 21.9, cap hit $0.83 million
Jeff Gladney, age 23.7, cap hit $2 million

More playing time:

Mike Hughes, age 23.5, PFF 58.7, cap hit $1.79 million
Holton Hill, age 23.4, PFF 63.7, cap hit $0.49 million

And Pierce is 27.

I don't consider Rhodes and Waynes to be key losses. They're more addition by subtraction, IMO.

After reading a few pages, apparently THE best and most non-offensive form of protest the nation can undertake is we all wear t-shirts that say equality for everybody.

Kneeling in silence is too offensive.

People have the right to choose whether or not they want to participate in change. They will either see the merits of the movement, or they will not. I can only imagine if this conversation were happening 50 years ago, you'd have far more opposition to the movement than we do in 2020. The times are changing. You can either get on board with the movement, or continue to be one of "those people". We all know them. They sit around and pontificate from the couch about the old times, bitching and moaning about the younger generation. They have all the answers, despite rarely escaping their own little bubble of life.

For myself, I choose not to be one of "those people". I've been fortunate. I have had built-in, systematic advantages. I have seized some of those opportunities and built a decent life for myself. At some point I recognized my fortunes and realized others have not had those built-in advantages and thus do not have the same opportunities. I can't pinpoint the day or decade, but it happened. For others, it never happens.

Today it is Colin Kaepernick and kneeling during the anthem. In 1955 it was Rosa Parks. Tomorrow it will be something else. "Those people" will always exist. And then they die, having lived a hollow existence and passing on their values.

They are the same ones who drive by the people on street-corners begging for money, and then perpetuate the myth around the dinner table that they are somehow getting rich by begging for money at said street-corner. Because of course, what could be more rewarding than having to beg for money at a street-corner, right?

We all know "those people".

Now, I'll just sit back and let them call me a snowflake or tell me to take it to the politics thread. I'm okay with either.

As often referenced, Rhodes allowed 81.5 percent of targets toward him to be completed, gave up 12.0 yards per completion, 9.8 yards per target, and a 123.5 quarterback rating.

My biggest concerns going into the season are interior of both lines and slot CB.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2020 9:16:14 AM)

This was WITH troops around the area mind you. I've wondered does that screaming woman still feel that she was on the right side of history?

Guess Ruby Bridges walking to class was an affront and a symbol of unacceptable progress because it "offended" some people.

Comparing that to disrespecting our Nation, Flag and Anthem. Really??????????

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2020 9:28:53 AM)

Patterson has his work cut out for him. The current problem with our DL will be against the run. On paper we're really bad and Ngakoue appears to be a one dimensional DE. had Pierce chose to play we'd be in much better shape.

Ngakoue
Unfortunately — despite high tackle-for-loss totals — his defense against the run isn’t at the level we’ve come to expect from Zimmer defensive ends. He either tends to make the play in the backfield or get washed completely out of the play, often overpursuing or getting blocked out of his assignment. He also has missed more than his fair share of tackles, generating the ninth-most missed tackles per attempt in the running game of the 102 edge defenders with at least 100 run snaps in 2019, per PFF. He missed roughly one out of every five tackle attempts in the run game.

This is the America Trump desires when he states make America great again. Or maybe he's referring to pre civil war when you could own slaves.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2020 9:32:09 AM)

Kneeling during the anthem is not disrespecting flag or nation. It is the exorcise of peaceful free speech, which is the epitome of American rights. People fought and died to guarantee that right. How dare you condemn people for exorcising it.

I also recall people saying Muhammad Ali was un-American. He was also right in standing up to the status quo and later lit the flame at the Olympics.

Or Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

So "HOW DARE" people here use our peaceful free speech to share our opinions?

Hypocrisy much?

Plus, these people are employees. Most people cannot go into your work and wear a highly political shirt or pin or whatever. They are employees, not protesters. They can protest or wear political shirts literally every day of the year, but they have to wear their uniforms and play football on Sunday at Noon. And if the NFL wanted to, they could require they stand for the Anthem or not choose to be present.

There is no First Amendment right to protest at your workplace. You can strike and protest outside if you would like but you will not get paid.

If the players decide to strike, everyone will lose. During the strike of 1987, attendance was under 10,000 for many games and television revenue dropped 20%. That's why the owners will join hands this year in support of the movement. The players now have a lot more power than they did 30 years ago.

You mean like you criticizing my free speech on the forum right there? Hypocrisy much.

I never questioned his right to say something ridiculous. Even state it as if it were a fact. I merely expressed what I thought of it.

True. The right wing always needs minorities to fear and hate.

unome -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2020 10:02:16 AM)

The funny thing about all of this is that there is such an easy solution. There are no fans in the seats and if they do not show the Anthem on TV, no one even knows what did or did not happen.

If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound? OK, it does, but no one hears it.

Heck, you can show Anthems played last year with people standing if you really wanted to. Fake Anthem standing to go with fake crowd noise.

I just heard Nacho Leber say the he thinks the Vikes should go after Leonard Fournette? I think that rb is the least of our worries! We have two very good backs and C.J.

C'Mon, Bill. I'm "right wing" or conservative and I hate nobody. Even my wife is a minority. Stop the generalizations, please. That's why people don't listen to each other. Respectful dialogue is way more productive than name calling. I respect your opinion, but the grouping everyone into one big net isn't really fair.
