Vikings O-line graded out as the worst pass blocking line in football. I apologize. The Vikings defense ranked 30 out of 32 teams, not dead last. And the special teams were only a below average #21. Mea Culpa. Cousins, meanwhile was the #8 QB.

You can't seriously deny that despite putrid play (by any reasonable standard) of these units, that Cousins draws a disproportionate amount of the finger pointing and negative commentary.

100% cousins gets more blame than he should. He’s the QB after all. #8? On his jersey for sure.

Edit - vikes o line was ranked 28. Not last.

Edit again - 28 in pass. 26 overall

Despite not too shabby play from the tackles. That's I was saying the interior offensive line was the worst in NFL history.

Here's a video that I enjoyed watching. It was interesting because of the intensity of the crowd noise (something I really miss) and because our team had a number of stars and they all showed up big time.

Take the time to watch it. You won't be disappointed.

What a game! I was lucky to be there. So many moments. Vernon Davis destroyed us! Classic priefer special teams - blocked fg for a TD and then the first round draft pick returning kicks gets it back. When the vikes failed on the 4th and five about 10,000 people left the building. Haha! Suckers!

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/2/2021 12:49:07 PM)

Pretty funny discussion. Everyone is pinging for Watson. Past 3 years as a comparison:

Team Wins/Losses

Texans 25-23
Vikings 25-22-1

Playoff "success"

Texans 1-2
Vikings 1-1

Individual stats:

Watson

12840 85 28

Cousins

12166 91 29

They fired their entire staff, traded away, arguably a top LT and one of the top 10 WR's. We extended all of our guys but it's Cousins fault. Granted those stats don't account for running/escapability and age but the starting point in all discussions for Watson is, at least, 3 #1's and the Texans aren't listening. We pine to give SF a #1 and take back Jimmy G. Sounds about right....

Running and escapability adds 1400 yards and 15 TDS.

Priefer was coaching in Denver that year.

Always a fun watch, although on reflection a last second home win against a non-playoff team lead by Shawn Hill always took a bit of the luster off.

And we're still only 1/2 game better than that, widely considered horribly ran, organization. No wonder we extended our brain trust!

Probably not considered a horribly ran, organization in their back to back division titles 2018-2019

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/2/2021 4:10:20 PM)

Just like the Washington Football Team. Fans must be going crazy on their possible back to back this year.

twinsfan -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/2/2021 4:44:01 PM)

Vikes released Rudolph.

You beat me to it! [:D]

It's not unheard of for a free agent to test the waters and return to his original team for less. The thing about Rudolph's situation is that there is one great tight end talent in the draft and then a huge drop off after that. He will be helped by that if he wants to play for money.

If you want to compare 7-9 in a dumpster fire of a division to back to back 10-6/11-5 division titles, that's certainly your prerogative.

I had a feeling that was going to happen.

It's too bad regarding Rudy.

But in the end this is a business and we have his replacement already on the roster.

Exactly. No hedging. They may have given him a very low offer and told him it will be there after he's tested the waters. I hope not (it's time to move on), but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/2/2021 7:25:09 PM)

Hell of a lot classier than they treated Antoine Winfield Sr that’s for sure

Steve Lentz -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/2/2021 8:02:36 PM)

Read he was a 4 time Team Captain.
Certainly made some of the sweetest catches I've seen.

What happened? I must have missed something.

35 years old. Played here 9 years(two nice contracts). Asked him to take pay cut. Cut him. Tried to resign him for less.

Then, more or less, he retired after that.

Not good if they just cut him cold turkey. Especially when he chose us over Jets in last minute decision.

As I recall, we were willing to pay Winfield around $3M to stay. He decided to sign with Seattle for damn near league minimum. Then they cut him in preseason.

They cut him one hour before free agency started - after the legal tampering window. Winfield's camp maintains that there was no offer for a paycut and that they were expecting business as usual. They pulled him out of his workout at Winter Park to tell him. He was coming off one of his best seasons in his career.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/3/2021 7:50:37 AM)

Irv's Smith stats from Weeks 14-17 (when Rudy was gone) extrapolated to a 16-game season
*(where he would've ranked across the league)

Targets: 80 (13th)
Receptions: 60 (t-8th)
Yards: 732 (3rd!!!)
TDs: 12 (1st!!!)
