IMO, he has all the leverage. Are you really going to (as a team) try and play hard ball with a 26 YO entering the prime of his career and coming off back-to-back 14.5 sack seasons? Someone will pay him. There's not question about that.

He is under contract through 2023. I don't really see how he has all of the leverage.

Is there any legit info that he is unhappy with his contract?

I haven't seen any.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/12/2020 10:21:17 AM)

He can hold out and then what? Realistically, I mean. If he refuses to play under his deal to you just let him sit to say "screw you" or do you trade him to the Cowboys and he gets his wish?

BTW- what Mark asked. I haven't seen anything "official" that he's unhappy but, quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/12/2020 10:59:26 AM)

Coming off an injury, a contract for several more years, and a likely cut to the salary cap because of no fans = he has no leverage.

He will need to play and prove he is still damn good before he has any cards to play.

It would be stupid of the Vikings to do anything with him until he proves he can play.

I thought he will coming off a season where he did not play at all and mid-season had surgery to hopefully fix a career threatening neck/spine issue?

Plus he is already under contract to us thru 2023, so who is going to pay him?

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/12/2020 4:27:11 PM)

Perhaps this is partially due to the extra day for practice this week.

The Bears had a whopping TEN players that were listed as DNPs in today's practice.

RB David Montgomery
TE Jimmy Graham (rest)
TE Cole Kmet
OL Jason Spriggs
OL Sam Mustipher
DT Akiem Hicks (rest)
DT John Jenkins
EDGE Barkevious Mingo
LB Danny Trevathan (rest)
CB Sherrick McManis

#Vikings list Irv Smith Jr. as having a groin injury, which kept him out of practice after Smith missed the end of Sunday's game.

(Sam Ekstrom on Twitter)

I guess he hurt his groin from his celebration. Maybe he needs to find a different way to celebrate.

Crud. He is starting to show that he's a real threat for us. Hope he gets fixed up before the game!

Hand the football to the ref and act like you've been there before.

Something to keep in mind when it comes to the Eric Wilson vs. Anthony Barr debate for 2021:

Wilson leads the #Vikings with 11 missed tackles in eight games, per PFF (no one else has more than 5).

Barr? Just 16 missed tackles in 44 games since 2017.

Vikings should win...but it's the Bears so likely throw that out the window.

Good news is Wilson is visible on the play, versus the ghost.

You have to be in on the play in the first place to miss a tackle.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 1:44:19 PM)

Kirk Cousins has won 17 of his 20 games (85%) as a #Vikings QB in which over 25% of his drop backs that game have involved play action

He has won only 5 of his 21 games (24%) as a Vikings QB in which 25% or less of his drop backs have involved play action

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 1:45:22 PM)

D.J. Wonnum's ten pressures rank second among all rookie edge defenders behind only Chase Young. Still a very long ways to go as a player, but at the very least he looks the part with his long arms and explosive get off. Has the potential to be a good starter down the road.

Pressures given up by the offensive line

Vikings Bears

6 LT 30
15 LG 24
6 C 27
26 RG 18
13 RT 16

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 1:52:43 PM)

Tyler Conklin I believe is still the Vikings best blocking tight end. Hoping Irv is healthy, but it’ll be good to see Conklin get increased snaps against a solid run defense.

(DeShawn Vaughan)

Speaking on the possibility of Irv Smith Jr. misses action due to his injury.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 1:53:33 PM)

The matchup of Johnson vs Jefferson is going to be a good one.

The rookie has hasn’t given up over 50 yards of receiving since the facing the panthers week 6, but I think Jefferson’s quickness will get the best of him like DJ Moore’s did.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 1:54:48 PM)

I think offensive line is by far the hardest position to project future talent. We thought Bradbury was gonna be average and after just a year in the league he is a top ten center in the NFL.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 2:02:29 PM)

#Vikings Defensive Rankings (Week 10)

Total Defense: 29th (412 YPG)
Pass Defense: 30th (287 YPG)
Rush Defense: 20th
Pass Rush Efficiency: 17th

PRE has dropped 5 spots since the Ngakoue trade.

Chicago Bears Defensive Rankings

Total Defense: 9th
Pass Defense: 7th
Rush Defense: 14th
Pass Rush Efficiency: 10th

When was the last time our OL played well IN Chicago? Can't think of a game, actually.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 2:05:32 PM)

#Vikings Offensive Rankings (Week 10)

Total Offense: 10th (!!!)
Passing: 25th
Rushing: 3rd (160 YPG)
Pass Protection: 25th

Minnesota's offense has come a LONG way in the last four games.

Chicago Bears Offensive Rankings

Total Offense: 29th (317 YPG)
Passing: 20th
Rushing: LAST (82 YPG)
Pass Protection: 17th

Chicago's run game takes an even bigger hit if David Montgomery can't go this week.

(Purple Post)

What stands out to me here is that the Vikings rushing game is third and the Bears are last. The Bears rushing defense is actually not as good as their passing defense. I don't know how the Bears will adjust for this game. If our best run blocking TE gets extra reps this game, it looks like really the Vikings have to push the run, but I guess you always have to look at how the Bears are defending.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/13/2020 2:32:14 PM)

If Montgomery is indeed out for the upcoming game, that could be huge because Tarik Cohen is also out. The next RB on the Bear's depth chart is, cough, Cordarelle Patterson. As you all know, Patterson is not a true running back, but more of a gimmick running back. The next RB on the list is Ryan Nall. You say Ryan who? Nall was an undrafted free agent, but so was Mike Boone. He seems to be a bigger physical back with some deceptive speed. I have no idea if he can block or catch passes. He has practically not played at all too. Hopefully he makes lots of mistakes Monday. But here's an article that says the guy has talent. On the other hand, all players in the NFL have talent or they wouldn't be on the roster.
