... I really wanted to explain why it's very likely that Cousins will get sick, because compared to COVID classic the Delta strain is more transmissible.

If it's during the season (likely), it'll probably cost the team some wins.

I just hope he gets sick in the final two minutes of a half.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/20/2021 4:48:25 PM)

I was prancing along with Marty down a fact-free anti-Cousins path led by Brad and his Zamfir-like pan flute.

There are plenty of facts about Cousins not being good in a 2 minute drill, not being clutch, not good at improvising when a play breaks down, etc...., those facts just make some uncomfortable, and I agree they've been mentioned too much.

Just the elephant in the room.

It's too bad Mond is dealing with WR drops like he did in college, it may be nice someday to see him passing to WRs like Thielen and JJ. And having a RB like Cook to boot, and maybe even an improved OL.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/20/2021 5:58:28 PM)

Cousins had a very good second half last year improvising and picking up first downs with his feet.

Played OG and C in college, is the primary back-up at both RG and LG for Dallas ... hmmm, I'd be interested

If it were any other position, Spielman might be interested also

Teams are eyeing a move for Connor McGovern in a potential trade, but the Cowboys would be reluctant to deal him. They see him as a starter even if he does not open season as one. Mike McCarthy: "He had a tremendous finish as far as his growth as a player throughout last year."

A lot of us were hoping the Vikings would pick him in the 3rd round of the 2019 draft. You might recall he was available when Spielman traded down *4* times, picking up a bunch of late picks, before eventually taking Mattison. Vikes originally had pick 81, McGovern went at pick 90, and Mattison at pick 102. The Vikes next pick? Dru Samia at pick 114 in the 4th round.

But all's well that ends well, as their late round picks that year included Armon Watts and Oli Udoh (as well as Marcus Epps) in the 6th round and Kris Boyd and Bisi Johnson in the 7th.

I agree and hope that he continues his improvement in that area. It would help our offense immensely.
Stating what can obviously be seen with your eyes only confuses people who rely solely on stats though,
so, don't expect to convince the 'I read stats but never really watch many games' crowd.

I'd trade all those guys right now for McGovern... give me a guard to play guard who has proven something.
(and I like Udoh... I think he showed well in the 1 game against Chi where he got some action... but he is still a coin flip as far as working out)

Ditto. Spielman devalues olineman and his half ass approach shows. Our oline is bad year in, year out. The oline has a perennial bottom feeder ranking for a reason. You can't win consistently against good defensive fronts and it really gets exposed if we do happen to back into the playoffs.

McGovern is on the bench behind Connor Williams and someone named Isaac Alarcon. This would be nothing more than a Mason Cole move.

Nonetheless it'd still be an upgrade over dozier/Samia garbage.

Currently LT is a more glaring issue to me. I have zero confidence in Rashad Hill. He's been a joke whenever DC's know he's starting. Reiff should have been retained so Darrisaw had time to settle in. You simply don't gamble on the LT position with a rookie.

Nobody is worse than Dozier.

I'm just saying it would be a depth move. Not an instant above average starter.

Like I said, 6th Rounder for him at the most.

I did look it up. Cowboys gave up 44 sacks and Zeke Elliot had one of his worst years and McGovern can't crack starting lineup.

Maybe the Offensive Tackles were horrible and McGovern can't beat out two great Guards. But I'm guessing he(McGovern) is just average and Cowboys are trying to get something for a guy with some name recognition.

I simply relayed and responded to a tweet … with a quote by the player’s HC.

Which is just short of you talking out of your ass about something, even after looking it up, you seem to know nothing about. Which at least I admitted too.

Its very possible that McCarthy is just selling McGovern or that nobody has actually expressed interest in the player … the tweeter was just making it up …

But it amazes me that given what we have, someone would respond to any possibility with … he probably sucks so why bother, and not, lets check him out and see what they’re asking for …

Okay. I didn't convey my thoughts very clearly.

Here they are.

I would give up a 6th Rounder for a non starter from another team.

I wouldn't give up Udoh, Watts and Boyd. I wouldn't give up Udoh or Watts straight up for him.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2021 11:26:03 AM)

There is still time to evaluate what we have.

Personally, Dozier should be released ASAP.

I don’t know what the cap situation is, but I would offer a straight up trade with Dallas.

What’s to lose, one sucky player for another.

SOP for this management of personnel.

I'd trade all those guys right now for McGovern... give me a guard to play guard who has proven something.
(and I like Udoh... I think he showed well in the 1 game against Chi where he got some action... but he is still a coin flip as far as working out)

McGovern is on the bench behind Connor Williams and someone named Isaac Alarcon. This would be nothing more than a Mason Cole move.

Tell us, how good are Williams and Alarcon? Without looking it up … do you actually know? I don’t. Worse than Dozier last year?

Do you know how good McGovern is? Without looking it up.

Ok. I get it. I should not have made it personal.

My stupid over-reaction is based on this: I don't know what McGovern is worth. If I'm Spielman, I should be able to watch whatever tape there is on the guy to help determine if he's worth trading for and what I think his value is ...

A lot of my frustration is based on wondering whether Spielman even has a handle on our own OLineman.

Played OG and C in college, is the primary back-up at both RG and LG for Dallas ... hmmm, I'd be interested

If it were any other position, Spielman might be interested also

No problem.

Maybe after tonight's game(if it plays out like the Denver game), we will want to send a 4th Rounder for him. [8|]

Who's McGovern again?

I think he ran for Pres about 40 years ago

Cousins had a very good second half last year improvising and picking up first downs with his feet.

[edit]

I agree and hope that he continues his improvement in that area. It would help our offense immensely.
Stating what can obviously be seen with your eyes only confuses people who rely solely on stats though,
so, don't expect to convince the 'I read stats but never really watch many games' crowd.

In other words, the people who are into the NFL strictly for fantasy football.

Edit:
Stupid phone. And failing eyes.
I thought your reply was directed at my post.
