So injuries significantly shortened or hampered three out of three NFL seasons. If I did the math correctly, that is 100%. KG, shouldn't that be a concern?

Pre-injury, 10 Games: 203 Carries (20/Game), 991 yards, 4.9 YPC.

Post-injury, 6 Games: 84 Carries (14/Game), 256 yards, 3.0 YPC.

He also only had 9 carries in 3 of the 6 post-injury games.

You could make the case that he is one of those guys who has to be completely healthy to perform.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/1/2020 1:38:50 PM)

I like Cook a lot, But there is a definite availability concern.

He should definitely not be paid like McCaffrey. And there should be significant money tied to amount of play.

McCaffrey: 3 years, 48 games, 926 touches, 5443 yards from scrimmage, 39 TDs.
Cook: 3 years, 29 games, 561 touches, 3018 yards from scrimmage, 19 TDs.

What about resigning Griffen ? His number is still available [:)]

we will sign him - $5m/1yr - they're saving his number for a reason....

IMO that would be a bargain. Can we do that and hold on to Harris?

we can always rework smith...cut Stephen and/or elflien....

harris is in a tough spot...he'll be 29 by the time the season starts - these next three years are everything to him in terms of money that he's going to make as a pro football player....

The Vikings should be the ones paying him. Make him a reasonable offer. If he can't accept a reasonable offer than keep him on the franchise tag this year and let him go next year.

i agree, something like; $40m/4yrs, $15m signing bonus, $25m guaranteed....

I would do that deal, but I think there is almost no chance Cook does. McCaffrey's and Zeke's deals are just for so much more and I doubt Cook thinks he is that much less valuable of a RB than they are, although arguably he is. I think we will sign him and it will be for a fair amount of money more than this and it will be a mistake just like Peterson's huge deal was.

that was a deal for harris, not cook - i would not give cook that deal....

Those numbers are pretty eye-opening. Pre-injury is elite and post-injury is street free agent level.

I got you. I would do that deal for Harris as well. I would also give it to Cook, but I am not sure that matters as I would doubt he would take it.

I would hope to re-sign Harris to a deal like the one you proposed and then let Cook play out the year. If things go really well and he stays healthy and puts up big numbers, we can franchise him and then we could either re-sign him, keep him for a year under the franchise tender or, probably my preference, trade him.

Funny thing is the whole world almost is thinking like you so how could we trade him. Cook might have to suck it up and accept $10 million AAV or less.

The #Jaguars are declining the fifth-year option on RB Leonard Fournette, source said.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/1/2020 5:55:25 PM)

Fournette career stats (3 years)

Carries 666
Yards 2,631
YPC 4.0
TD's 17

1009 yds rec

pedestrian for a top 5 pick

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/1/2020 6:00:42 PM)

I would not pay Cook on a new contract. I have been saying and thinking that football is a young man's game. A running back is easy to replace and the young replacement will probably be better than the veteran going forward. It's cold, but the only way I could be persuaded is if the player is willing to have a modest contract, but even then I hesitate because he's not going to be happy. I don't want unhappy players.

Looked like the next big thing as a rookie, then missed half his 2nd season and was just OK his 3rd year.

RB is a dangerous position to spend significant resources on. Even most of the better ones tend to have short shelf lives and a lot of volatility.

Look at David Johnson. Ridiculous 2nd season in 2016. 1200 rushing yards, 16 rushing TDs. Almost 900 receiving yards and 4 more TDs.

His next 3 years didn't match those numbers combined.

Few nuggets from Gary Kubiak on the latest Minnesota Vikings Podcast:

• They'll move Justin Jefferson around, including at X
• "We lost Josh [Kline] …we'll see how all that pans out."
• First player he mentions at guard competition is Aviante Collins

(Nick Olson on Twitter)

Blowing smoke.

More questions than answers, right now. It's only been a week since the draft and the football writers are soon going to go on vacation. We'll try to keep it going here, but it's going to slow down a lot soon.

Paul Charchian said that last year was the worst year for rookies in fantasy football, but this year may be the best. I'm not sure how he sees Jefferson. After Jefferson, the Vikings selected an offensive lineman and defensive players until the fifth round (Osborn) and I think he was the only other player with a fantasy football possibility.

Just did an ESPN fantasy football draft. Got Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the 5th. IMO no way Williams holds him off and I got a huge steal. Total homer draft for me. Got Thielen, Jefferson, Cousins, Vikings D and Bailey. I had pick 6 Kamara and Cook went 4th. Go Vikings.

CHI declines 5th year option on Trubisky.

Not surprising. Holy moly what a waste of draft capital.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/2/2020 6:12:53 PM)

It looks like Cousins does better with edge pressure than interior pressure. Moral of the story would have to be it's a priority to fix the guard and center issues.

Which Viking non-QB is the oldest ever to score a TD and how old was he?

I was thinking of Terrance Newman and then Bill Brown, but it was Cris Carter according to Baker. I also checked Paul Krause and Jim Marshall. My hunch initially, like you, was that it would be a defensive player. I believe Bill Brown was second. He was within days of being first.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/3/2020 9:29:55 AM)

We're getting younger on defense. Harrison Smith is the only player over 30. Shamar Stephen is 29. I don't know if he survives the cuts. Maybe. Then after that there are several at 28. I don't know what the average is, but on defense we must be one of the youngest in the league.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/3/2020 9:40:37 AM)

In 2017 we were 20th in age for the team overall and the year before that we were 31st. Last year we were 6th, but only a few months away from being the youngest. The Vikings will definitely be younger this upcoming season with 15 draft picks and several promising UFA's. We'll have to see how it all shakes out. Pierce is much younger than Linval and Everson is gone. (We'll see if that is permanent. There's still a chance he may return.) Rhodes is gone, too. One good thing about getting younger is that it helps with the salary cap. I keep harping about this, but the cap number may actually get lower next year. The Vikings may be one the best in the league at taking advantage of that. What's amazing is that we were struggling to make the cap just a short time ago, but I don't know if there will be more free agent signings still. I for one am happy we didn't sign Williams. He would have messed with this trend, but I do believe it's more important to be young on defense than on offense.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/3/2020 10:05:08 AM)

Mattison, not Cook, seems to be the guy you want in there when you need to run the ball down the defense's throat.
