I knew it was over in the first quarter ..

You receive, run two stupid predictable running plays, then an incompletion and punt..

Your defense and special teams do their job, setting you up with a fat plumb easy touchdown at the 1 yard line..

Three dumbass plays later, you kick a field goal…

Ensuing kickoff, you can’t even do the smart thing and boot it out of the endzone, then your special teams players act like they have never seen a kick returned in thier life and the route is in full voice at cheesehead sucks stadium…..

If Donatello comes back and we try to run a 3-4 defense with shitty personnel, again..

I’ll be wishing for the return of the KAO of Brad Childress and the Swiss cheese “gotta look at the tape” defense of Leslie Frazier..

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 8:13:46 AM)

Reed entered the game and looked completely unprepared (0 snaps with 1st team in practice) and KOC runs the ball right behind Reed and Ingram for no gain. Why would you do that?

Yeah that was just idiotic.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 8:42:04 AM)

What would an elevator pitch about the team sound like?

So they are 12-4 BUT... and there are a lot of them. The pass defense is horrid, and QBs have career days against them. The offense is wildly inconsistent, often going 3 and out on consecutive possessions when just a semi-sustained drive is needed. They usually win aided by some crazy turnover, sudden great play, a tilt towards home games, and playing teams that are without their starting QB. Uncanny luck in close games, certainly against the odds. They get blown out by good teams. But really, the expectations were not that high and it's sort of a "the rest is gravy" kind of season.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 9:32:33 AM)

This team will have to improve a ton in 2023 to approach a similar record.

One score games and god awful defense doesn’t equal 12-13 wins more than a couple times a century.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 9:58:58 AM)

It's an 8-8 team with a 12-4 record. Exactly what I've been saying all season. The defense is horrific. The quarterback is, at-best, one of the 15-20 best quarterbacks in the league (no higher).

It's been a fun season with the close wins and all, but it's not a great football team. Right now they may be the third best team in their own division.

Yesterday was a classic case of the major difference between a great quarterback and "just a guy". The great quarterback made Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Robert Tonyan and Allen Lazard look good. The guy with Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Adam Thielen and KJ Osborn made a mess of the game.

You haven't been saying anything all season. They've been winning, so you haven't been here. What a surprise that you showed up today.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 10:06:58 AM)

I'm disappointed that KOC is supposed to be a great offensive mind but I see no improvement in our offense. So many 3 and outs.

You haven't been looking in the right places. Been saying it all year.

I even came up with a new term based on the Vikings performances..."Chernobyl Quarters". The Vikings have complete meltdown quarters when it matters.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 10:13:06 AM)

I've seen two positives from this regime since they arrived. 1) They have shown the ability to win close games (this season anyways). 2) They were aggressive and made a move for Hockenson when they had to.

Outside of that, they have shown me absolutely nothing. The defense is as bad as it has ever been.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 10:13:17 AM)

I haven't been looking in the right places...as in this.forum.[;)]

That wouldn't happen as often with a good quarterback.

This team has bobbed and weaved and rope-a-doped in every game, the wins have come from feistiness and last-minute out-of-breath punch-drunk haymakers thrown at more out-of-breath wobbly opponets …

not by playing well with any consistency.

Meanwhile, Det and GB started horribly but feel like teams that improved and self-corrected and picked up steam at the right time. I dont think they are good teams but they are certainly playing well at the right time.

Yes winning in the playoffs will indeed be extra gravy for this vastly over-achieving team, I just wish it felt more like a building process into the future.
Not just flukiness.

It didn't happen as often under Zimmer even.

I'll just say this. I don't think the offense is the main problem. You can only outscore your opponent so many weeks in a row before the wheels come off.

Good points. At this rate is doesn't feel like we're building upon anything.

What about the games against Dallas, Philly, and GB. I'd have to say the offense was a large part of the problem in those games. It's not like we were keeping up with those teams and ran out of juice.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 10:39:18 AM)

The Vikings are giving up nearly 397 yards-per-game on defense. They are giving up 25.9 PPG (worst in the league). You can't win anything important with that. Eventually the offense matches up against a defense that can get a few stops.

Definitely agree with you. I'm just disappointed with the complete disappearance of offense in the bigger spots. We know the defense stinks.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/2/2023 10:45:32 AM)

Painful day yesterday was ... ouch!

Nothing to do but ride it out and see what happens.

Ill be the opposite of Brad - the worse they do the less you'll see me.

The Vikings often forget they have a decent running game to rely on. They have the second least amount of attempts in the league for the year.

IMO, Cook and the running game had a chance to be great yesterday but the play-calling never allowed it to happen. Once the Packers got out front they were daring the Vikings to run and they wouldn't do it.

The Vikings had 17 attempts from running backs in the game, four of which came in the first five minutes of the game. If you are going to try and control the tempo of the game, you have to be smarter than that.

Well the times we ran it didn't seem effective at all. The 1st and goal gift devolving to a fg was brutal.

Don’t know man. He seem to execute those 3 handoffs at the 1 perfectly 😳

Or smart enough to call the game(s) situationally. You’re not there yet.

Zimmer ran the ball regardless of the score / situation. What a hoot that was.

Agreed. We are not a short-yardage juggernaut. Minnesota has the second lowest first down percentage by rush in the league. In the last three games it is 16.44% (dead last), which is way below the league average.
