Spielman doled this contract to a 32 year old

Can we call Spielman and fire him again

Edit: Kwesi turned 6ml into a signing bonus last season so whatever his dead cap hit was add 6ml to.

Note to the Wilfs. Short-termism is an obvious downside to a GM on tenuous footing. They try to maximize their own future prospects at the expense of the team's long-term success.

It's past time to bottom out, clean up the cap and start a rebuild. But, I fear instead they will re-up Cousins and push the cap problem out farther and up higher.

Having just made the playoffs, the organization has the fans exactly where they want them. A move or two and, with seven months between games, most of the fans will think this is the year. People suffer from amnesia from January to August. Vikings' fans desperately want to believe this is the year.

Watch this site for a prime example. After the loss to the Giants, people were destroyed and understood there was no chance of this team ever winning unless they improved the defense. Reality set in. On a scale of 1-to-10, pessimism was at a 9.5. After draft day it will be at 5.5. When the season starts it will be at 3. It only takes Viking fans about seven months for most to completely forget how bad the season ended. I've been watching it in here for two decades now. Right around August 1 some well-wisher will be in here posting the schedule and giving the Vikings 15 wins. They will completely forget that the Vikings were 11-0 in one score games heading into the playoffs, with almost no chance of repeating that feat in 2023.

With no real hope of major changes due to the Cousins situation, this team will not reach .500 next season. You heard it here first. I like Brian Flores, but he has no chance with this collection of talentless hacks.

Won't be me next season.
I'm retired from being a sucker.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/27/2023 9:04:44 AM)

So, would a person now, before just about any off-season moves have been made, bet the Vikings will or will not, win more than 8 games?

Hm: SF, TB, NO, SD, KC, gb, chi, det
Aw: Cinn, Phil, Car, Atl, Oak, Den, gb, chi, det

Itll be interesting to see the over/under number.

What would a person so sure of next year's results be willing to bet?

Vegas is very good at that. My guess is the Vikings will be set at 8.5 wins.

The two apps I use to bet on don't have season Over Unders out yet. I am sure some places have them available.

Right, I checked FanDual and there was nothing. I bet a dollar on 10 teams last year and won 6. I wouldn't be surprised to see your 8.5 be the number

I like to bet a few dollars on the teams to win super bowl. I go only as deep as I can and still win money if any of them actually win it. Crazy KC was 10-1 to win super bowl last year.

Guessing Season Over / Unders will not come out to the big casinos until the QB shuffle is settled. KC will no doubt be overwhelming favorites. They lose nobody and Mahomes is the best QB in the leauge and frankly the second best QB is so far back it's an insult to Mahomes to call whoever it is the 2nd best.

I made several bets early on teams to win the SB, too. If MN would have won I would of made $40 off a $1 bet. I had a nice payday waiting for me if Det and NYJ made the playoffs. I had a few moments of hope - not much more.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/27/2023 11:10:43 AM)

Last year the Vikings were at an over/under of 9 1/2

I thought they would win at least 11 games, that it was an easy bet. It was, but a lot of things can happen, a lot of things could go wrong.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/27/2023 11:16:28 AM)

Right now, for next season, with the tough schedule, it appears the under might be a decent bet (but still not sure if it will be 8 1/2, or 9 1/2 maybe higher).

Going against that, it will be Kirk's 2nd year in the same system. You get a full year with Hock, barring injury, Flores is likely an improvement over Donatell, but we still don't know a lot about the personnel.

While I think the under is a decent bet, Kirk can play all right in the regular season. It's entirely possible the Vikings once again win a ton of games by just one score.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/27/2023 11:25:10 AM)

It's going to be 9.5. You HAVE to bet $100. What d' got?

Just curious... how accurate was your 2022 season prediction at the same time last year?

Writing things in stone in Feb seems a little premature.

Food for thought

If Erin retires Cousins will be the oldest starting qb in the league.

But let's ext him and reassemble the geriatric band and run it back one more time.

You may want to edit this one.

Older than Kirk. Rodgers, Ryan, Stafford, Tannehill a couple months older, Kirk, then Wilson who is only a couple months younger.

No matter what you say about a Kirk Extension....look at the Wilson one.

Most posters are pretty realistic and yes in general sort of bump up expectations a bit by Sept. Now, for a few (not most) every damn free agent and draftee is projected to be this and that, and boy with a fast start HFA is going to be a real option on yet another "deep SB run".

As an adult being a fan includes looking at the team subjectively, the good and bad. Kids can wear the purple shades 24/7/365. If adult posters choose to, only to be 'deflated' for the millionth time or conjure up their yearly dumb-ass excuses, they are pretty foolish in my book.

That said, I have just some hope that Flores can turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. I have zero hope Cousins will suddenly play like the team leader when he needs to. I'm neutral on Kwesi, but returns from last offseason are crap.

But yeah, for him to blast most of the board as if he has some dynamic news shows he's got his.... well, whatever. Condescending, good word choice there.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/28/2023 9:33:13 AM)

Don’t worry Brad..

The reality is that we are in cap hell, with overpaid, slow, physically degrading buy the day, veteran “ fan favorites”, that are tied to the concept of almost..good enough..

KAM was given a 4 year contract..so he is in self preservation mode angling for an extension..his moves as GM reek of desperation to keep the owners satisfied with competitive…

He threw a second round pick at a 1 year rental tight end who was quite possibly the second best receiver on the team.

Now we have to pay him his value or find a replacement..

We , fans who have seen and paid attention, to how and why the current crop of actual super bowl contenders have what it takes to be the elite teams, in either conference, know that this team is no even close to that level.

One and done is the mantra of contented fan/ cows with a short history of this teams franchise history.

The game has changed.

Bigger, stronger player at all positions is the new normal.

Speed and football IQ is critical.

We have a serious lack of all of the above on both sides of the team we field.

Rag doll offensive line men.. a slow read progression QB, a running back who is past his prime and needs reconstruction of his primary hand shoulder…old slow safety, linebackers who can not cover the middle or flat routes, or dominate run support from one side of the formation to the other…a#2 receiver who has glass ankles and zero yac. A kicker who inexplicably misses extra points the can’t seem to kick the ball off a tee with a run up, over 65 yards, every single time…

The number of things “ wrong”, with this franchise, from a powerfully competitive and fearsome, “ nobody wants to see them on their schedule “ point of view, is enormous.

Last years draft was a fail.. in every sense of the word.

Cap hell and contracts to over the hill and mediocre players, are a full set of cement shoes, pants, gloves and overcoat on franchise greatness , while standing on October ice in the middle of any of 10,000 lakes.

But hey, that’s just my 55 years of watching, opinion.

Exhibit A for ‘Site Sociopath’.

Any sports fan with a genuine emotional investment in any sports team is going to cycle through expectations …

But you’d have to be genuinely invested to grasp that. For you, this is just an intellectual exercise. Without the intellect.

Condescending tool.

You can hope for 13-4 and tear parts of the team to the studs.....give Kwesi another offseason. I didn't believe we could win the division going into last year.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/28/2023 3:51:08 PM)

Kwesi gave a clinic today at the combine on "Dancing, worming, shilly-shallying, pussyfooting 101"
https://www.si.com/nfl/vikings/news/vikings-kwesi-adofo-mensah-justin-jefferson-brian-flores-more-nfl-combine

On Cousins:

"Let’s go all the way numbers, let’s go full numbers," Adofo-Mensah said. "So, we talk about necessary and sufficient conditions, right, in math. And so a necessary condition is having a starter-level quarterback, a quarterback of above a certain threshold. Now that doesn’t mean for sure you’re going to win, that’s not the only thing you need, but that is one of the things you need, right? So having a good-level quarterback is a necessary condition. Kirk meets that threshold, so we know that. OK, well now how do you build the rest of the team around him to make sure that you can win in that way? Different quarterbacks require different things around them, but we know that for sure, he meets that threshold.

How long does he meet that threshold? Those are things we’ve got to answer. Is there a chance to add somebody maybe with different skill sets? Those are all questions we’ve got to answer, so there’s not one right way, but I do know one thing, I know he is good enough, he meets that first threshold, and that’s a question that a lot of people can’t answer with a yes, so we’ve got to make sure we treat that in the proper importance that it is."

Online KAM-speak translator:

sufficient / starter-level quarterback / above a certain threshold / good level quarterback = Cousins = one year placeholder.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/28/2023 4:24:41 PM)

He definitely has the "word salad" part of the job down.

It works well for Falvey.

You mean how he's kept his job for so long without having any meaningful success?
