Rumor from ‘skolbros’ on Twitter is that Dalvin has already been cut or traded - just hasn’t been announced yet. Skolbros, in the past, has been very accurate in his news. Maybe that’s why we appear to be over the cap. Who knows?

He has Mattison as the lead back. He never says how or why just the end result.

Over The Cap has us 9M over without counting HSmith's re-structure. All other FAs are counted.

I wonder if they are waiting until June 1 to make the deal official. The relief vs dead cap is a lot better at that point.

All in all, fine with the new acquisitions and re-signings so far except:

- IMO Davenport was too pricy. Would guess Flores had a big say in wanting him.
- Oliver with a $3.5M cap hit looks ok, but his contract jumps next year and he'll have almost $5M in dead cap if released. Good for now; curious how he will help the running game and how he and Hock will fare together.
- Too late, but why not just take the pain this year with Cousins' conversion to create a cleaner slate in the outyears.
- Hicks, why?

- What was the deal with Tomlinson... did keeping him on board for a week or two to try to make a deal create $7.5M in dead cap?
- Don't know Harrison Smith's whole contract, but it looks like it is going to impact the cap down the road one way or the other. I don't think there was/is much that can be done. A puss filled scab. Spielman was insane.

Za and Cook are up in the air. Hopefully Ham too.

Queasy trying to have it both ways, play the middle. Be semi-competitive now and we'll likely mediocre for the long run. You won't likely get the QBOTF playing it half way and drafting 15-25 every year.

Let's not go apeshit, yes I know it was Spielman and Brzez was and is the guy forced to make it happen.

Brzez, probably integral in every contract, is untouchable [&o]

Who was going apeshit? You described Brez as "some decrepit burnout floundering around the hallways yelling "Void years!". A little harsh for someone who is not calling the shots. Yes, I'm sure Brez spells out all of the options on how to make a contract fit, but his role is essentially the juggler who has six balls in the air and Spielman randomly tosses in an anvil.

Relax...

Back in the day, Brzez was cutting edge and innovative. Now he's just some decrepit burnout floundering around the hallways yelling "Void years!".

Meanwhile, banks are closing Kwesi's credit card accounts because his credit rating is 503.

I'm starting to wonder if there is a method to the madness.

We are able to cut dead weight(AT, Kendricks, possibly Cook), make some noise in free agency, and still have $60M(2024) and 186M(2025)cap space for future.

And stay competitive and hopefully draft QBOTF this year.

Why do so many push to draft the QBOTF this year. By all accounts this is crap draft at QB.

Explain that more please. There are 4 qbs that will likely go in the top 10 picks this year. Last year only 1 went in the entire first round.

Carolina is going to find out what thielen can produce in his 30’s without a Diggs or Jefferson lined up with him.

I honestly think AI will take over for team's "Cap expert" in the next 3-5 years.

AI growth is going to be exponential.

I expect him to come out strong with a real energy about him and make some plays. How he looks from week 10 on will probably tell a different story.

Last year when there was no QB worth a top 10 it was all about this year with Stroud vs Young 1 or 2...plus others. Now it's wait for next year. What happened?

Uh, being slotted at #23 and out of the reach of the top 3 picks?

I was challenging "crap draft for QB"

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 10:14:16 AM)

At some point we need to keep trying to get a decent QB on a rookie deal..

Mond didn’t work out..

Bridgewater almost lost a leg.

Ponder was a bust..

Big deal..

Keep trying..

Someday perhaps our franchise will luck into a Brady or Favre or Rogers..

If you don’t even try, your odds of hitting that hidden gem are ZERO.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 10:14:29 AM)

I agree, and want QBOTF in the 2024 draft, probably Caleb Williams.

Probably need to go 1-16 or 2-5 to get him.

Another hope is the team with the #1 overall pick already has their QBOTF and would love to get Justin Jefferson as part of a package to swap picks.

I think the early favorites to be awful next year are Arizona and Carolina. Both would take Williams in a heartbeat.

Carolina will have Bryce Young or CJ Stroud. They won't take a QB even if age-28 Tom Brady enters the draft. Well... maybe then.

So they resign Mattison, add a blocking TE, and add 3 defenders in the 25-28 age range----obviously aren't in the rebuilding stage. In what reality is the JJ trade happening to move up to get a QBOTF? Also JJ, TJ, and Darrisaw are still on their rookie contracts. I don't know why you guys are doing this to yourself.

People say that every single year.

I think its people afraid to draft QBs. By all accounts, this seems to be a pretty strong year to draft a QB...

If a GM is convinced Caleb Williams will have a career on par with Mahomes you trade Jefferson in a heartbeat to make it happen.

I would give 10 future first round picks for Mahomes, he is that good. They lose a top 5 WR and win the Super Bowl.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 11:41:07 AM)

Thielen's contract details are out on spotrac.com. Signing bonus of $8.335 million and first year salary of $1.165 million = $10 million to him in year 1. Year 2, if he's still on the team he'll get $8.250 million so the deal will play out like a two-year, $18.250 million contract. Cap hits are $3.332 million for 2023, $9.917 million for year 2, and $8.417 million in year 3 and two void years totaling another $5 million. The panthers can cut Thielen after 2024 for just $5 million of dead cap.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/adam-thielen-13071/

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 12:03:02 PM)

Just from the clips I have seen, none of the top 4 QBs in this draft are appealing, I would take Kenny Pickett over all 4, and would only take a chance on Anthony Richardson if he fell to 23 (he seems raw).

Again..JJ on a rookie contract that you would trade to get a QB on a rookie contract. JJ is a 30 million/year WR. 10 future 1st rounders? Glad you aren't a GM.

No team would do that...they would just trade picks and a player like Carolina did but DJ isn't JJ and they way overpaid.

Vikings are rumored to possibly be a landing spot for Lamar Jackson:

https://share.newsbreak.com/3d1nyl5d

Any thoughts on Jackson ?

I haven't seen him play much, but would be more excited than with what Kirk brings. What I don't like with Jackson is the huge contract and what it may take in draft capital.
