Yeah ... QB and CB are our two obvious priorities in the draft but I'm not selling my soul for one regardless of what else is available.

IMO Osborn is no shoo-in for a solid #2 and Powell Reagor Nailor should be competing for #5 or #6. So WR will get some attention in this draft ...

There is an argument for strengthening your strength while your weakness catches up. If it ever does.

Where exactly did Thielen come from again? UDFA walk on?

With limited draft capital, spending any of it on a late round body for tc is pointless.

There are literally hundreds of WR wannabes who will not get drafted..

We got beat or at least bruised badly, many a time, by nobodies like cooper rush, Daniel Jones, and meh running backs having fun gashing the defense with drive sustaining, defense wearing, runs on second, third and fourth downs.

KFC is a boat anchor on playoff wins. Period.

Flores need to patch a run defense and passing defense that Swiss cheese looks air tight comparatively..

I don’t see WR as a need.

I see KFC’s replacement as The biggest need..

Cap sucking, cap rotting, into the future albatross, on the entire franchise.

I might as well be pissing off the bow of an aircraft carrier at flank speed into the North Atlantic in January..

Yes, limited capital. Yes, QB a critical need. Yes, CB nd defense a critical need. Yes, IOL still a very big need.

Yes, Wr much less of a need ... I just don't agree its a late round body away from being a non-need.

I don't know. There are really only two positions that would bum out with our first rd pick ... rb or te ... I guess OT would be a head scratcher.

"After a league investigation, receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore of the Detroit Lions and defensive end Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders were suspended indefinitely for betting on N.F.L. games last season. The players can petition the league for reinstatement after the 2023 season.

Two other Lions players, receivers Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams, were each suspended for six games for other gambling violations, which the team said included betting from an N.F.L. facility on other sporting events."....new york times

I see KFC’s replacement as The biggest need..

Which my plan of doing like Washington (RGIII/Cousins), and going something like Richardson (1st) and DTR (4th) is worth a shot.

I'll take one QB, two is desirable but meets the criteria for several deadly sins ... greed, envy, gluttony, lust ... ok more than a few.

Kwesi is just too much of a goody two shoes (Ferragamo) to go that route.

I think 'freak athlete' should not be at the top of the list for QB prospect. Richardson is intriguing but I'll give away some of that athleticism, not all, for the purer passing ability of Levis or Hooker.

Like a lot of people in here, I also like DTR.

Jeff Allen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/22/2023 3:04:07 PM)

Things I would sign off on the Vikings doing this week...

Trade Cousins for Lance and a high pick. If Lance is not the answer the team finishes 4-13 and gets a good QB next year.

Identify the QB they like best and trade up and get him!

Trade back and draft Hendon Hooker in late first.

PLEASE do not WASTE a freaking 3rd or 4th round pick on some third tier QB ala TJack and Kellen Mond. It RARELY works! If this DTR guy was any good he would be picked in the first round. I said the same thing a few years ago...Vikings should have traded up to get Justin Fields (if they liked him) and not wasted a pick on Kellen Mond.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/22/2023 3:28:08 PM)

DTR is supposed to be a 3rd or 4th rounder, but I think he will be drafted in the 2nd round, maybe even end of the 1st round.

Nope.

Since most teams carry 2 QBs on the roster and one on the PS … and its a tough position to hit on …

Franchise players, backups, developmental …

the more the merrier.

I wouldn't be upset if they did this Marty but would prefer Richardson and using the 4th on something like CB or a lineman on either side.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/23/2023 7:58:58 AM)

It's going to be Hooker #23 unless someone snakes us.

Not sure it means anything but I've read he's ahead of schedule.

Have you ever even watched Robinson play? He is awful.

Not in highlight videos!

The draft profile jumps from …

Limp noodle arm
Squirmy in the pocket
Lazy eye for just one target per play

-to-

Throws ballistic missiles with pinpoint accuracy
Stalks the pocket like Conan the Barbarian
Sees the whole field, the stands and the parking lot at a glance

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/23/2023 11:04:37 AM)

Yes, DTR looks fantastic in highlights.

Are they misleading ? Is he pretty awful at times ?

His offensive line didn't look the greatest, but he looked quick and accurate in the highlights. I suppose there must be some reasons he's not projected to go in the first couple of rounds.

I will defer to someone that's seen him play in full games.

Thoughts on Trey Lance...should the Vikings trade for him?

No, Hendon Hooker much better prospect. Not even close in comparison. I was shocked that the 49ers paid so much in draft picks for him. See pre-draft review of Trey Lance here: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/trey-lance/32004c41-4e01-6787-f7d5-ee3cea053121

Have you compared the Hooker and Lance draft profiles for yourself? Not that they mean a lot.

Or did I misread you ... you meant that Hooker is not close by comparison?

Lance's main drawbacks were lack of experience and being young ... which have been somewhat mitigated by now.

www.nfl.com/prospects/trey-lance/32004c41-4e01-6787-f7d5-ee3cea053121
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/hendon-hooker/3200484f-4f29-7694-9fe6-58ca0d039d74
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/anthony-richardson/32005249-4338-7833-9fd1-1d5e168eb504

Again, we have no idea what it would take to move up or down or trade for any of these prospects ... but just on the basis of QB skills (not freak athleticism) I would take Lance, Hooker before Richardson.

I'll be very disappointed if we don't take a QB in the first two rds. or trade for one.

Lance is a better athlete but Hooker is the better passer without a doubt. Very accurate with quick release. For whatever reason, QBs like Lance and Fields are being overrated because of their athletic abilities. Still a QB's primary job is throwing the ball. Also, before injury Hooker was a Heisman candidate and played against top-level talent. Hooker reminds me of Jeff George without the bad judgement/attitude. I am just a fan and do not claim any special football knowhow. As someone that got signed black/white pictures of Bill Brown and Dave Osborne when I was a kid I have watched a lot of football and think that Hooker is the real deal if healthy. I would not trade up for him, but if he is there at 23rd pick and no other stud has dropped to that point I would pick him.

Lets not waste time with Trey Lance. Also, there is real uncertainty with his injury too.

'Moving on from Rodgers does put a significant dent in Green Bay's ability to make too many roster upgrades. The three-year, $150.8 million extension he signed in March 2022 has a $99.8 million dead-cap hit for 2023.

The Packers were already $9.5 million over the cap when the offseason began. General manager Brian Gutekunst will have to do a lot of maneuvering just to have the ability to sign draft picks, let alone free agents.'....adam wells - bleacher report

Totally agree sfrank. That includes the constant camera coverage game time of his every move & facial expression.
I feel the same way about the incessant Tiger Woods journalistic coverage too.

Post-Rodgers, Spotrac shows GB is 14th in cap space with $12.6M. Minnesota is 30th (Top 51) at a measly $1.9M, with only TB and NYJ below them.

I think they can spread out the dead cap. Not sure though.

Bakhtari probably gone after the draft. He's a Rodgers guy and has taken a few shots at the organization.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/

They show $40M in dead cap in 2023. Since FA is mostly over, their $12M in space seems fine, i.e. they probably don't need to spread out the dead cap even if they are allowed to (like you, not sure).

Then there is Credit Card Kwesi. Or is it Void Year Kwesi?

I'd think if he was all that, SF would want to keep him.

Especially considering Purdy is no sure thing to be ready to start the season. And even if he is, he's hardly proven he's the guy long-term.
