Random draft quote from an experienced top evaluator: “This draft is unprecedented in its sheer number of really good slot WRs.” Last year’s WR class was deep, but more outside guys. This year, it’s top inside guys.

Any of them better than Chad Beebe?

I'm going to guess a large percentage of them.

Phillips is too risky for us.
If Zimmer is banging the table for D,
I wouldn’t be sad with any of Horn, Paye, or Parsons.

He'll get a good going over before the draft. He missed the Indy medical checkup because he had covid.

I'm sure we will have a medical person around when he finally goes through a checkup.

Cade Johnson (South Dakota State) might be a 5th or 6th round guy we could get.

I was listening to a couple podcasts today.

Mixed reviews on Darrisaw.

-All the talent in the world but a very mundane temperament.

-Plays down to his competition and seems disinterested most of the time.

-Yet threw Joseph Ossai around like a rag doll.

Jaycee Horn

-Will rip a wr's face off

-NFL comparison is Jalen Ramsey

Philips or Parsons.

Get Orlando Brown

Get a couple Guards in 4th round

Udoh definitely in mix

Philips is the best pass rusher in this class. But a concussion or two away from retirement.

Hopefully balt softens up their asking price after no takers after day one of the draft.

Ben Cleveland at 242lbs could clear some running lanes.

Washington got a 3rd and a 5th for Trent Williams. Brown shouldn't be worth any more than that.

Ben Cleveland at 242. What is this? The 70's. [8|]

bstinger -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (4/15/2021 9:28:11 AM)

In my mock drafts I targeted a couple of slot guys in the 3rd round.

It looks like their PFF ranks have changed a bit since I spent a lot of time on it, but Jaelon Darden is currently at 84 and Tutu Atwell is 121.

We could really use an upgrade at 3 WR. A quick little slot guy can be dangerous, not only in the pass game but on gadget plays and end arounds.

Again, a lot of needs on this team though. Gladney's behavior certainly created another one.

Interesting to see some of the changes in ranks.

Wyatt Davis, G, OSU fell from the low to mid 30's to 61 currently.

Would love that pick.

You guys are spending a lot of time worrying about a fifth option in the passing game. With two wide receivers, a running back and tight end, the #3 wide receiver should be nothing more than a safety valve. It's been my experience that our quarterback rarely gets two-deep into his progression before he locks in on a guy.

I must have missed our massive TE/RB pass reception production last year.

And who exactly is catching balls behind Thielen/JJ when one of them gets dinged up?

You keep telling everyone it's a passing league... that means you need a productive slot receiver and some WR depth.

This is a good draft for third receivers. We need one. I'm also wondering if any of the top running backs fall to the third round. Check this out. There will be some good ones going in the third.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL Draft 2021 (4/15/2021 10:38:16 AM)

Ben Leber says he likes Paye better than other analysts. Says he's a three down lineman who fires from an unusually low stance. He's got a motor that doesn't quit and he is a very good run stopper.

About Slater, he says that he has good feet, but he questions whether he can hold up to the bull rush. He did say that Slater has been working hard to add lower body strength, though.

A good offense will get 105 catches from it's No. 1 wide receiver, 90 from it's No. 2, 80 from it's tight end and 65-70 from it's top running back. Kirk Cousins has never completed more than 425 passes in any single season, and when the Vikings went 10-5 under Cousins in 2019 he completed 307 in 15 games. Finding a collection of other guys to make 40 catches during the course of a season shouldn't be a tall task. There's a 1,000 guys out there that could fill a No. 3 role.

The key here will be getting our tight end more involved so we can make everyone else more valuable. It's something we haven't been very good at.

The tight end and wide receivers are interchangeable parts in a good offense.

Exactly, after JJ&Theilen we have very little.
If we had Kelce as our TE I'd agree 3rd WR isn't as big of need.
Yes, Irv should produce more... but he may or my not.
You don't have to spend high draft capital... but Tom Brady won a lot of superbowls with clutch guys like Welker/Edelman moving the chains on third down.
You can find those guys on day 3.
Vikes could really use a guy like that.

Kansas City is a good offense. Their 2nd WR had 45 catches.

We need another guy if JJ or Thielen go down.

Kansas City's No. 1 option is their tight end, who had 105 catches last season. Their No. 2 option was Hill, who had 87. The two running backs that started had 49. Hardman and Watkins (2-3 WR's) combined for 78 catches.

The tight end and wide receivers are interchangeable parts in a good offense.

So you are saying that they needed 3 quality WRs.

Define quality. I would define Hardman and Watkins as guys. They have their moments, but have been anything but consistent during their careers. Kelce is great. Hill is great. Their running backs are good.

Beebe and Bisi are not on Hardman and Watkins level. We need an upgrade. I'm not saying spend a 1st Rounder on it but a 4th rounder would be nice.

I'm down with that.

Bateman will most likely be there with one of our 3rd rounders (not sure he'll slide to 90 but it's possible). Guy should have a good/solid NFL career.

Random draft quote from an experienced top evaluator: “This draft is unprecedented in its sheer number of really good slot WRs.” Last year’s WR class was deep, but more outside guys. This year, it’s top inside guys.

Cade Johnson (South Dakota State) might be a 5th or 6th round guy we could get.

Cade looks like a mini Diggs to me... quickness on highlights is amazing.

I think the Vikings have said that Irv Smith is going to be a weapon this season. He was open on every play late in the season against New Orleans. I think the offense is going to cater to him this fall.

Any of them better than Chad Beebe?

Blasphemy. How dare you suggest such a thing.
