He's just never been caught.

leigh steinberg said during an interview once that the rookies tell him that the biggest shock during their first couple of months in the nfl was how small their after-tax paychecks were....

Cody Ford@Cody_Ford74
“I got my social security number” 😂😂 boy them taxes do hurt.

I can relate.

My last check at work was a buy-out check due to my retirement. The gross amount was $23,738.40. My net was $14,457.93. Federal deduction $6,034.48

I said to my business manger, "I thought you said it was going to get worse when a democrat took office? I didn't think we elected one yet." He said it'll be another thousand when we do. ;)

Seriously, I knew what the gross amount was going to be since February but boy was it a buzz kill to see the net last week.

Bet it's bigger than my buyout check when I retire.

It's the biggest one by far they ever gave out. They were trying to get a few old ladies to retire, too, so they offered 3 times what they ever had in the past. Funny thing they still didn't get these ladies to retire. I benefited big time - or the Fed. Gov't did.

Lawd have mercy, I can't even being to think what it's going to be like going back this year.

Where you going back to? [sm=scratch.gif]

Oh no! I retired asap.

I recently got a Class A with endorsements. I can drive if I want - if I can get someone to hire me without experience. I can sub, coach, drive bus if I want. I'll stay busy enough being officially retired.

Mike Zimmer said today that RB Dalvin Cook has told him he will report to #Vikings training camp on Tuesday

(Viking Age on Twitter)

Sure, and I'll bet he reports to the first game, too! [;)]

The problem with Cook is the Vikings are going to offer him a fair contract, but he has painted himself into a corner with all his talk about being the best RB in the NFL and expecting to get paid as such. He won't be able to accept less than 12 million a year and save face. The Vikings I doubt will offer that much.

i agree with this - cooks 'media ego' could very well get in the way of him signing a fair deal....

the media is calling for a holdout or a derrick henry deal - henry played four years - had two 1k+ yard seasons and 3,800 rushing yards total...played in 64 games over those four years...and, he had a huge year in 2019....

dalvin's career is not equivalent to derrick henry's...played three years, one 1k yard season where he completely faded the second half...played in only 29 games gaining 2,100 yards rushing...cook has had more success receiving than henry, but defenses are going to be more focused on stopping this....

regarding a hold out: if cook shows up for the first day of training camp he won't lose his accrued year standing, but what happens after the first day of camp?...if he goes through training camp and then disappears for 12 reg season games, only to show up for the final six games he gets his accrued season....is this still true? - i believe that there is some new language in the 'pandemic cba' that allows him to ditch the team and get his accrued year - perhaps it's in the 'opt-out' language, i don't know....

I think he has to complete Training camp and play one game to get his accrued season.

we're probably the only team that is going to get completely screwed by that language....

should we consider a sign and trade deal if cook is going to hold out after one game?...actually, this could be the only way out...we let his agent talk to teams about a trade and they'll see what his contract value is...i'm confident that it's south of $10m....

I think it would be very eye opening for Cook to find out what his value is around the league. $10 million is the most any team would pay him and less if they have to give up any significant asset.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/26/2020 1:51:18 PM)

There has been some discussion about the language regarding one game equaling an accrued season.

I think someone on the DN site ran with this interpretation while others don't think this is true.

Trae Waynes who is a neutral player is making $14 Million. I have no problem with paying Cook 10. His injury history is just that a history. It has no bearing on the future. Regardless of what you or I would pay him I believe the Vikings would pay him $10 million per year. Will Cook accept it?

Trae Waynes can be replaced with any Tom, Dick or Harry. (Michael, Holton, Jeff, Cameron) and nobody is going to know the difference. Replace Cook with Alexander and I'm pretty sure they will know the difference.

Once again Bruce what you or I would pay Cook is not relevant. What the Vikings would pay and what Cook would accept is relevant. I'm virtually certain the Vikings will offer $10 million per year over 4 years if they haven't already. I don't know if Cook will be foolish enough to turn that down. If he does he will end up with massive regret. I would expect Cook to be better over the next 5 years than he has been his first three. Time will tell.

Trae Waynes who is a neutral player is making $14 Million. I have no problem with paying Cook 10. His injury history is just that a history. It has no bearing on the future. Regardless of what you or I would pay him I believe the Vikings would pay him $10 million per year. Will Cook accept it?

Remember that the salary cap will be reduced next season. Also, the prime of a running back is in his rookie contract- not for a CB.

I was wrong about Kyle Rudolf, so maybe I will be wrong about Cook.

The new NFL-NFLPA agreement addresses that issue in fairly straight-forward fashion. In particular, the following activities are banned:

-Attending indoor nightclubs
-Attending indoor bars (except to pickup food)
-Attending indoor house parties with more than 15 people
-Attending indoor concerts
-Attending professional sporting events
-Attending indoor church services that allow attendance of more than 25% of capacity

Players that violate the rules can be fined. Moreover, players that violate these rules and contract the virus will not be paid for the games they miss, and all future guarantees in their contract will be voided.

daily norseman....

There has been a bit of speculation as to how the rosters for all 32 NFL teams would look before Training Camps officially got underway. There had been rumors circulating that teams might end up only being able to bring 80 players to camp, and while that isn’t the hard and fast rule, it is an option for everyone.

The league has told teams that they have two options for their pre-camp rosters, and those are spelled out in a letter that went out to the teams on Saturday. Here’s a breakdown of the two options.

Option 1 says that on or before the mandatory reporting date for veterans (which for the Minnesota Vikings is this Tuesday, 28 July), teams can reduce the number of players on their active list to 80. If a team selects this option, they will not have to observe any sort of “split-squad” practice procedures. All 80 players can be in the facility at the same time throughout camp.

Option 2 says that a team can bring as many as 90 players on their active roster to Training Camp. If a team elects this option, they must reduce their roster to 80 by 16 August. In addition, if a team follows this rule, their roster must be broken up into two groups:

Group 1 consists of rookies and first-year players and, at the club’s discretion, may include some or all of the quarterbacks and injured players that were to report to camp on 23 July. If a player is assigned to Group 1, they must stay with Group 1 until the roster reduction to 80 players on 16 August.
Group 2 consists of the rest of the roster. The two groups have to remain separate at all times. A team may, at any time, elect to reduce their active roster to 80 and have all of their players in the same place at the same time.
You can read the full letter in this tweet by Albert Breer of NBC Sports.

As harsh as it might sound, I’m not sure why a team would take Option 2 at this point. If you can have an opportunity to have all of your players together all the time during practice, I would think that you would take it. I understand it means cutting some players before they get a chance to show you anything, but with things being what they are, I would have to think that coaches would be happier with Option 1 than they would be with having to keep two groups of players separated for three weeks.

(Now watch as the majority of teams take Option 2.)

As we’ve stated a few times already, the Vikings’ roster currently sits at 87 players, so if they do decide to go with Option 1, they’ll have to cut seven players at some point between now and Tuesday. If that happens, we’ll let you know who it is.

Eight more players and two coaches with the Miami Marlins have tested positive for COVID-19, as an outbreak has spread throughout their clubhouse and brought the total of cases in recent days to at least 14, sources familiar with the situation tell me....joe blow

I think you do option 2 while the reporting/testing phase is going on at a minimum. If you want, you cut down to 80 as soon as the actual legit practices are taking place with the main team; that way you get a couple of extra days to look at all the youngsters and anyone else who reported last week and has cleared testing.

Hopefully this isn't a preview of the NFL season, but more guys with much closer contact doesn't portend well. Peter King and some here taking about how pristine the Vikings facility is....better than not, but the virus is airborne and transmits readily.

Because it's always that 16th person at the house party that causes the trouble......

I think its a preview for ALL the sports trying to restart. MLB is 2 games in and already hosed:

The future of the shortened 2020 MLB season is already under threat, and it’s been one weekend. On Monday the league cancelled the Miami Marlins’ scheduled home opener against the Baltimore Orioles after the sources revealed the Marlins had 10 more positive Covid-19 tests inside the organization, adding to the four who already tested positive ahead of the team’s series against the Phillies.

There were already signs of a breakout on the Marlins heading into Sunday’s game against the Phillies and the two teams played anyway. Now, there is a giant snowball effect. Not only are there all of these positive cases on the Marlins, but we are awaiting to see how this has affected the Phillies. Plus, as Alex Speier pointed out, this has also put hotel staffers where the Marlins were staying in jeopardy. On top of that, the Yankees are scheduled to head to Philadelphia tonight to start a series. That has been postponed.
