A severe infection in the ear and surrounding area can cause huge problems

Hearing loss, infection of the vestibular organs of the inner ear can effect balance, the ability to stand, walk and run, let alone what a physical head jarring impact AKA being tackled , would do.

Also due the the proximity of that area to the brain, blood supply and nerves of the head..

Erring on the side of caution and ensuring the infection is completely controlled or eliminated is by far how you should treat a valuable offensive player.

Mundt and Muse are fine as place-holders.

I’d rather have hock fully healthy than rush him back and risk his ability and career.

The last thing you want is an ear infection becoming a cerebral infection..

I was thinking vertigo could be the issue. I let an ear inection go too long and ended up with about three months of vertigo. It's like being seasick 24 hours a day.

The only reason I called in sick at work for the last few years was vertigo a couple of times. What a bitch that is to deal with. Your eyeballs just bounce! For me, staying still, eyes closed for a few hours and it went away. I can't even imagine anything long term.

While all true, they are also reporting that he's out there doing indivual drills. Just not team. If he were that "bad" why would he risk that? Just shut it down completely until your good.

Is there really no middle ground between "worst in the NFL" and "perfect from the start"?

Worst President ever and “bestest and bigglyest President ever”

At least he drives in the same lane everywhere he goes..

You're not going to bring that shit over here are you? Come on, now.

I'm saying he was beyond bad last year and showed almost no improvement.

Could he surprise and be decent? Its possible.

Should we expect it based on how bad he was? Nope.

So you think he should have slotted in at RG and be perfect from the start? Rookie QBs, WRs (JJ), CB, etc. don't work that way. I was really impressed with Evans last year before the 3 concussions and many suggest he was a bad pick.

Olines take time to develop no matter how impatient you are.....and a 24 year old guard that started game 1 of rookie season still has development time before you . Don't move him to LG either.

Weird thing is that the posters recommending we tank are the most impatient when it comes to rookies. Ingram is just starting his 2nd season in about 3 weeks....

This is why people struggle trying to have conversations with you. You move the goalposts to impossible levels to try to make a point.

Is there really no middle ground between "worst in the NFL" and "perfect from the start"?

I wasn't the one using the terms turnstiles and the like.

As the #49ers weigh options for Trey Lance, calling his hometown team, the #Vikings (who were a rumored destination before the Draft) makes sense. Nothing is impossible, but MIN has a backup in Nick Mullens and drafted rookie QB in Jaren Hall. Post-draft, these deals are harder.

Some who spent significant time evaluating #49ers Trey Lance suggest a reset with a clean slate, major offseason & preseason reps, and a generous veteran to learn from who is entrenched at starter. Basically, he needs what Zach Wilson is getting w/ the #Jets. #Vikings would fit.

Dianna Russini@DMRussini

The Vikings and tight end T.J. Hockenson have been working on an extension, but both sides are far apart, per league sources.
Hockenson wants to reset the market with a historic contract extension for tight ends.
He has been limited at practice because of an ear infection and back soreness.

Sounds like Cousins has been whispering in his ear. Or his agent's ear ... Hockensen doesn't come across as a 'rape the franchise' type of person.

I dunno much about the contract issues for Kelce, Kittles, Andrews ... but I' wouldn't pay TJ more than those guys.

If I were Kwesi, I'd sit down to negotiations with the Giants 4th down play looping over and over in the background.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/23/2023 7:06:54 PM)

Darren Waller's $17M is currently the biggest TE contract by AAV.

So, if true, he's looking at 18+?

I love Hock, but he's, at best, a Top 5 (maybe Top 8) TE.

Fortunately the franchise tag for a TE next year is around 12M (which might be the reason for the "soft holdout"...

Agree ... the tag / soft holdout is an interesting comment ... hadn't thought of that angle.

I also like TJ. Hope we keep him.

But I could also easily see us over-valuing TJ, given KOCs TE fetish.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/23/2023 9:26:57 PM)

What hock is doing is unofficially referred to as a “hold in”. It’s like a hold-out except you show up so you don’t incur any fines but you still make it clear that you’re not going to be available to play. He’s probably worth a huge contract. Why did we trade for him if we didn’t anticipate this? I’d like to know what number they’re arguing over.

Not sure how faking an injury like vertigo anyone would expect that would increase their value

I saw a fresh take on it. Kwesi hasn't signed anyone to a long term contract outside of the drafted rookies since he took over.

His value is established. He wants an extension and fears the franchise tag.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2023 7:51:41 AM)

One rule of thumb most GM's use is to have an ext negotiated with the player before you trade for him. This was done during the season but nonetheless you need to have at least the framework of a deal worked out.

He probably did better with the "tweak" though when the vertigo ran out of gas ;)

In reality he has reason to worry about it, doesn't he? I mean, cant the Vikes get 3 years out of him and he really can't do anything about it other than refuse to play?

Maybe why Detroit moved him? Not worth the pain in the ass.

Say everything that is said was true, and we don't know jack, how is his approach more of a pain in the ass than anyone else?

I think it may be simpler than that....Addison may become the 2nd target; moving TJ down to 3. Still easily worth more than Kmet.

Haha I was about to post basically the same thing. This is a GOOD problem to have and is unavoidable. That said - I'm still surprised they are reportedly "far apart". I'd like to know which side is being unrealistic.

drviking -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2023 9:38:02 AM)

I like TJ, don't Break the bank yet.

We have a franchise tag option if needed

See what happens this year and then decide

drviking -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2023 9:38:56 AM)

I am not concerned about practice

He came in mid year and was fine

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2023 9:44:08 AM)

Not an ear infection or vertigo anymore. It’s migrated down to his lower back 😉

Not a contract issue though, nothing to see here ppl. 👍

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2023 10:36:30 AM)

No to resetting the TE market. He's good, but the very top TEs dominate when called on.

Another case where stats do not tell the whole story.
