Cousins' options:
- Trade him. Get something for him.
- He plays out his contract.

I don't think extending him (in the $35 million range) is even an option. O'Neill will be getting $20 million. Hock will get half a Brinks truck. Darrisaw will get an entire Brinks truck. JJ will get two of them.

Say roughly 20+12+20+28, or 80 million for those four. It goes to $115 with Cousins. Say $120-125 for those five (all offense) and dead cap.

Need a mobile QB on a rookie deal.

the rate we're going with o'neill's restructures, his cap will be at $25mm in two years....

And he's the second highest paid RT in the game (in avg/yr): https://overthecap.com/position/right-tackle

Hope his achilles tear (partial tear or whatever) heals. He is supposedly on track for week 1, per Dr. KOC.

Saints were $24 million over before signing Carr.

The guys on nfl radio tonight said that if you look at the guaranteed money, carr’s deal will play out like a 3 year 100 mil contract so about 33 per year. The 50 million in year 4 doesn’t have a single penny guaranteed so the likelihood of that ever getting paid is slim to none.

No, how about 3/25 to back up and mentor who ever we draft.

The sooner he's gone with his big cap number the better.

Hell. I'd take a second round pick for him without hesitation. If we can get more great.

@JimNagy_SB
Anthony Richardson is an immensely talented physical specimen yet significant roll-of-dice at same time. There’s no nuance to the Richardson eval yet TV networks will debate it for next two months. April is going to be brutal.

- It's going to be interesting following Richardson's play in the NFL - not so much the debate on TV

I agree.

Cousins is a great litmus test ... to determine if this regime is going to be a better than the last one ...

or are they just going to recycle what was handed to them ... keeping in mind that they are reusing the butt end of the Spielman Zimmer regime, not the 2017 version.

At this point, Cousins is nothing more than a relic from the Spielman Zimmer era. They failed Cousins and Cousins failed them. Whether you are pro-KC or anti-KC, he is simply not the future of this franchise ... so why continue to operate like he is?

I'm not saying its an easy decision, Cousins guarantees a healthy, productive player at the position ... albeit wildly streaky and timid in big games.

If Kwesi and Kevin are satisfied with a placeholder QB or worse, extend him beyond 2023 ... that tells me they are gutless and trying to move forward as risk aversely as Cousins himself. Better the devil you know, etc.

I'm saying if another team makes a poor decision, you don't have to do the same.

I would not be happy if the Vikings gave Carr or Cousins that deal.

This would likely eliminate the only real potential trade partner for Cousins:

The Jets and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a conversation Monday, sources with knowledge of the discussion but not authorized to speak publicly confirmed to The Athletic. Here’s what you need to know:

• Rodgers, 39, still hasn’t made a decision about his future in the NFL.

• The Packers have given Rodgers permission to speak with the Jets, according to a report from the NFL Network, since Rodgers is still under contract with the Packers.

• The Jets hired former Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator in January. Hackett coached Rodgers in his most recent MVP seasons.

When I think of Rodgers leaving the NFC North my initial feeling is one of 'good riddance'. The more I think it over though I start to wish he stays. The dude is getting worse, getting older, and the GB fans are starting to dislike him. In that vein I say keep starting him for many more seasons.

If they trade him to the Jets they will likely get this year's first and next year's first. This year's first is the #13 pick and Green Bay already has #15. If they package those two picks and throw in a high pick from 2024 they could likely have their pick of the QBs for this year and they'd have Jordan Love to start in 2023 while their top QB prospect develops. If either Love or the guy they pick in the draft turns out to be good then they're set at QB, yet again, for years.

I'd rather they keep Rodgers and let that mess play out as he crosses into age 40.

If he stays it will mess things up greatly for the future of the Packers indeed.

He will NOT retire. Here's why: Tom Brady. If they both retired this year, they would presumably have to share the stage when it comes time for HOF induction. I don't think Aaron's ego would be able to handle being second fiddle on his HOF induction day.

To be honest. I couldn't give a shit either way. retire. be traded or stay. I really don't care.

Each has its benefits.

If he stays, it's as you say above
If he is traded, He's gone from the division and there is no guarantee that whomever they draft will work out in the long run the way Favre and Rodgers did.
If he retires, he's gone for good.

I'm ok with any of those scenarios.
