“I’m not oblivious to knowing this is a business at the end of the day, but I’m confident in myself, I’m confident in the player that I am. A healthy me is a dangerous me, so that’s all I can say about that.”

Invoking “it’s a business” verbiage usually indicates a player knows his roster spot isn’t on lock. Cine very much looked the part of a 1st-Round pick at Cleveland, the first time any Vikings fan could utter such a statement 2+ years. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made Cine the first draft pick of his tenure — notably passing on Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton — and the Georgia alumnus has disappointed to date.

But he did no such thing last Saturday, flying all over the field in what may have been his last best chance to prove himself and earn a spot on the 53-man roster this season.

Great upside.

I will say this ... I am now very very interested to see what happens with Cine ... if he plays against Philly ... and after.

That's almost single-handedly your fault.

The ole if you hear it enough you'll believe it publicist stunt.

Word on the street is Zimmer could make something out of him [8|]

Cine being cut, ending up in Dal and becoming player under Zim … for any other fanbase that would be a roundhouse norris kick to the nuts. For us, meh … bound to happen. Not even a papercut.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/23/2024 9:50:46 AM)

Just read a report about OC Phillips and forgot he was the Rams TE coach. Must be a big part of the TE fixation on our team. For all the prioritization (biggest move year 1 was Hock / one of the first FA signings year 2 was Oliver, etc) odd that we are starting the season with Oliver, Mundt and Muse … not exactly a big helping of TE sauce.

https://www.si.com/nfl/vikings/news/matthew-coller-vikings-veteran-tight-ends-appear-ready-to-fill-hockenson-s-shoes-01j5xnmjn3x2

Its possible Mundt punches through with more playing time and ‘ascends’ … even so …

With Hock out indefinately, Addison possibly missing games, we are going to need a heavy heavy dose of a healthy Jones.

Yeap. I have no proof of this but a gut hunch thinks that one of KOC's big plans was to utilize the run game a lot. One of their biggest misses was banking on Mattison. He was a flop, big time. I forget the exact stat but i'm not exaggerating. He had something like 10 carries, inside the 5, and a negative 2 yards.

Brandel
Badbury
Ingram

That IOL just isn't going to cut it.

Brandel seems like one of the old guard, guess he'll have to do for now.
Anybody but Badbury!
Banking on Robinson to start, you have to take risks sometimes. Get rid of Ingram.

Other deadwood that needs to go:
Bullard, Lynch. Enter Rodriquez and Taimani!
Asamoah, Evans.
Harrison Smith might completely fall off the cliff this year.

I had high hopes for Jurgens getting some work at center, but in the games I've watched him, he gets pushed around more than Bradbury. If Cine consistently plays like he did against the browns, we would be set for the future with him and Metellus.

Which often leads to an unhealthy Jones.

Kwesi has feasted on dinged-up players to offset pricing.

Injuries are already a big issue in 2024 so far.

We’ll need some 2022-type luck to move forward unscathed.

Nate -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2024 1:42:05 PM)

After watching Joseph miss another FG wide right for the Packers this pre-season, I'm pretty happy that we finally switched him out. Other than the blocked FG in the first game, the kicking game has been excellent this preseason. Consistently drilling XPs and FGs right down the middle is hard to process compared to the usual carousel around the 5 stages of grief. Hopefully this is a new normal. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Plus from a quick read on Reichard a week or two ago, it seems he has icewater in his veins. It was definitely worth a shot replacing 'Every XP attempt is hold your breath time' retread Joseph - or any other potential journeyman from the round robin carousel of kickers - with a good collegiate kicker.

Zimmer cutting Carlson so quick is the coaching equivalent of fans judging a draft pick the day following the selection.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2024 6:09:51 PM)

I wasn't able to watch the game.

No injuries. Thats good.

Sounds like Hall had a good game, for what its worth.

I couldn't find a snap count ... was wondering how much Cine played ...

Reading the play by play, it looks like he had 2 tackles, one assisted tackle, one pass interference penalty, and one holding penalty on a kickoff.

I fear my expectations may have been inflated swollen distended elongated unnaturally.

Cut-downs will be fascinating.

Cine looked like Cine to me... I don't think he has good enough football instincts.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2024 8:10:21 PM)

The last preseason game didn’t bring any real talk about it.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2024 9:15:55 PM)

Didn’t watch..

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2024 10:30:41 PM)

Hall looked pretty good despite some horseshit protection. Reichard continued to impress, including a 57 yarder right down the middle.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/24/2024 11:08:27 PM)

I saw a little bit on uzzu while in the car.

Seemed to catch a fg ever time i caught a couple minutes.

I can't tell you whether our guy Cine did well or didn't do well but I'm pretty confident he didn't give up any touchdowns.

edit: I did see Hall get buried a couple times as well

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/25/2024 10:11:24 AM)

Cine did not repeat his week 2 performance. He was pretty well invisible.

What a fricken disaster that pick is and the whole 22 draft.

Speaking of 22, maybe he'd look better on All 22 instead of yesterday's stream ;)

- doing my best to keep this thing rolling

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/25/2024 11:57:04 AM)

There’s nothing more ridiculous and nerdy than Redrafting years past … but …

if we did do our first two picks of 2022, we would have gotten more or at least the same as anybody else in the entire draft, all rounds, as we did with the two picks we sneakily maneuvered and outsmarted everybody for.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/25/2024 12:43:29 PM)

That 2022 draft is going to impact the years where we hopefully start to be a real contender. Rather than have a couple of good starters and a couple of good backups from that draft, there are instead several gaps we have to make up in other ways. Obviously we are currently upside down on draft picks in 2025 (yeah we might get a 3rd round comp pick, but so are other teams).

So then Kwesi has to spend big to sign the top tier FAs. And hope some of the lesser FAs pan out. His record there is spotty at best.

BisonFan -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/25/2024 2:17:05 PM)

So who is getting cut Tuesday? Didn't see the game yesterday, but sounds like Cine is going to be gone.

Really?

To me it sounds like:

- game 2 = good
- game 3 = incomplete information

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/25/2024 3:41:09 PM)

1/2 tackle and one good pre season game.

Trade for a 6th.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/25/2024 4:34:40 PM)

And a holding on the kickoff. That deserves a pass! First time I saw the new kickoff was yesterday on my phone - like: wtf?
