The Vikings are No. 18 in sacks and No. 27 in completion percentage (against). No. 28 in first down percentage passing.

As I've been saying for the better part of 15 years in here, if you can't cover, you aren't going to be competitive. The sack numbers are in the middle of the league. The completion percentage is towards the bottom.

The end result, nearly last in points allowed in the league (No. 31).

DEFENSE STARTS AT THE CORNERS!

Who are the Vikings studs on defense? Hunter, Zed, Kendricks, Peterson and Smith. They all look worse because of a bad scheme, they will look better in a better scheme.

And how many of those 5 will even be here next year?

Harrison and Kendricks are (likely) potential salary cuts.

Za'Darius either needs to be renegotiated or he'll be cut.

Peterson is a Free Agent after this season.

Even Hunter will be going into the final year of his deal (and there is a mess of future dead cap on his sheet).

bstinger -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 11:08:19 AM)

Future cap situation looks pretty bleak. Rob Brzezinski has his hands full.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 11:09:25 AM)

Can you imagine Marty as a reincarnation of Zygi?

Yes it's 2025 but we need to be competitive again. That starts with signing our own studs and talented players on defense! You best sign Harrison Smith, Kendricks, and Peterson pronto! We must ensure we have more talented defensive players than the Giants!

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 11:11:09 AM)

BTW, for those at home thinking Cousins is having a great year. According to ESPN he has the No. 24 QB rating.

How in the heck are they going to make up last night's game?

It doesn't sound like they will. Team went back to Buffalo. My guess is it will be a forfeit by Buffalo.

Wow that seems crazy. How very unfortunate.

It's history altering.

Why? His go-to maneuver is creating Void Years.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 11:16:17 AM)

I wonder how dusty someone's Talk Vikes chatting seat was before they cleaned it off, cracked their knuckles and settled into their comfy spot. Now that we're as down on the team as we have been...time to shine...

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 11:25:12 AM)

Of course I'm curious...

Everyone to a person...saying and doing the right thing. About the game not being bigger etc.

But what about the injured party? Would any player if asked to project how'd they'd want things to go say stop everything and think of me or wish his team to carry on?

There didn't appear to be a lot of guys on the field last night interested in playing football after the incident.

Per Goodell, the NFL postponed the game. Disagree Buffalo will be charged with a forfeit.

Diggs was trying to rally the team. Then everyone went back to their rightfully so morose state of being.

I'm not sure how you could even think of playing football after that.

How do you focus on the game? And you just can not safely or effectively play football if you aren't dialed in.

I had a moment last night where I though to myself, if they keep this game going I may never watch football again. I think the NFL would have lost a lot of fans permanently had they opted to continue.

Is there financial repercussions for not continuing (playoff scenarios, etc...)? Sure there is, for the individual teams. But not as big as the ones if they do decide to continue.

The NFL will always be driven by money. They will come out with some sort of melodramatic statement about human life being more important than football...blah blah blah this week. The bottom line is, they made a financial decision and had no choice IMO.

A delay appropriate enough to give coaches and captains a chance to get things together.

No one will say it but if he died...nearly to a man, it should just be god bringing him home doing the thing he loved. And if he survives god has a different plan. I don't know why believers are so moved by death/near death. It's see you later in heaven, brother, or you'll be ok BC god has a plan.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 11:48:14 AM)

It's funny how everything lines up in opposition to what the injured (or worse) party would want.

Spoken like a guy that has never played at a higher level. Or a fan that had a vested interest.

In order to play NFL football, there has to be a certain mental mindset to play. That was gone after the incident, and no 15 minute pep talk was going to bring it back.

None of us in here have any idea what it would have been like to be on that field as a player. All I know is, it didn't look like anyone wanted to play football.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 12:00:36 PM)

I was once in a flight formation that almost had a midair. Granted it was just a routine, peacetime training mission and nobody was actually fighting death, but the decision - really without any discussion - was to forget the rest of the mission and return to base immediately.

The mere thought of others dying made that easy, and if something just mildly adverse had happened if we continued, upper echelons of command would have had our ass for poor decision making. Yeah they'd likely have looked the other way if nothing else had happened, but that is where they have to trust the aircrews to make the decision in real time, especially in the middle of the night when they are home sleeping.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 12:02:55 PM)

The best thing to happen on Sunday is that they worked on quick passing game and incorporated someone younger that can get open (Nailor).

The Oline is a train wreck w/o 2 starters and 2 backups now down also....hopefully they can get Bradbury back and maybe move the guys around (Cleveland to RT maybe if nothing else can be figured out, Reed to RG or LG).

I get that you don't really care when people you don't know personally die, but this thread drift is bordering on sociopathic...

I had absolutely no desire to watch the game if it had continued. I can't even imagine what would be going through the players heads if they had to keep playing.

Good add-on edit. I think the absolute limit for playing is tomorrow, but that hinges on the players health and is almost totally unlikely regardless. Barring any rapid changes, their obvious and really only angle is to keep saying this is all about the player.

They will come up with some way - perhaps overall W/L percentage - to determine seedings. There won't be a way to make every fan happy, but they can and will point to the fact that this is totally new ground, a life was at stake, etc to gain the upper hand over the dissenters.

I agree with postponing the game last night; it just took them way too long on the decision. A player taking a hit in the chest amazingly doesn't happen that much but when they are out on the field giving CPR.

I didn't watch the game last night and very glad I didn't.

bstinger -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 12:09:12 PM)

Explanation of the probable issue he suffered.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgCqG3PLYXY

I'm not a Dr. so don't kill me if I get something wrong here, but from my understanding of this explanation there is a condition called Commotio Cordis that can happen when there is blunt force trauma to the heart area during a specific period of the cardiac cycle. The hit essentially short circuits the electrical rhythm of the heart.

The cardiac cycle lasts approximately .8 seconds. The portion of that cycle where this could happen is 20 milliseconds. So every .8 seconds of your life there is .0025% of that time when you are in danger of this happening if you got hit in the heart area by something hard.

To try and put the numbers into perspective, there are 86,400 seconds in a day. 108,000 cardiac cycles. Approximately a total of 2.16 seconds per day you are at risk.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2023 12:15:01 PM)

They had to get Goodell involved, get him to make a decision, then get the decision back out. Given the logistics, it wasn't that long of a delay although in a perfect world he is always standing by, has all the facts and info (and in this case a good reading on the emotions and public stance), and has the technology to broadcast his decision nationally.

8:55pm ET: Injury occurs
9:18pm: Game suspended
9:25pm: Ambulance leaves
10:01pm: Game postponed

I think the official announcement was just a formality anyway. And the status of 'postponed' (as in postponed indefinitely) was good in that it was nebulous.
