Scoring by halves

O
1st half: 9th
2nd half: 22nd

D
1st half: 16th
2nd half: 13th

Looking for potential early indicators. Still too early to conclude anything. For example, the Philly game (24 first half points, zero second half points) greatly affects the defensive rankings.

What % have we run 3-4 vs 4-3?

Just run less and blitz more.

Guess the question would be how effective are the blitzes so far?

Maybe Donatell knows he doesn't have the secondary to cover so he keeps more people back. Peterson and Harrison Smith look done as far as speed. They will make some plays based on guile and experience.

I am leaning this way too

I really don't think PP can cover deep anymore

Not sure there is an answer

We will see

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:16:37 AM)

I don't know the answer either but I'd like one that doesn't see Hunter 20 yards downdield against a TE...

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:22:54 AM)

All the power rankings that have us at 4 are right...14ish...they should be shot. Maybe just fired but I'm in a mood.

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:30:45 AM)

Eddie blows!! I cant get my hopes up. He will crush us with his Taco Bell coverage. Defense should not played scared most of the time. I dont think KOC will call him out. Especially as they keep winning.

KOC still working out bugs. There are signs ... PP is done. Love his knowledge, love his mentorship, but he is exposed a lot.

Maybe Booth by the end of the season. After bye? getting some snaps.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:41:04 AM)

16 and 13 isn't bad, but playing only 1 top QB skews those numbers.

KOC will have to realize at some point that Donatell is making his offense work harder, and is hampering the overall success of the team.

Talk of us facing Miami's #3...doubt it.

Teddy would have returned to last week's game pre Tua...so even though he's in protocol he's good to go.

Which is fine. Teddy can dink and dunk for some yards but he's not dynamic enough to hurt us on the scoreboard.

Especially with Waddle and Hill both dinged up.

I've never been one to need W's to come against teams at their best.

If we get the W here I'll smile and move along.

It is weird. Zimmer had all the pieces and his defenses couldn't defend end of halfs and were ranked near the bottom. Its Early, Donatell doensn't have all the pieces, KOC said it would be a work in process, results are better than Zimm defenses and you want him fired?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:49:30 AM)

The results are better because they're facing 2nd string QBs, and the offense has been scoring a decent amount of points early on.

It may be better for now, but it may be what holds the team back from being a contender.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:50:44 AM)

Does O'Connell just draw up the plays, or is he also calling the plays for the offense ?

Really?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:55:08 AM)

A lot of players play just a little bit better against their former teams, so I would rather not face Teddy, at least not on the road.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:56:08 AM)

Sorry Todd, I really don't know. I am guessing O'Connell calls them, but am not sure. It was a serious question.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 10:58:07 AM)

You should know.

And we've faced ONE back up QB.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 11:03:22 AM)

You'd have to forget all the write up when he was hired, all the talk of it here and not have watched a single game.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 11:15:52 AM)

I assume O'Connell is calling the plays, but I didn't know for sure.

If he is, he's doing an amazing job at creating plays, to and calling them.

I stand corrected on backup QBs.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 11:34:10 AM)

His play calling is great. Could get to elite.

I love the hurry up...Cousins to the line early...backing off...calling audibles...and not running every time I expect. Tons of PA.

I know he designed the plays in St Louis for McVay to call...but I doubt he's extended that to his OC in KOC's 1st year. Don't know though. If he's doing both...kudos to him.

Teddy has so many former teams, he should be all pro

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 11:40:48 AM)

Yes! Fire him.. but it wont happen. KOC gave up too much control to this moron. ok guys line up 18 yards back and dont let those little rascals get behind u.

Have you seen him talk, omg he is so behind the times.

not a great picture i see. do well, get to playoffs. lose because of soft shell eddie. but, they did so good. playoffs..new system... lets give it another year.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2022 11:59:46 AM)

But KOC seems like a smart guy, you'd think he'd start to notice at some point that Donatell's schemes are holding his team back.

Who here would be for going for 2 like the Raiders did with 4 min left in the game?

i was at the vikings-rams game in anaheim, 1985 - with the score 13-10 rams, bud grant went for the td/win from the 1-yard line on the final play of the game...nelson didn't make it....

Scores by half doesn't have much to do with the QB, because it's the same QB both halves. Was thinking halftime adjustments, coming out slow, gaining momentum, etc. Single game within the game stuff.

KOC, and Kwesi, also know the league and future possible coordinators would alert to giving up on and firing the DC in less than a half season, in the first year of an entirely new regime, with a new scheme in place, and without the proper personnel to run it after a single cap-strapped offseason. Top draft picks Cine and Booth not seeing the field can't help matters.

OTOH it would be a bold move.

Not seeing it.

Who were the pieces in the starting lineup Donatell had a say in getting (Maybe Phillips, Hicks and the draft picks)? It will take some time.
