So Mike Hughes makes an interception for the Chiefs

Here I thought Rashod Hill would fall apart about week 3

Instead he fell apart after about the 3rd snap

You’re giving him way too much credit for the first 2

Oline a mess.........check

Since the starters didn't play during the preseason, it was hard to figure out what this team was going to look like. It only took one game to give us a good indication of how the year is going to go.

I think we can beat the Lions at home, and maybe beat the Panthers and the Bears on the road, but otherwise this team is sunk. After watching a lot of football today, it's apparent that the next two weeks are going to be particularly brutal as Arizona and Seattle are going to destroy us.

This defense against Murray and Wilson? Yikes!

According to Zimm, they just got to figure out how to play the C-gap. Then everything will come together!

I’m guessing the C-gap is the opening of the tunnel to enter the field…..

Either that or its the area between the dessert bar and the soft serve ice cream machine, Looks like Zimmer has been spending a lot of time figuring that out in the offseason...

IF the Bears lose decidedly, the Vikings could be in 1st place in the division after tonight.

ha ha - yeah, when is the last time you remember in the (Viking) division all teams being 0-1

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 12:02:07 AM)

Alright let’s get to work fixing this heap of garbage. Can’t fire zim and spielman right now so let’s focus on what can be changed. Oh yeah, and by the way cousins gets $45 million next year fully guaranteed so guess what? He’s our QB this year AND next (fire spielman).

Bench Bradbury. He’s terrible. Get Jones or Davis to play center and put the other one at guard. Kick Ezra over to LT until darrisaw is ready and move Hill back to reserve. This should have been done already but as we all know our coaches can’t evaluate talent for anything. They literally don’t know shit from shinola.

Teach kirk game situations like on third and long just chuck one up for grabs and don’t take the sack. An INT is as good as a punt in that situation and by golly our guy might just catch it or maybe we get a cheap penalty. Kirk’s game awareness is astonishingly poor.

Zimmer needs a clock management guy until we can fire him and hire a new coach that didn’t learn coaching in the Civil War. Down 14 in the middle of the 3rd quarter and there was NO URGENCY. Also he needs to drop the red-faced-tough-guy schtick. No one is buying it anymore, in fact it lost its novelty some time ago.

Offensive play calling - earth to Vikings - when something works stick with it. Jefferson down the sideline had a PI that wasn’t called which was unfortunate BUT WE NEVER WENT BACK TO IT. Jefferson medium crossing route had JJ open by three strides. We hit it and gained about 15 yards and THEN NEVER WENT BACK TO IT. Also offensive play callers - stop calling ‘give up’ plays anytime it’s second-and-20 or worse. It’s 2021 and that kind of yardage can be picked up but not with a two yard run or four yard pass.

Defense - mostly good but our zone pass coverage is too passive. Their receivers were wide open- a lot.

Special teams looked great.

Our new punter was our MVP of the game IMO.

Now we wait for coaching to screw him up.[&o]

The punter and kicker seemed good. Don't worry they'll regress. Coaching demands it.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 8:05:31 AM)

Cardinals, Seahawks and Browns on deck. Based upon what I saw yesterday, we are headed towards 0-4 out of the gate.

Good luck at handling Chandler Jones next week. That should be fun.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 8:10:17 AM)

Tony Dungy said the Vikings offense had 12 penalties as an example of a team not playing together much, if at all, in the preseason.

A penalty on the first offensive play of the season! Four in the first drive.

Where is there evidence of preparation? Of focus?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 8:17:43 AM)

At this rate, Zimmer will be on the hottest hot seat by midseason. Wouldn't be surprised if he is fired.

I kept thinking about how only one coach has won a SB after having coached the team for five years.

Yup, I looked up all the Super Bowl winners a couple times to find that out.

You win early or you don't win at all.

Extending Harris and overpaying for Linebackers still drives me nuts. You win Super Bowls with Cornerbacks and Pass Rushers, you don't make up for that by overpaying other spots.

Vikings rarely win in Chicago when they have good teams. Fields will have a "Field" day against the Vikings and Zimmer will act like they didn't know their QB was mobile until after the game.

Harrison Smith hasn't been a great player for three years. That was the latest one to puzzle me. Who gives a safety a big contract extension in their 10th year?

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 8:31:07 AM)

Vikings could easily start 0-4. At that point Zimmer is going to CAPTAIN RED FACE.

Yesterday was as bad as a division loss, the remaining teams in the division will beat the Bengals and the rest of the AFC North is very good.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 9:29:02 AM)

What I saw yesterday around the NFL was teams paying the price for not playing starters during the preseason. In the past 10 quarters, Green Bay has scored 3 points.

SteveR -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 9:30:28 AM)

I did not watch the whole game because I can only watch an episode rerun so many times, and Spielman and Zimmer have been reruns for multiple seasons now.

I figured they'd beat the Bengals, though. The early part of the schedule is our best chance to eat some Ws. Now it looks like we are going to go hungry. I'm kind of interesting in seeing some of the Cardinals game, though. It might have a degree of comedic value if one enjoys OL humor.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 9:36:09 AM)

At some point, teams are going to have to understand that siting their starters in the preseason is a bad idea. We saw more teams lose guys in practice than in preseason games.

A lot of teams looked entirely unprepared yesterday. The worst were Green Bay and Tennessee.....neither of which played any major starters during the preseason.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 9:51:30 AM)

Rookie starters yesterday (Wilson, Lawrence, Jones) were 0-3.

77-127 (60.6%) 871 yards 6 TD's 4 INT's

DavidAOlson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 10:13:11 AM)

I had the fortune of being in a TV market where I could watch the Lions lose, the Packers lose, and Chicago lose. But not the Vikings.

I mostly chose to watch Frontline instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5iBxva_pm8

The Vikes played atrociously is so many fixable ways, and were still within a blown call of winning the game. I'm mostly going to ignore the game.

But based on what I heard...

Teams might copy Green Bay's approach to stopping the Vikings offense: backside DE's play the QB, not the run, to limit bootlegs and play action? That should open up something, like cutbacks or reverses.
Darrisaw will likely stabilize the Oline, once he can play. Dennison's refusal to be vaccinated likely hurt coaching continuity of that unit.
WR depth — a major preseason concern — is clearly not an issue. Osborn, wow. If ISM develops too, the Vikes have a solid young WR core.
The TE injuries hurt significantly, but that situation will improve as Herndon gets settled.
Pierce is a beast.
The Dline was so good that Vigil seemed to be a solid sub.
Lots of defensive changes and innovation, which will likely come together ferociously in a few weeks.

And I keep thinking: Cousins unvaxxed is like a QB who is essentially planned "injured" a random 2 weeks. That's going to suck when it happens.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 10:28:37 AM)

As I said a month ago, our o-line faces Chandler Jones, JJ Watt, Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowley, Demarcus Lawrence, Randy Gregory, Joey Bosa, Za'Darius Smith, Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, Michael Brockers, TJ Watt, Kalil Mack, Akiem Hicks and Aaron Donald this season.

This was supposed to be the easy game.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 10:29:34 AM)

After watching captain hold the ball… fn hold the ball until he took a sack, or made a crap throw for 3 yards, . well short of any attempt to reach first down territory, so many times.., if he were to go down with season ending injury and “minion” drove the team onto the dirt, under Les Steckles Coffin, causing combination of fan revolt, income loss, coach and GM firings by week 10…

…JOY…!!!!

Cousins played well enough at times to be considered a starting QB.

But for F’s sake, he gets game checks, after taxes, that are like paying a burger flipping Mickey D’s line cook 4 k a week..[&o]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/13/2021 10:34:03 AM)

Yeap. Terrible game. I expected a bunch of improvement based on:

D additions
O-Line couldn't possible be as bad right?
Urgency because last year sucked

1. Pierce was outstanding but that was about it. Hunter didn't even register a look until late, Breeland was burned toast and Smith was a passenger. Glad he's onboard for 20 more years.....[&o]
2. They got worse...how? No clue but they did
3. The trend continues. Zimmer doesn't have them ready to play. I don't care what the argument is. "Can't play for them, they have to execute the play...blah...blah". That many penalties on the entire team is on the coaches. They simply weren't ready. I don't know the actual "why" but it's not the first time. Inexcusable.

We could easily go 0-4 and, if so, it's time to eat Cousins contract and get rid of him and Zimmer/Spielman.

I know people will say "we were a Cook fumble from overcoming all that shit" and that's true. Would a good team be in that position and, remember, not the first (or 10th) time?

Last point, wasn't even a fumble but still, shouldn't have come to that.
