From Day 1 , I'm like, "how can you stand there and checkout people one-after-another for 8 hours" - unreal!

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/25/2020 5:11:19 PM)

Mike Zimmer said today that RB Dalvin Cook has told him he will report to #Vikings training camp on Tuesday

(Viking Age on Twitter)

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/25/2020 5:32:24 PM)

A correction of what I said yesterday. The Vikings might have to cut down to 80 by Tuesday. They have a choice.

The problem with Cook is the Vikings are going to offer him a fair contract, but he has painted himself into a corner with all his talk about being the best RB in the NFL and expecting to get paid as such. He won't be able to accept less than 12 million a year and save face. The Vikings I doubt will offer that much.

Justin Jefferson's high school 40 time was 4.88. How did he go from mediocre HS player to college superstar. This video examines that.

I wonder if I'd let my ego get the best of me I ever became the best at something? ... you know, coming from rural America, humble beginnings and all.

- I do wonder what paying state taxes do to some negations? You never hear about it but I'll bet those agents are like, "Well if you go here you'll end up paying 15% more in taxes than if you go there."

Home games only. When visiting other states they pay whatever that state's rate is (if anything). Visiting players pay MN tax when they play here. I'm sure it's still a factor but not quite to the degree that it looks like initially.

Yep, I should of mentioned I get that. I have wondered about it but one would never know - I'm probably one of the few who'd try to figure it out.

- I hope you are doing well, DF.

The end difference probably isn't more than 3-4% for the most extreme case. The fact that you pay the state tax for whatever state you are playing in, probably cuts the difference between any 2 states nearly in half. Plus the states with no income tax make up a lot of that via every other tax available to them. Their state/local governments still have to operate.

“I got my social security number” 😂😂 boy them taxes do hurt.

I can relate.

My last check at work was a buy-out check due to my retirement. The gross amount was $23,738.40. My net was $14,457.93. Federal deduction $6,034.48

I said to my business manger, "I thought you said it was going to get worse when a democrat took office? I didn't think we elected one yet." He said it'll be another thousand when we do. ;)

Seriously, I knew what the gross amount was going to be since February but boy was it a buzz kill to see the net last week.

Bet it's bigger than my buyout check when I retire.

It's the biggest one by far they ever gave out. They were trying to get a few old ladies to retire, too, so they offered 3 times what they ever had in the past. Funny thing they still didn't get these ladies to retire. I benefited big time - or the Fed. Gov't did.

Lawd have mercy, I can't even being to think what it's going to be like going back this year.

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/26/2020 4:04:52 AM)

Conflicting reports regarding Dalvin Cook.
First Zimmer says Dalvin told him he would report on time. Then his agent issued a denial. Then the Vikings RB coach Kennedy Polamalu said Dalvin told him he would report on time. Then his agent said he didn't.
IF Dalvin does not report on Day one he loses his right to become a Free Agent next year. Now in the goofy rules he has to report to camp on time and play one game to retain his FA status for next year so the only move that makes sense is to report and either hold out starting game one or play game one and then hold out.
My best guess is his agent wanted Dalvin to lie about reporting on time and Dalvin didn't get that. This is the latest Report from RotoWorld

DALVIN COOK
RB, MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Dalvin Cook's agent refuted a report that he was planning to report to training camp on time for the second time in three hours on Saturday evening.
This time, Cook's rep was denying RBs coach Kennedy Polamalu hearsay passed along by an NFL Network reporter. “Dalvin and coach Polamalu speak often as they have a great relationship," Cook's rep began. "Dalvin has never mentioned to him anything in regards to reporting to camp. I’m not sure where the miscommunication is. I hope Dalvin plays a major role in the Vikings future success.” At this point, there is little left to do but sit back and wait for report No. 5. Vikings camp begins on Tuesday. We aren't any closer to knowing if Cook will be there.

i agree with this - cooks 'media ego' could very well get in the way of him signing a fair deal....

the media is calling for a holdout or a derrick henry deal - henry played four years - had two 1k+ yard seasons and 3,800 rushing yards total...played in 64 games over those four years...and, he had a huge year in 2019....

dalvin's career is not equivalent to derrick henry's...played three years, one 1k yard season where he completely faded the second half...played in only 29 games gaining 2,100 yards rushing...cook has had more success receiving than henry, but defenses are going to be more focused on stopping this....

regarding a hold out: if cook shows up for the first day of training camp he won't lose his accrued year standing, but what happens after the first day of camp?...if he goes through training camp and then disappears for 12 reg season games, only to show up for the final six games he gets his accrued season....is this still true? - i believe that there is some new language in the 'pandemic cba' that allows him to ditch the team and get his accrued year - perhaps it's in the 'opt-out' language, i don't know....

Really good points. Some cred should go to Cousins. When he was a free agent he could have gotten more elsewhere in salary and possibly less in taxes too. He came here because he wanted to win a championship.

I also think that a running back on his rookie contract is actually a better player than one who is making the big bucks now. I used to be on the other side of this issue, but I've been persuaded to believe it's better to reload.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/26/2020 5:59:11 AM)

Jamal Adams has played in 46 career games.

Harrison Smith v. Jamal Adams,
first 46 games of career:

Smith:
291 Tackles
11 INT
5 Sacks
12 Tackles for Loss
10 QB Hits
3 Forced Fumbles
3 TD

Adams:
273 Tackles
2 INT
12 Sacks
28 Tackles for Loss
23 QB Hits
6 Forced Fumbles
2 TD

(Dustin Baker on Twitter)

There are two safeties and usually one plays closer to the line of scrimmage and the other supports the secondary vs. the pass. Smith seems to be more versatile (ie. unpredictable) in that he could be everywhere and he does everything at a high level.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/26/2020 6:06:23 AM)

Harrison Smith is criminally under-rated.
