Za's dead cap to cap savings ratio changed significantly in the last day or two. Maybe it was corrected, I don't know, but now his dead cap is quite a bit more and cap savings less.

All arrows point toward keeping him.

I'd just use him as a pass rush specialist being he isn't good against the run and has trouble staying healthy for a full season. He's extremely effective getting pressure when he lines up inside.

Ok maybe he's a burger. A plain hamburger.

Possibly a raw onion could be added.

Lowry can do everything Tomlinson can at a third of the price.

Thats exactly right. We are trying to hit the sweetspot above last year’s team without further handcuffing ourselves financially.

I like the bits and pieces so far, I like the 1-2 year contracts which seem fair to me … we’ll see what Flores brings to the table but atleast he has a few more colors to smash through his playdough mold.

The Shelley, Cook and Zad non-decisions, if they stay that way, are troubling … but still a whole offseason left for retooling.

I'm guessing Shelly and his agent are shopping around for some money.

I think Cook surgery is holding up a trade.

ZAD is a guy Flores wants around(if rumors are true). Brought in Davenport to lighten load(snaps) on him and Hunter.

Gotta be hard to shop a guy that was cut from a very good passing D and looked decent for the worst. How do even try to highlight that?

???

Shelley being shopped.

Yeah. Hopefully he isn't getting any interest.

Vikes could give him 2yrs. at 2 to 3 per year. He played well for the most part.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2023 1:35:11 PM)

All in all, fine with the new acquisitions and re-signings so far except:

- IMO Davenport was too pricy. Would guess Flores had a big say in wanting him.
- Oliver with a $3.5M cap hit looks ok, but his contract jumps next year and he'll have almost $5M in dead cap if released. Good for now; curious how he will help the running game and how he and Hock will fare together.
- Too late, but why not just take the pain this year with Cousins' conversion to create a cleaner slate in the outyears.
- Hicks, why?

- What was the deal with Tomlinson... did keeping him on board for a week or two to try to make a deal create $7.5M in dead cap?
- Don't know Harrison Smith's whole contract, but it looks like it is going to impact the cap down the road one way or the other. I don't think there was/is much that can be done. A puss filled scab. Spielman was insane.

Za and Cook are up in the air. Hopefully Ham too.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2023 6:23:46 PM)

15 receivers off the board in the 1st wave. A shit ton left over trying to find their market.

Wonder if there's some awkwardly silent dinners in the Thielen household.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2023 6:26:57 PM)

Adam's probably staring down a 2 year 8 million $ deal.

I'm gonna make a difference Caitlyn...

Maybe he'll be back ... wouldn't bet on it, though

Who the hell is Dean Lowry and why did we just give him $8.5-million over two years?

You can get a Lowry-type the day after the draft for the bare minimum.

Lowry started on these defense (ranked by points against):
2019 9th
2020 13th
2021 13th
2022 17th

Ranking out particularly well against the run... which the Vikes sucked at last year.

I'd beg to differ that 4mil is an egregious overspend.
You need guys in the trenches and he was fairly cheap.

He's the out-of-touch guy... "4 million! Why back in my day you could buy the whole damn team for that! Next thing you know they will be FLYING to games!"

Adam Thielen's deal with the Panthers is worth $25 million over three years, a source said. Thielen will get $10 million this year.

It depends on how much is guaranteed. If only $14 mil is guaranteed it will play out like a 2yr/$14 mil deal.

I thought he'd be lucky to get 5 per.

Not much competition this year for WR.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 7:34:22 AM)

One site shows we are $8 million over the cap for the top 51, while every other team is under. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/

Another shows we are $9 million over, with just TB a bit over. Maybe it also includes 64 players. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space

$2 million of Lowry's cap was stashed in void years.

Credit card Kwesi!

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 7:50:30 AM)

Back in the day, Brzez was cutting edge and innovative. Now he's just some decrepit burnout floundering around the hallways yelling "Void years!".

Meanwhile, banks are closing Kwesi's credit card accounts because his credit rating is 503.

It's not Brez. It was Spielman. He was the one agreeing to all these terrible contracts. Once the years and guaranteed money was agreed to, he dumped it on Brez to find a way to make it fit.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 8:09:15 AM)

I'm sure they worked on contracts together before they were even offered but Brez was the find a way guy and Spielman choosing who to find a way for. Completely misguided to put it on Brez.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 8:36:47 AM)

Rumor from ‘skolbros’ on Twitter is that Dalvin has already been cut or traded - just hasn’t been announced yet. Skolbros, in the past, has been very accurate in his news. Maybe that’s why we appear to be over the cap. Who knows?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 8:38:17 AM)

Let's not go apeshit, yes I know it was Spielman and Brzez was and is the guy forced to make it happen.

Brzez, probably integral in every contract, is untouchable [&o]

He has Mattison as the lead back. He never says how or why just the end result.

I'm starting to wonder if there is a method to the madness.

We are able to cut dead weight(AT, Kendricks, possibly Cook), make some noise in free agency, and still have $60M(2024) and 186M(2025)cap space for future.

And stay competitive and hopefully draft QBOTF this year.

Over The Cap has us 9M over without counting HSmith's re-structure. All other FAs are counted.

Who was going apeshit? You described Brez as "some decrepit burnout floundering around the hallways yelling "Void years!". A little harsh for someone who is not calling the shots. Yes, I'm sure Brez spells out all of the options on how to make a contract fit, but his role is essentially the juggler who has six balls in the air and Spielman randomly tosses in an anvil.

Why do so many push to draft the QBOTF this year. By all accounts this is crap draft at QB.
