We got him.[8|]

DT Harrison Philips(Bills)

Not much for pass rushing but had a lot of tackles on a good Bill defense.

Omaha native:Steve and Dan country

Mark Anderson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/14/2022 8:15:27 PM)

3yrs. $19.5M [:-]

I'm guessing Pierce was released.

I like him a little better than Pierce or Tomlinson... (very disappointed in Pierce)
I think this is the type of signing we will see this year.
Potentially underrated guys that are cheap.

You are probably right.

It kind of rains on Pierce's big reveal ... but oh well.

So far ...

Cousins, TY MCGill, the tendered punter, our classy farewell to Dozier, non-competitive bids for COle - Woods, and Pierce writing a suspense novel.

It's probably starting to dawn on Kwesi that the rest of the league is non-collaborative.

Oh snap! I totally got that non- collaborative reference. Well played, sir. It's still early but so far our gm/hmfic hires seem more anti-incumbant than inspired.

Is it just me, or can people actually get through an entire KOC interview? Zzzzzz....

"The Buffalo Bills have lost rising star from their defense. 1-tech defensive tackle Harrison Phillips has signed a big deal with the Minnesota Vikings, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

Garafolo reports it as a three-year, $19.5 million deal. We projected a three-year, $18 million contract for Phillips earlier this offseason and he has slightly exceeded that number. We will have to see how it’s structured.

Phillips has overcome multiple injuries throughout his career to play at a high level by the end of the 2021 season. He had usurped veteran Star Lotulelei as the starting 1-tech by the time the playoffs rolled around. This leaves a hole in their defense, at least in their best defensive alignment."

https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2022/3/14/22978418/bills-free-agent-harrison-phillips-heads-to-minnesota-on-big-three-year-deal

EDIT: Don't get all excited like I did misreading 'usurped veteran star Lotulei' as 'usurped veteran star ... Lotulelei' ... I had forgotten Star was his first name.

Gee thanks but careful about insulting O'Connell, Kwesi will come out throwing punches. All 135 lbs of him.

Richardson, Stephen, Pierce, Tomlinson (Richardson) …

Hopefully, Phillips will do more than just carry the mantle of the last few DTs signed out of the gate in FA.

Those guys are a far cry from Linval Joseph & Pat Williams signings.

For what it's worth... PFF likes Harrison.

kwesi's analytics are going to find the most 'bang for buck' free agents...he's got to be sneaky about who he's interested in, or others will charge in and drive the price up....

he knows we need a center - we can't afford to chase backup players like woods or cole...it'll work out....

patience....

I like that Kwesi finally dipped his big toe into the water, swished it around a little bit, and got a bite from a young, decent, early-down role player.

Hopefully a better, slightly cheaper version of Pierce.

Patience? I'm surprised we haven't made more headway with the cap. Without some heavy lifting there, not sure there are many 3 yr contracts left to dole out before the one year Petersons, Breelands, Woodses and Coleses start to kick in. And those aren't the answer to roster building.

But yes ... we are only getting started.

the new league year starts tomorrow...we're $2.5mm under the cap with cousins's new deal and pierce gone - the Phillips deal is not on the books yet....

i think the new hunter deal is next, because that's the easy one...i think kwesi is trying to work out new deals with thielen and smith - keep them, but eliminate the dead cap in future years...like; replace the existing contract with a new one for $5mm base salary in 2022 and nothing beyond...only saves $1.5mm, but has no hit in the future....

is matt paradis a good option for us at center?...too expensive?....

I enjoy all your "cap" analyses rat. Kwesi might have a spot for you on his staff. Are you still overseas? Might cause some work difficulties[:D]. Am serious about the compliment though.

Have we found a quarterback that can run a two-minute offense yet? Wake me up when we do. Otherwise, we are just rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic.

Well, he's started four games in his career so he's definitely an under the radar type.

He can work 6:00 a.m. to noon there until Brzez strolls in.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2022 8:38:15 AM)

This is kicking the can.

Tom Silverstein
@TomSilverstein
One source said the dead money cap hit for the end of Aaron Rodgers’ contract as it stands now is around $75M. That’s when the #Packers go into rebuild mode.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2022 8:48:12 AM)

Per ESPN:

Cousins, 33, has worked the NFL's labor rules to his advantage better than any player in league history.
....
He has now signed three fully guaranteed contracts with the Vikings, and his $158.9 million in earnings between 2016 and 2021 are the most by any player in the NFL over that period.

He had a 78.4 QB Rating in the final two minutes of halves and completed just 56.5% of his passes. In short, he was pretty poor, as I have been reporting for two years.

So yes, I did watch the games.

Before those three contracts, he played on two consecutive Franchise Tag designations in WA, also guaranteed.

Kwesi’s team spirit just broke up and splashed against KCs solitary ‘Pillar of What’s Mine’.

Nobody should fault KC for reaping the benefits of the system … but there is a point where reaping becomes raping …

And Cousins improved this year … it may not be a strength but, at least earlier in the year, he came through on some crucial last minute drives … so yes you are wrong. As usual, hand picked stats don’t say it.

The problem in 2022 was not Cousins in the 2 min drill, it was his two out of three 3-and-outs before the final drives. We led the league [in 3-and-outs].

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2022 10:38:56 AM)

This is the quarterback ratings in the final two minutes of halves last season. This was an improvement for Cousins, who was about 30th a year earlier. Outside of Mahomes, you see anybody below Cousins you would like as your starter? Lamar Jackson maybe? I left out a couple of teams where guys didn't start a lot of games.

Now we know why Denver went after Wilson.

Rodgers 123.7
Burrow 118.8
Garoppolo 116.4
Stafford 112.6
Wilson 111.2
Prescott 102.5
Mills 99.2
Herbert 94.1
Bridgewater 91.1
Ryan 90.9
Murray 87.7
Heinicke 85.9
Tannehill 85.6
Allen 84.5
Brady 84.4
Wilson 83.7
Lawrence 81.4
Tagovailoa 80.8
Cousins 78.4
Hurts 77.9
Wentz 77.0
Roethlieberger 76.9
Carr 76.4
Goff 76.0
Mac Jones 67.6
Mahomes 66.3
Jackson 62.0
Mayfield 58.5
Daniel Jones 56.3
