Rocco fell in love with Thielbar. Had many glowing comments about him. And why not? Thielbar was effective and was a great story. But it’s time to let go. Managing isn’t a thanks for the memories proposition. It’s winning the game today.

SWR needs to scrap or revamp the changeup.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/2/2024 8:00:25 PM)

Royce pulled groin and out.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/2/2024 9:03:46 PM)

Duran finally hitting 102 again. It's been awhile. Good news.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/3/2024 6:56:13 AM)

If Royce goes on the IL, I assume Brooks Lee will make his debut.

That's what I was thinking too. Unless Eduard Julien has found his stroke again....

Lee makes more sense though, he is raking at AAA and can play more positions on the field. Rocco does like flexibility in his guys.

Julien experience versus Lee no experience...uugh I don't want to say which way I thinks Rocco will lean but Lee deserves the callup.

Julien can play 2B or DH. That's about it. Lee can play pretty much anywhere in the infield. Rocco very much likes flexibility in his players with few exceptions. Also, Julien only bats LH, whereas Lee is a switch hitter... There's a good chance Rocco wouldn't take Julien over Lee. I think service time will have more sway in the that decision than Rocco's input anyway. If Julien comes up it's likely something to do with that had a big influence on their decision.

I don't think service time will have any bearing on the decision. The Twins were looking at Lee as an early season call up, if not breaking camp with the team, before his back injury

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/3/2024 5:29:20 PM)

Thank goodness logic won out over bringing Julien back up

He's still second on the team in strikeouts after being gone for a month.

Fragile Lewis out until after the AS Break, so we won't see him until August or September. SMH

He was sick in Oakland and this was happening...That's why he was slumping

Ummmmm

No

He was getting breaking pitch treatment. It took an 11 pitch Correa at bat to let him get a good look and contribute

Lee/Castro/Santana switch hitters ALMOST makes the iPad platoon unnecessary.

AMEN

Gets in so much trouble hanging it and his slider over the middle of the plate.

STOP CALLING IT

David Levine -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/3/2024 6:05:22 PM)

So frustrating.

94 total games since his call-up.

Since his debut in 2022, Lewis has spent significantly more time on the Injured List than the Active Roster.

These last 2 seem preventable. Stretch routine or something.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/3/2024 9:33:20 PM)

Thielbar, Okert and Funderburk. 3 lefty relievers. 3 guys that should not be in the majors, especially on a contending club. Gotta figure something out there.

It's kind of hilarious when you think about it. Mauer was called soft and injury-prone his entire career. Yet he turned it into a 1st ballot HOF career. Lewis is infinitely more injury-ridden than Mauer, but I don't hear anything about him being soft. Is the difference Mauer is a local kid? I don't know.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/4/2024 7:58:31 AM)

Mauer got called soft over nonsense like bi-lateral leg weakness or needing to rest for general aches and pains that everyone else plays through. We've been calling Lewis injury prone. Go over to the strib forums and Buxton gets ridiculed constantly.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/4/2024 1:27:50 PM)

I'm gonna say something controversial. Jose Miranda is a better hitter than Royce Lewis.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/5/2024 10:25:05 AM)

Josh Winder has been called up. Festa demoted to AAA.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/5/2024 3:21:28 PM)

Good Lord. Like the bullpen isn't bad enough without bringing up Winder.

Ricky J -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/5/2024 11:24:21 PM)

10/10

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/6/2024 7:27:42 AM)

This bullpen is an absolute shit show. Winder and Funderburk gave up 7 runs in 3 innings. Why Rock-head would throw Winder (a substandard reliever in AAA) into a 2 run game defies explanation. Why Falvine still have jobs when after 8 years, Winder is the best bullpen option they have for the bullpen also defies explanation.

100% correct on all of this.

Winder is the latest "He's on the 40 man roster / we can't lose him" to get too many chances.

They're still "HOPING" that Topa will be back. More damaged goods
HOPING Stewart can come back and go until he's hurt again.

Just watch the deadline and see how they over pay for someone who is mediocre at best.

Varland is getting pounded at AAA. He's not even a decent bullpen option at this point.

Mister Ed -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/6/2024 8:01:21 AM)

Bowman and Diego Castillo were re-signed. Expect one or both to be used in big spots before this season is over.

The offense was fun....except Buxton...and Lee had terrible at bats in RISP spots inbetween the offense explosion.

Ricky J -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/6/2024 9:33:40 AM)

Hey, I'm not coming to the defense of thirteen-five era guy, just saying, enough cheap hits did fall in during this appearance to last a few outings.

Lots of moments not to be proud of but Buxton's swinging strike 3 with runners on and not completely out of it, yet, was a dozzy. I'm sure it hit the chalk in the front corner of batter's box.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (7/6/2024 9:39:52 AM)

Miranda goes for 11-11 today. Unless Rocco benches him.

The longest on record is a three-way tie: the Tigers' Walt Dropo (1952), the Red Sox's Pinky Higgins (1938) and the Cubs' Johnny Kling (1902) all got hits in 12 straight at-bats.
