vikes sign jordan hicks....

Ben Goessling@BenGoessling
The #Vikings see Jordan Hicks, who’s signing a two-year deal with them after being released by the Cardinals, as a a three-down linebacker in their new scheme. They’re also high on his leadership qualities as they add him to a defense in transition.

He is younger, took less, played more games, plays hurt, and was rated better.

Pierce could have stayed at 5-6 million but he chose not too...also there is this:

Phillips PFF ranking was 15 (higher than Tomlinson at 17 and Pierce at 25).

Crown his ass, I don't care.

I think you care.[;)]

LOL, actually by virtue of Phil loving Phillips there is a great chance Phillips will suck (no pun intended).

Geez, Bill. I bet you’re fun at parties.

Depends who's there.

NFL Comp Picks are out:

MN:0 Picks.

Next year Hicks won't factor into the equation.

When Phillips finishes his contract he will be the same age as Pierce is finishing his contract (actually Pierce would have been younger when completing his contract if not for COVID). Gasp, I hope you don't hold his age against him then!

In your quest for youth, you cannot fairly compare the start age of player's contract to the ending age of a player's contract. Especially if for any reason the latter player is unlikely to be resigned, because he would basically be cut.

No, what you are missing is... production. And that remains to be seen in this scheme... assuming no excuses on your part for a change.

An Adam Thielen restructure is on the way to clear up some cap space. #Vikings

Mark Anderson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/16/2022 10:02:40 PM)

Would Dallas do this after getting burned by Gregory and Von Miller?

Hunter for #24 and G Connor McGovern

Jeff Allen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/16/2022 10:38:36 PM)

As expected, the Vikings just don't have the dollars to make meaningful moves that will help them. The smart move (and I thought Kwesi was smart) was to trade Cousins and three or four vets, go with Tyrod Taylor and Kellen Mond, finish 4-13, and rebuild in 2023.

What they have now is another 8-9 season. Well done, Kwesi.

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/16/2022 11:06:43 PM)

Come on, Jeff, they might even go 9-8

Weird though, because the Saints went from what, 70 million over the cap and got out from under it...the puke were 45 mil over? and got under (Rodgers only saved them 18 mil)

I feel like the cap has become meaningless, just push off cap hits to the next year and then the next....I just don't think that is sustainable, but teams don't seem to be suffering from that ...not sure why we haven't been more proactive this way...guys all over youtube have laid out seemingly easy plans to make space for the Vikes...but nothing seems to be happening for us

This is the first time I've started to doubt Brzezinski...maybe players just aren't willing to restructure?

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/17/2022 12:47:41 AM)

Not happy they're working on trading Hunter.

Maybe mostly bc we're not in a position to get the haul we should. 2 season ending injuries back to back and he's disgruntled...

Anything less than at least 1 1st is a major fail.

Not loving this off season.

That might be the reason we are thinking about trading him.

BigSky -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/17/2022 10:42:21 AM)

Have to agree Todd, so far it feels like we're going backwards.

I am betting we don't get more than a 3rd rounder for him.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/17/2022 11:12:43 AM)

Jordan Hicks? Really? With Miles Jack available at the time?

The Kirk Cousins contract strikes again!

Then you turn his roster bonus into a signing bonus and keep him

Supposedly we can do that without his permission.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/17/2022 1:23:17 PM)

Keep Hunter, trade Cousins.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/17/2022 2:09:16 PM)

I’m gonna just call it a day..

Trade Hunter.. OK.. bet there are teams lining up with pots of gold for mr Rupture disk in neck now post surgery…

This franchise made some huge mistakes in contracts..

This is the result..

Players with contracts held all the cards.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/21/2022 11:33:44 AM)

It's too late so I guess barely even worth this post... All four NFC North teams have over $20 million in dead cap space in 2022 (Bears $48 million!) and there's no end in sight with all the void years and cuts that need to be made to get under each year. The time to rebuild was after Kirk's third year. We could have been in a spot to thrive while the rest of the division scrapes just to keep their roster viable. Instead we joined them. Bleh.

Look at Houston. They now have six first-round picks in the next three drafts and will have over $120 million in cap space next season. They also have a rookie QB THAT ACTUALLY PLAYED IN 2021 and they know he's at least a place-holder for now. Now that's a team with a chance! Yes, they might blow it - but by golly they have a chance. I know, you might say "well that's what happens when you're a cellar-dweller". Really?

Record since 2018 (when we picked up Kirk):

Vikings: 33-32-1, Playoffs 1-1, Division titles - 0

Texans: 29-36-0, Playoffs 1-2, Division titles - 2

This post is mostly just me whining and by mostly I mean entirely.

You have a right to whine DF. Most people are underwhelmed with the Vikings FA moves.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/21/2022 5:36:42 PM)

No chance of Cousins to Indy:

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter
Trade now official: Falcons have traded QB Matt Ryan to the Colts for a 2022 third-round pick.

climb on board...the vikings are going all in for '22 & '23 and kicking some cap down the road to do it...it doesn't make sense to start saving now....

sign dz-smith...sign tretter...sign the best CB we can afford and let's draft some studs....

it's up to o'connell to take us all the way - i have the faith...let's do it....

Minnesota teams in full speed ahead mode.

Wolves: Look like a top 5 team right now
Wild: Traded for a top goalie
Twins: Correa, Gray and the Yankee guys

Vikings: Might as well go for it too.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/22/2022 10:35:08 AM)

The main source of hope for me right now comes from "just how bad a coach was Zimmer?" We know his clock management was garbage. We know he had no killer instinct. We know he stubbornly wanted to win only if he could win "his way". Does Kevin O'Connell come in and win 12 games with essentially the same squad? If we win 10 games is O'Connell awesome or was Zimmer just that bad? How will we be able to tell?

This reminds me a an old but true story. A store hired a new manager and suddenly profits and sales were up in a big way. Everyone praised the new manager - rightfully so. One long-time banker listened to the story of the store's turnaround and said, "So the new guy is only stealing half as much as the old guy". I think about that statement and the context of that statement regularly still to this day.

drviking -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/22/2022 10:54:53 AM)

I would have burned it down...seemed like a logical time to do it...

looking forward..

Sign Tretter (IMO this will make or break this offseason, by far my biggest priority was getting rid of Bradbury)

sign PP/Waynes/Rhodes or whatever average veteran CB available

1st round CB
2nd round RG (unless they are in love with Davis)

I could at least watch that team with some interest.

Offense could be interesting (even with Kirk's limitations)

Darrisaw (looked promising) Cleveland (avg) Tretter (solid or good) RG (hope, davis or draft pick) Oneil

JJ/Theilen/KJ/Irv/Cook with some gadget player potential instead of CJ Ham, offensive creativity and aggression, without mind numbing bad clock/game management

Defense is a big question mark, but at least it will be different changing to a 3-4, so I can have some interest in seeing that

Personally, I dont think the 'culture' can change until you flush the old team leaders (thielen, kirk, harry, kendricks etc), but we will see

This team was so boring at times last year, IMO....which is weird to say when there were so many 'close' games...

maybe it was the league leading 3 and outs, but something was very boring to me last year (apathy?)
