Mate is the guy I’m least impressed with (so he’ll probably be the best pro). And I’ve really come around on taking a shot at Penix. Especially if we can get him at our spot.

Williams, Daniels or Penix and I’m thrilled.

Same on Maye.

First 3 games, 4 TDs, 4 Ints
Last 3 games, 4 TDs, 4 Ints

A few days ago bstinger accused me of willing to take any QB regardless which I argued fiercely against.

I just don’t know anymore. I confess I’m almost there. The more you look at these guys the more I’d hate to burn draft picks to move up even a few spots.

I feel pretty hopeless and passive given that Kwesi and Kevin are choosing. Outside of blind luck, I can’t see them setting the foundation for a really good team.

I see Jameson Williams is out for Sunday, just as he was starting to come on. I was kind of hoping he’d flash in our game just to remind Kwesi how foolish it is to move around just for the sake of moving around.

Oh well, we’ll stick to our plan and prance around the draft room after our first pick … as bad an omen as there ever was.

Cine has been a BUST of epic proportion...
Essentially a ghost for 2 seasons!

That being said... if Big K had drafted a WR at spot 12 who managed
25 catches
395 yards
3 TDs

over those same 2 seasons.

I don't think Kwesi is getting a pass from the pitchfork crew. (me included)

You have the number 12 pick you need a playmaker, PERIOD.
Painful to see all the talent passed on (Hamilton, McDuffie, etc...)

Jameson has been a disaster. But I did say, as he was starting to come on … as in the last 3 games.

In other words, a disaster like our disaster who is at least starting to get more playing time and show something.

i never watch college football because of the time difference where I live, and I've got a family that only gives me one game a week, and that's the vikings...

i just watched the 20-minute versions of the sugar and rose bowl games...michael penix is going to destroy michigan - the wolverines don't have the offense to stay with Washington, and that quarterback at michigan - do not draft him; he's a poor man's nick mullens....

Washington +4.5 = easy money....

i know you think i'm crazy and I don't know shit, and maybe you're right, but i'm putting my money where my mouth is....

Yeah, Washington has a WR projected to go top 10 and a couple of others who are real good. It could be a case of who benefits from who. Based on how Penix passes, those other WRs are probably benefitting from him. Mutual benefit WRT the other/top WR.

His passes are beyond video game cheat code. It's like he is from the future, the year 2050.

make playoffs:
vikings win
cardinals win
bears win
falcons win or panthers win

move to top 10 draft pick:
vikings lose
falcons win
bears win
raiders win

Trade with the Bears #1 and draft Caleb Williams?

Its like watching Lazarus rise from the dead. Your Caleb mania goes away for a month or two then pops back up, ready to wangle a few hundred times.

Chicago wouldn't do it anyway. Only stupid GM's take an offer to, potentially, give a division rival a franchise QB. Not saying they wouldn't trade the pick. Just not to us.

Yeap. Not impressed either. NC played the Gophers this year so I watched him closely. Heard all the hype but hadn't seen him before. As you can imagine the Gophers aren't a very good defense. Expected him to shred us to death. He had some decent/nice throws but I was not impressed.

Penix is the wild card. I’ve been seeing anywhere from Top 10 to mid 2nd.

My guess is if his medical aren’t a mess, he’s probably no lower than mid 1st.

Agree. Heard a mock draft from a somewhat credible source (Profootballtalk maybe??). They had us picking 10 and taking the edge rush from Bama but Penix was in the 2nd and they had Caleb falling to 5. In that scenario do you trade up for him or take Penix? Daniels was already gone by our pick (4 if I remember right).

We’re beyond due to make a big draft move for a franchise QB. We’re going to be in striking range. Have a very tradable asset.

I hope the report below is accurate and we were willing to make a big up last year for Richardson but the potential trade partner feared how good he was going to be.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4NTmAQRhuU

If true, it gives me some hope we ID a guy or two and take a big swing.

Just caught that myself. I was big on Richardson so I would have been thrilled. IF they were actually trying to make that big of a move I’d be impressed. If the Colts passed on what they’re saying was the proposed offer they are beyond stupid. We’ll never know for sure.

But that definitely makes me excited about the possibility of doing it this year.

Several credible of MN sports reporters have confirmed this. It's not some youtuber rumor. They said that they are certain that when KAM identifies a target he'll move to get him.

Michigan has a fierce pass rush. That could give him problems. Last thing he needs, at this stage of his career, is to be running for his life right before the draft.

Thanks. I appreciate the different take.

I’m pretty comfortable running with this. I like the feel of it. It’s something that will thrill me.

Glad to hear Kwesi saw my posts on Richardson last year, but he may have overlooked all the support hear for DTR, just missed out on him.

Poles might feel like he can fleece a division rival, just like Kwesi thinks he can.

Chicago might be happy with Fields, and IF the Vikings offer more thany other team for the 1st pick, Chicago might take it.

I bet a $1.37 on this happening (Falcons to win) for a payout of $53.06

- maybe I should of bought a half dozen bananas at Kwik Star instead <shrug>

Sure. We could overpay through the roof and Chicago would bite but my God if KAM is that dumb we are in bigger trouble than I thought [:-]

Posted this on the gameday thread:

2024 cap hits:

Lions St. Brown ($1.2) and LaPorta ($2.1).

Vikings Jefferson ($30+ proj) and Hock ($14.1)

$3.3 million vs. $44.1 million

A Jets win may help too.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/7/2024 3:10:42 PM)

Draft Penix with our pick. Resign JJ. Let Cousins and Smith go. Try to keep Hunter, but let him go if it doesn’t work.

Spend the rest of the draft and cap on O-Line.

Defense will SUCK next year, but get the offense ready. Then the following offseason - all defense.

I would very quietly ask around to see what we could get for JJ before I did anything else. A big haul of picks might make our offseason very lucrative. We really need to build up the lines.

The only issue with that is the people picking. They've been abysmal at drafting.

We need draft picks and also talent. It's a dilemma. A player like JJ is uber talented and will likely command 1/7th or 1/8th of the entire cap. Trade him to get picks, but it's almost guaranteed 1/2 of even those selected on days 1-2 will not work out. And with Kwesi, who knows if any will.

At the end of the day, I don't think JJ brings $30-35 million in annual value. Use that cap elsewhere and get the picks (assuming it's a haul).

jbusse -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/7/2024 4:21:10 PM)

There's no salary cap on the player personnel and scouting departments. Given they cheaped out on the GM, the Wilfs need to make it up with some scouting upgrades. It's not against the rules to lure scouts from other teams, is it? I'd go after the Ravens, 49ers, and Eagles scouts. Pay the good ones whatever it takes. The Wilfs can afford it. Kwesi is supposedly an analytics expert -- got to get him better information to analyze.

beo -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/7/2024 5:27:07 PM)

For the shop JJ crowd...
(which is a legit strategy, he could be at his peak value this off season, save cap, etc... I get it)

Here is my counter argument.

Say you get a couple of 1st round picks.

2015. Trae Waynes
2016. Laquon Treadwell
2017 no pick
2018 Mike Hughes
2019 Garrett Bradbury
2020 Justin Jefferson
2020 Jeff gladney
2021 Darrisaw
2022 Cine
2023 Addison

Are there 2 guys on that list that trade for JJ?
Your chances of missing are SIGNIFICANT.

JJ is a known.
JJ produces even with Mullins at qb.

Get a cheap qb (rookie would be my first choice).
The expense of JJ is palatable with a rookie qb.

I don't know that you improve the team by getting rid of your best young player.
