Everyone in the North lost this week, so we are only game out of first place. [:D]

Looking at the division, wow, NFCN has two wins after eight games. Being in a shitty division is another path to the playoffs!

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/17/2023 4:39:39 PM)

NFC South looking good... cause most of their wins are courtesy of the NFC North.

Chargers 0-2. Letdown or balls to the wall next week? Vikes at home with 10 days rest.

Dana Turner -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/17/2023 8:25:58 PM)

I don't post much here any more, just busy I guess. I wanted to chime in on the Risner topic. In watching Risner the past couple years, I would say he certainly isn't better than Cleveland, pretty much equal. Now is he better than Engram, a little. I don't see way folks haven't noticed that Risner is unemployed, while countless teams have injuries on the offensive line. He's just not worth the money that is being talked about for his services. He is better than Engram, yes, but Ingram is just starting his second year, his upside is a good bet. I watched several games already this season, there are only a couple teams that can brag about their offensive lines. That's mostly because the defensive line guys now days are studs. As I look at the league these days, I see better defensive lines than offensive lines. Just my opinion, but what the Vikings need is a stud center. Garrett is just never going to get the ass he needs and that's that. Get a stud center and they can make this work and be respectable up front. I'm not blind, I do see issues going forward, but now injuries have pointed out the real problem, solid depth. If our front office did one real bad thing this off-season, they failed to bring in better second level guys. That's not the group that's here's fault, it's managements fault.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/17/2023 9:37:02 PM)

I have serious doubts about Ingram's upside. If anything he has regressed in year two. Risner is also a better pass blocker than Cleveland. I don't where the Vikings are going to pick up a stud center at this point, but Risner would be a significant upgrade over Ingram.

if i'm o'connell i'm not caring about run blocking...go with 3 wr's and one te and one running back, or 4 wr's and no running back...throw the ball 80% of the time...the holes/space for the rb will be there with the field spread out....

former Viking Kyle Rudolph was on Fox Sports Radio saying Vikings should consider trading Cousins to Jets.

He said you can't afford to pay Jefferson over $30 million dollars a year and also have a top paid QB (If Vikings extended Cousins again). He mentioned KC trading away Hill when they had Mahomes.

Perhaps the ball is in Cousin's court after the season, take a discount (NFL players seem to have too much pride for that, if they take a big pay cut they go somewhere else to do it).

The Vikings front office is on the clock now, I think the honeymoon is over.

It would have to happen in the next week or two, AFC is loaded, pretty damn tough to "sneak into playoffs".

Also for the Vikings, they can likely stay in the hunt in the North with a win this week. Nobody is going to run away with it.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/18/2023 9:49:32 AM)

When the emotion is stripped out, it makes sense to trade Cousins if we go say 0-3. Of course emotion includes making the playoffs, which 44% of NFL teams do. Seeing the 8-9 Vikings win the division then get spanked isn't appealing.

Agree the trade would have to be soon as the Jets have KC and Philly coming up. Can the Jets can handle Cousins' salary or split the cap hit? We'd gain what we could in the trade plus most assuredly draft at a higher position.

Zygi and Cousins would have to ok the trade, seems unlikely both would.

I'm in total agreement. If we lose this week then trade him. At least get something out of him. I have zero interest in being 8-9 and making the playoffs. I'm sure chances are slim but that would be the time to do it.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/18/2023 9:55:34 AM)

Rudolph is right, no way can we pay Cousins what the market suggests.

$32 million to Cousins
$40 million in dead cap
$33 million to JJ

$105 million for two players. It's laughable to even speculate Cousins will be here. AND forget discounts. An ESPN commentator nailed it when he said Cousins is an All-Pro at one thing, contracts.

My only question, and I am not saying we shouldn't trade him, is who plays QB for the Viikings after that? Hall? Mullens? Yuck.

I don't want a piece to be Zack Wilson per se. I would rather it all be draft picks.

But we would be stuck in a BAD QB situation.

I was watching some of the Cardinal/Giants game yesterday. Dobbs looked very good; he really was coached up by the former Philly Coordinator. I am sure the KOC is in on whatever the are going to do with Kirk.

Even with Cousins...I have stated more than once that we should be drafting a QB every year. Sometimes high, sometimes low. but every stinking year. It is THE most important position on the field, and having a young gun under affordable contract can be a huge thing. Also if you have an entreched Starter, it's nice to have a young guy to learn under him and take over in case of injury and also, it makes them more tradable. Draft and develope QBs every year. If they don't pan out, Kellen Mond em.

I'm not opposed to trading Cousins to the Jets, however, we've only played two games and are currently one game out of first place. IF the Jets call the Vikings about Cousins this week, how do you respond? Do you want the season to play out a few more games to see where you're at standings wise or do you pull the trigger to trade him and give up on the season hoping for a high draft pick? If you wait, does that mean the Jets will look elsewhere? Of course, the biggest unknown is whether the Jets have any interest in Cousins.

As much as Kirk put up some nice stats in the last game, after the poor first half, I thought the first drive of the 3rd quarter was REALLY important.

On the play where Kirk had the ball knocked loose from him, had he had some mobility and just ran for a few yards on that play, it could have been the difference in the game.

Kirk reminds of Romo a bit, where in many cases he does the team in, then comes back and puts up nice stats in the last half, which makes him look good. But the opposing team gets a little lax on defense, but tightens up when the Vikings get too close

and just what would they be willing to give up, to get him. would it be worth it for us?

They did just trade a bunch of picks for another QB after all.

On the play you were referring to, he was blindsided by the Edge rusher after Oli Udoh turnstyled his protection.

Cousins didn't know what hit him.

Kirk currently is a FA after this year---no way would that be on the table and currently I think Rodgers is under contract for next 2 years. 3/112.

you are likely correct but Jets front office might be dealing with ownership pressures. Cousin's being a FA after the season is a bonus for a team like the Jets. They don't want him long term, they just want him to save their season.

for a #1 and a total rebuild, toss in Hunter.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/18/2023 12:05:43 PM)

There is absolutely no chance of trading Cousins to the Jets.

Its ridiculous.

The Jets have no draft flexibility after Rogers.

They could trade a player(s) but why in the hell would Cousins agree to the trade?

There are only two possible reasons from Cousins' angle ...

Because the Jets are better? Maybe. But switching to a new team in-season on the possibility – a strong possibility yes – that the other team is better IMO is not near enough for somebody that's just invested his whole offseason with teammates and coaches preparing for the season. There are things about Cousins I really don't like but if there was a standard for a team player / company man ... it would look like Cousins.

Because the non-extension this past offseason was a slap in the face somehow? Maybe. I could see him going to another team looking for stability at the position, extending him in a sign and trade thing while a smart GM takes shots at drafting and developing a long-term starter. I don't think that's the Jets ... I think their whole franchise and fanbase is invested into squeezing Rogers for another year or two. I can't see Cousins uprooting for this 15 game uncertainty over the Jets 15 game uncertainty, i.e., playing under the Rogers shadow - especially with him crowing about being back for the playoffs.

Even though the 99.9% writing on the wall is that Cousins will be gone next season, I doubt its an absolute certainty in the minds of Kwesi, Kevin and Kirk. Regardless of the numbers.

If Kwesi and Kevin can find a way to lean on their Cousins crutch for one more year ... they'll do it. Whether they draft a QB or not. I just don't have confidence in them NOT doing something dumb and moving past it ... until I see it.
