The loss sucks but TJ back soon helps

Cashman had hidden the lack of inside pash rush. Hope they can make a move for a DT. Tomlinson? I doubt they can afford Lawrence.

It's good to know that our attitude is we're scared of the big bad Lions. Let's hope the team doesn't harbor that same attitude.

Seriously?

Now you’re just projecting shit that isn’t there.

Negative. It's been mentioned numerous times that the Lions would go after his knee.

How about look at the finish line not one game. What is more important game 6 or moving forward and contending? He had surgery in January.

In my opinion it would have been more important to play him today and rest him until after the Rams game. Would've been up 2 games in the division. Just my opinion.

Is that with the assumption that he was ready? He just returned to practice before the Jets game and had surgery 10 months ago.

One more—on top of the injury; how much has he practiced with Darnold? Another assumption is you can throw him in with a new QB with little practice and we would have won the game.

We didn’t need TJ win the game. Just a first down or two at the end.

it really showed this game...several times while watching, I had the thought of needing a good te and what we could have done with hockenson in there....

- Sam Darnold was 22-27, 259 yds, 9.6 ypa, 1 TD, 1 Int, QB Rating 103.5 His collective rating in the previous 5 games is 103.4, good for 7th in the league. Despite the stats, he wasn't impactful today and showed some of the old Sam Darnold. But did anyone reasonably expect more? Today or to date?

He had 2 really bad plays that killed us.

The INT never should've happened. He had a man wide open at the sticks to his left and he looked him off to go for a bigger throw to his right. Sometimes the safe throw is the right one.

His 3rd down throw before the Lions kicked the game winner should've been an easy 1st down, but he sailed it over JJ. I'm not sure if Addison being in front of the route threw him off or what, but that was a very basic throw he missed to put the game away.

His final throw over the middle was a bad decision, but we were in "we need a miracle" mode at that time.

That's kind of my point.

He's really Sam Darnold* with the asterisk meaning Hey, we're not saying the old Sam Darnold has completely disappeared.

unlike o'connell, ben johnson seems to understand his qb's comfort zone perfectly, and the two are in absolute sync with each other....

self scouting?...from what I've read and seen, it seems like the coaches did more traveling than anything to improve the team....

i do think that with hockenson, it would have been a different game...i was hoping that o'connell would let the kid try a 74 yard field goal - probably better odds than a hail mary....

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 3:24:02 AM)

Get Dexter Lawrence II.

Get CB in the off-season.

McCarthy more clutch than Darnold.

3 problems solved, Reisner helps interior OL, not sure what to do about center.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 4:34:27 AM)

I don't think the Rams will win another Super Bowl without Aaron Donald.

A stud player like Donald, or Dexter Lawrence will cover up a lot of mistakes a coordinator makes.

The Vikings need to get Lawrence, and then a stud CB in the off-season.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 4:36:06 AM)

I have a feeling Maxx Crosby will end up on the Lions.

Or he ends up with the Eagles or the Commanders. Where else ?

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 7:37:53 AM)

OK, MY .02 on the game.

Looked good early went up 10-0 making Lions O look inept.

The the wheels came off the bus. For the next two solid quarters our D couldn't get off the field. Third and 9 no problem 16 yard pass completion. They need to get Goff Nervous, They almost never got close. The offense seemed to disappear. Vikings were getting outcoached. We showed resiliency that I wasn't truly expecting to come back twice from 11 point deficits. But then our offense, when it needed to just get a couple few first downs...wen't 3 and out. I knew then and there we would lose this game.

I don't know if they tried to get too cute or what, but they needed to churn out a few yards and keep moving the sticks staying inbounds. Eat up the clock, make Detroit burn their timeouts but they didn't Then our defense needed to keep them out of FG range and it took two plays for them to get there. Seriously, endgame scenarios like this must confound KOC.

We did go toe to toe with what many consider one of the 3 best teams in the NFL and damn near beat them...but we had opportunities here and didn't capitalize.

KOC and BFlo had to have their best game yesterday and they didn't. This one is on coaching if you ask me.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 9:29:10 AM)

.
i noticed mccarthy on the sideline during the game - he seemed very attentive....

i think that sitting him for a season so he can watch darnold and watch/listen to o'connell is going to be invaluable...seeing those tight and fleeting windows and o'connell encouraging darnold to make those throws will help mccarthy's cognitive rhythm to the NFL game....

o'connell's playcalling is suspect, and darnold seems gun-shy...can't wait for the mccarthy era to begin....

So perhaps McCarthy shouldn't be watching intently nor listening to O'Connell [sm=shrug.gif]

Never before has one injured non-QB accounted for such an imaginary big division swing.

Just overall, injuries happen. To every team. It's up to the other 52 players and the (in our case) 53 coaches to step up.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 10:27:32 AM)

McCarthy wins the Super Bowl next year on a play where he calls a different play than the one that was called.

McCarthy and KOC agree it was a miscommunication [;)].

Did you see our lead footed tight ends? I guess I thought Hock was widely considered a top 5 to 7 TE. My mistake.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 11:03:07 AM)

Looking at the box score it looks like our TEs combined for 5 catches for 13 yards. Not even 3 yards per. Forgive me for thinking Hock can and will provide a nice boost for us in that department. Just an opinion that may be completely off base.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 12:06:30 PM)

I. Gonna go with shitty coaching.. and.. a QB wh can’t read the field calmly when under pressure..

Sitting at home.. watching him have to stand back their.. Pat… Pat.. Pat.. Pat.. then throw a tight widow pass to a guy in heavy traffic .

He completely missed opportunity to “ take what you given.. like jones in the left flat trying to tight window Addison, in heavy coverage traffic.

Not seeing safety undercutting his throw that lead to the interception… tunnel vision, not field vision..

One first down after we got the ball back after the go ahead TD.. just one… that is on coaching and playcalling..

Giving up 2 15 yard runs in a row after a punt…

The end of this game was a defensive failure on every level.

Sam Darnold is not “ it”.. he never was..
you Idiots, and you know who you are, advocating signing him to big money extension contracts and Trading away JJM for draft picks…?

Say that shit again.. in any form, tell me how Darnold deserves a big fat guaranteed contract with signing bonus money..

Tell me how many way we can trade our INJURED rookie for the “ one piece “ that Darnold and KOC needs to win it all..

Go ahead..

My block list needs to be expanded..

Darnold can’t perform under pressure, KOC coaches like shit..

Our defense can’t cover man to man, and our linebackers couldn’t cover 6 yards deep off the line in the middle of the field if we had ten of them and one safety.

You think I’m exaggerating?

Look at Geoff’s stat line and the individual plays…

He ripped our defense to shreds..

The DL and line backers were exposed as frauds..

There is a reason that the teams that are perennial contenders are perennial contenders…

The invest in bog body talent on the LINES.

We chase receivers and running backs with shitty blocking and QB’s with no balls.

Arron jones is a beast, but behind him we have petunias and crabgrass..

One first down.. just one.. and Detroit has no time outs.. can’t run the ball from their own 30 and the can’t get the pass play to guarantee the easy FG from 37 yards out..

Darnold and shitty coaching…

We are what we have been all season..

Darnold and shitty coaching.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 12:28:49 PM)

When is KOC going to incorporate a hard count in this offense? I can't think of one time he's tried one. Yesterday was a chance to steal some yards. I understand not doing it Dobbs/Mullens ect. but he had a lot of time KC's and Darnold is not exactly a 'young QB'.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2024 12:53:32 PM)

I think the lustre has worn off a bit for me and what we have is a QB playing well and well above expectation but not on par with a veteran QB like Goff who has taken years to get to where he is. Much less Goff on fire.

We still almost beat Goff down … if KOC hadnt played safe with 4 minutes / protecting a one point lead by trying to milk the clock. Felt to me like lack of confidence in the offense (ie Darnold), not confidence in the defense to come up with another miraculous stop. You cant give someone who is 18 out of 20 or whatever with 3+ minutes + 3 timeouts a chance. Even if you are conservative by nature, you have to be aggressive.

I swear to God, this HC does some of the smartest and dumbest things, sometimes spooned together.

As for Hock, I used the term full throttle the other day to describe the offense with non-suspended Addison + Hock’s return … which was way over the top because that’s limited by how good Darnold can play. WRs were open on critical plays we didn’t get to - Hock will give us a boost but he’s no game changer. Probably fill the space between Jones and Mundt stat wise.

To clarify my ramble, I’m happy and surprised with Darnold. Statistically strong but he still has a lot learn, still needs a lot of seasoning. Naturally. Easier games coming up, which will allow him to suckle a bit more before empty-nesting into our playoff push, hopefully. We’re still in the thick of it which is great. Although not yet half way into the season.

There is no guarantee that Hockenson in the lineup would have changed the outcome of the game.

That's just random and idle speculation.

Hock is a good player but there is no way to know how things would have played out differently with him in the lineup.
