Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 9:36:49 AM)

Couldn't watch the game at home. Read the game day thread a little bit - for the first half ...

then cancelled meeting up with some friends who were at a bar (to watch the second half).

I cannot believe that we're 5-1 and I'm not more excited. It feels like a 3-3 or worse team to me.

Maybe I'll use the money I saved on a garden hose.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 9:40:10 AM)

Tyreke Hill had a quiet 177 yards. Waddle a quiet 129.

Cousins had a quiet 5.8 yards per attempt, lol. Skywalker ended up at 6.8. Teddy, 9.7 ypa.

Irv Smith, 4 targets and 4 catches! Averaged 1.8 yards per catch. Way better than Mundt who averaged 0.5 ypc on 2 for 2. Masterful.

Meanwhile, a few Minny defenders were able to add to their stat totals with the assistance of playing backup QBs.

That's actually more than I thought we were getting on those TE passes.

KG, you're not going to see a post from me saying the Packers now suck, I don't believe it's a good idea to kick a dog when it's down. As I stated in another thread, the only year the Packers won the SB, is when they were an underdog as a wildcard team.

I don't block posters, so I read Bill's stupid comments, and usually just ignore them.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 9:47:02 AM)

What do people make of Cook's TD run as far as speed? I've been saying he hasn't lost his speed. Ironically, in that run I presume people think oh looks like he has the jets after all but IMO he had a great quick burst yet lacked his former top-end gear. Not saying he was ever a blazer, but it looked more like he held on while the defenders were tracking him down. IMO they would have caught him in another 10 yards or so. Maybe they are all fast.

LOL, that had to be intentional.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 9:50:54 AM)

KG, some people were saying I was crazy when I said before the season started that the Vikings would win a minimum of 11 games this season.

I now stated they would only need to go 6-5 for that to be right. So I now believe they will win 12 or 13 games in the regular season.

The Vikings have won 2 games I didn't think they would win before the season started (GB and at Miami). Most things have played out as expected, but the Jets and Giants look better than expected, so those games may be winnable, but will likely be tougher than expected.

But the Vikings can be a VERY good team at home.

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 10:03:38 AM)

Very pleased with 5-1.

400 yards passing against Eddie's vaunted Taco Bell defense. PLEASE KOC address this!!

League should look into temperature difference, thats not ok. This is a multi Billion dollar league.

Crowd noise, fine but not that. protect the players remember commissioner.

KOC still has a long way to go as far as play calling. I hope this bye helps with reflection.

Z was a man on fire yesterday.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 10:49:39 AM)

KOC must be doing something right with play calling, the Vikings got more points than the Bills did there, and more importantly, WON the game in Miami.

Onto the next victim: Arizona Cardinals.

Home game, fast start, then help Donatell figure out how to close the door on a good, mobile QB.

What plays did you like best? The TE screens that averaged 0.75 yes per pass? The end of the first half when the interference penalty gave us the ball in a place where we could take two shots at the end zone before using our last time before trying a fg and he called a running play, burned his TO, then called a sideline pass.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 11:17:19 AM)

The plays I liked best were the ones you didn't mention TJ, the ones that worked.

The TE screens had the element of surprise, and had Kirk made a more fluent throw, and the TEs acted a little more like Kelce, they may have gotten first downs on them.

Who knows, maybe KOC will scratch some of the plays that didn't work well. Wouldn't that be neat ?

I didn't mind them getting a little conservative, on the road against a team with inferior QBs, and it worked well, led to a victory.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 11:20:21 AM)

While I expect a loss at Buffalo, I am hoping the Vikings at least give the Bills a little bit of a scare.

I want the Bills thinking the Vikings are the team they would NOT want to face in the Super Bowl. A team that gives them a scare in a home game, could be trouble in a neutral site.

That's the problem!

We need to just ask Kurt to act a little more like Mahomes!

I thought that cook, and the defenders, looked slow on that run. Could’ve been the heat. But it looked to me like they were all stuck in fourth gear.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 11:49:18 AM)

The Dolphins were blowing up the middle, so a TE screen is just another way of combatting that, and getting out the ball quickly.

Even if a play isn't successful, as Dan stated earlier, it can have the effect of making other plays effective. It can slow the pass rush, or a run up the gut can later set up play action. It also sets it up in future games.

There weren't a whole lot of those plays that worked, given the sheer volume of 3 and outs. Miami's defense ended the game with 4 times as many 3 and outs than when they started.

Call plays that don't work, so that other plays look good by comparison. Sheer genius.

If the Dolphins sell out to take away the middle, the idea is to call a play to the outside that actually works.

But not the Mahomes who's 3/4 arm flip interception into a double-covered receiver in the endzone on 3rd and goal of their first drive of the game, though

Holy shit!!!

Looked like it was 75 yards before it even landed

LOS was the 5, it landed at their 25, that's 70 yards right there, add another 10 from where he kicked it, 80 yards in the air.

If that's the trade off, I'll take a few of those plays.

that's interesting that reagor had the fastest speed during that 25 yard punt return yesterday...to the eye, i didn't think he looked that fast either, but he burned several would-be tacklers - at the moment i watched it, i commented that he looked 'sneaky fast'...21.25 miles per hour....

during his 53-yard scamper, cook did indeed run 20.25 mph..

I'll add to this, Jefferson ran 20.07 mph during his 47-yard reception....

the vikings had three players on the list of the top-ten fastest players of the day - reagor, cook, and jefferson....

.

The yardage was brutal but that's not the part that even bugs me. If we didn't get immediate pressure it was easy completions. Like, there is no Viking defender in the frame, easy.

One play had Kendricks about 30 yards downfield trying to stay with Waddle [:-]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 12:44:51 PM)

Another thing that reared its ugly head again. Bradbury and Ingram were getting totally blown up again. They have generally been better but it was a bad day yesterday.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/17/2022 12:54:10 PM)

My $0.02:

Always happy with a win - especially on the road!

The offensive ineptitude was horrible. We had excellent field position so many times and did nothing with it! Ugh!!

The DL played well - even if going up against a weaker OL.

Great play on the fake punt.

Not sure why MIA went for two on their last TD.

The weak defense at the end pissed me off. All of us holding our breath on that on-side kick....

Peterson played very well.

Great time for a bye week.

PS - the Puke?! LMFAO!!!!
