I was hoping the NFL might protect us from ourselves.

If he has a similar or worse 2021, he is well on his way to being a bust, considering where he was taken in the draft.

Herndon has almost identical offensive numbers to Irv Smith over a similar number of career games. Herndon is considered a better blocker than Smith, and Herndon was only a 4th round pick.

The good news is we're gonna have 2 capable TEs if/when Irv Smith comes back. The good news is they can probably be used together or separately, depending on the situation. That is, if Smith plays at all in 2021. The bad news is we had to give up a draft pick to add Herndon because of Irv Smith's continuing injury issues.

But he was pretty healthy last season.

Will Ragatz @WillRagatz Replying to @WillRagatz Worth noting that PFF charged Chisena with as many missed tackles on special teams last year (6) as the rest of the Vikings' roster combined. Still, you can't teach speed, and the Vikings must feel like Chisena has improved both as a gunner and a receiver in his second season.

I know this is the wrong thread but 2018 Alabama roster: 3 starting QBs 2 1sts and a 2nd rounder (Tua, Hurts, Mac) 3 starting RBs two 1st rounders (Jacobs, Najee, Harris) 4 1st round WRs (Jeudy, Ruggs, Waddle, Smith) 4 other 1st rounders (Willis, Leatherwood, Surtain, Q Williams)

Smith was under utilized behind a long established player who was key to the regime's offensive plans (see Rudolph's over-inflated contracts for reference). He might or might not not meet the high expectations that many have for him ... it remains to be seen how good / bad / merely solid type of a starter he is. That will have to wait until he comes back from injury which is nobody's fault.
