ORIGINAL: David F. Could we scrape by in 2023 with Cousins at qb, Jefferson, KJ, Nailor and a cheap FA at wr, Hock at TE, wangwu and chandler at rb, the best OT tandem in the nfl, ezra, ingram at G and a mid-tier FA center? I think we could. On the defensive side though... Dantzler, Booth, bynam, and evans at CB, Hunter, Jones, and wonnum at DE/OLB, Lynch, and Tonga and a FA DT, Metallus and a FA safety? I suppose we could sprinkle in our first-rounder as a possible starter at a position of need. It looks scary but maybe it could work? Harrison Phillips will be on the roster and you left out ILBs. Sure 'maybe' it could work, but really it's a defense only in the technical sense that there are 11 people lining up on defense. On offense, same old Cousins, unknowns at RB, crap IOL, and a RT with an achilles tear late in the year. Let's hope Darrisaw doesn't get concussed. Yeah I whipped that post together on the quick and wasn't very thorough. The question I was getting to was: Could we field a serviceable team in 2023 with what would be left after the cuts, after the draft, and after a few FA pickups? If we win some games - great! If we lose a bunch of games then maybe we enter 2024 with a solid amount of cap space to help the D and IOL, two elite tackles, the best WR in the game, the third best (second?) TE in the game, some other 2nd-7th round picks, and a shiny new Caleb Williams at QB? The answer is yes, no matter who is wheeled out we will have a serviceable team in 2023. Functional and usable, complying with NFL and NFLPA policy.
