I gave Kwesi a pass last year being new to the job and getting settled in. But he was deathly slow at getting things done before the new calendar year and he appears to be well behind this year as well.

Most teams have cut players and have reneg others to get in cap compliance. Meanwhile what has Kwesi done? He had a deadline with Tomlison and had to post date that. Why? You knew about this deadline for a year.

Couple this with reading his blather while rubbing shoulders with other GM's at the combine has me wondering about this guy.

Sorry, just thinking out loud.

The new year doesn't start for 2-3 weeks....Derek Carr's decision was early because it was setup that way in his contract.

Feb. 21-March 7: Window for teams to designate franchise or transition players. March 13-15: Legal negotiation window ahead of free agency. March 15 (4 p.m. ET): 2023 NFL League Year begins.

We need to be in cap compliance Mar 15. Like I was saying what has he done to get busy with this?

He has 2 weeks yet. He should let you know what he is going to do because you think that is right? [;)] Odds are they are known internally or being worked out but not official.

Your right let's wait until the last minute. Kwesi will then need to sleep 72 hrs and miss free agency.

GB has restructured 4 contracts and are +11ml for example.

The Minnesota Vikings are the place to be. No other team in the NFL offers the facilities, player treatment, or coaches that the Vikings do.

That’s the word from NFLPA, as the association released its inaugural “team report cards” Wednesday, and the Vikings topped the list.

Vikings Have Huge New Bargaining Chip for Free Agents

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted, “The NFLPA is releasing its first-ever team report cards based on surveying roughly 1,300 players. Ranking No. 1 overall in football facilities, staff, and overall treatment of players: the Vikings, followed by the Dolphins at 2 and Raiders at 3.”…vikingsterritory

If Cousins' cap hit is ~36 and the new benchmark is 45 to 50 I wouldn't touch his contract. If you want to stay and get another dime added on...win a couple of playoff games.

Diatribe is a good one.

Like him or not, Spielman was crafty and fairly unflappable (facing the media which he is betted suited for than GM).

Kwesi’s not there yet. He’s kind of a sopping wet post-larval thing half out of his pupae. Firing Donatell and axing a few popular veterans will do more for his GM steel than all the formulas in Excel combined.

Time to get dirty without exfoliating.

I think the state of the franchise has even penetrated Zygi's brain housing group. Maybe he's now given Kwesi carte blanche to cut like there is no tomorrow. Kwesi might be thinking, shit I lost a year with this dolt.

As much as I'd love to see the cuts-a-plenty, and I'm not saying that won't happen, let's not ignore that all the older guys with high cap figures could also be extended which would lower their 2023 numbers enough to get us through 2023. H Smith, Thielen, Cook, ZSmtih, and Kendricks' contracts are by no means underwater. There is plenty of space to retructure every last one of them and, of course, kick even more money into upcoming years.

I wish like crazy they just cut all or most of them (or trade if possible). Let Kirk play out his final year and then go into 2024 with tons of cap space and hopefully a 1st round QB we can take a try with.

Sure, and of course Kwesi is adept at extending contracts into his beloved void years.

Assuming he cannot put a viable team together with the current batch of contracts, he's left with cutting or extending. I think they have enough in the tank to trade for a low round pick, but not at their salaries.

Could we scrape by in 2023 with Cousins at qb, Jefferson, KJ, Nailor and a cheap FA at wr, Hock at TE, wangwu and chandler at rb, the best OT tandem in the nfl, ezra, ingram at G and a mid-tier FA center? I think we could. On the defensive side though...

Dantzler, Booth, bynam, and evans at CB, Hunter, Jones, and wonnum at DE/OLB, Lynch, and Tonga and a FA DT, Metallus and a FA safety?

I suppose we could sprinkle in our first-rounder as a possible starter at a position of need. It looks scary but maybe it could work?

Harrison Phillips will be on the roster and you left out ILBs. Sure 'maybe' it could work, but really it's a defense only in the technical sense that there are 11 people lining up on defense.

On offense, same old Cousins, unknowns at RB, crap IOL, and a RT with an achilles tear late in the year. Let's hope Darrisaw doesn't get concussed.

Totally agree. The thing is, things have set up kind of perfectly for Kwesi. The bloated contracts are for older guys we want to ditch anyway and they're mostly on the defensive side of the ball. Heck, the moves Kwesi has to make are so obvious a child could be GM this year.

Yeah I whipped that post together on the quick and wasn't very thorough. The question I was getting to was: Could we field a serviceable team in 2023 with what would be left after the cuts, after the draft, and after a few FA pickups? If we win some games - great! If we lose a bunch of games then maybe we enter 2024 with a solid amount of cap space to help the D and IOL, two elite tackles, the best WR in the game, the third best (second?) TE in the game, some other 2nd-7th round picks, and a shiny new Caleb Williams at QB?

This is what makes me nervous, reworking contracts to keep the 13-5 band together. Exactly what foundation was put down to augment and build upon?

We were the third best team in our division at playoff time and one of the worst in the playoffs. That includes our wildly up and down offense, not just the lousy defense (although mostly).

No tweaking with Thielen, Harry, Cook, Hicks, Ham. I will be greatly discouraged if we simply shuffle their peas under different shells.

Its not just the money ... show some confidence in your ability and stop leaning on Spielman.

The answer is yes, no matter who is wheeled out we will have a serviceable team in 2023. Functional and usable, complying with NFL and NFLPA policy.

i think that spielman spoke around issues better than kwesi...while he adds a lot of unnecessary gibberish, one can understand the situation better....

the vikes don't want to go with a one-year extension....

when asked about our linebackers; kwesi ran on about asamoah, dye, and kwenkeu but never mentioned kendricks or hicks....gone....

I was listening to Reggie Wilson (w/ Sam Ekstrom & Luke Inman) and he disagrees with the take that they are gone and Kwesi was talking more that Hicks and Kendricks were in place and the others were there to be able to "step up" - not an "intentional omission"

we shall see....

i can see us cutting kendricks and thielen and then offering them a 1-yr deal at $4mm....

hicks is gone....

That's the bottomline... does he kick things down the road for another year?

Renegotiating to lower contracts and starting them on the field is like lifting up part of the band-aid, peeking, thinking the scab is doing ok, and putting the band-aid back on.

If Kwesi and OConnel want this job long term, they had better start weeding out the bloated contracts now. Hopefully Flores sticks around long enough to get the players he wants. Fans will put up with a rebuild if it's done right. The recipe for success is to get a QB on a rookie contract. The big question is, does Jefferson want to wait til that happens.
