With two weeks to go until the opener, most any acquisition is going to struggle knowing the playbook, with a rookie QB on top of that. Said acquisition may get up to speed by, oh, week 4... which is when Let's Get Paid returns unless he decides to nap on a freeway again. In 30 hours we can pick up a vet WR for nothing. Why waste a pick for a rental who won't be ready to play?

Howell works out and they have a quality backup only 25 and on a rookie contract. Unfortunately the game happens at a high speed digital pace and Howell processes like a 1980's Beta VCR. The only thing the Vikes paid was the opportunity cost of what else they might have done with #142.

Howell was a complete waste, just by the high INT rate they should have known to stay away from him. It costed a chance to look at another prospect with potential, but at least they weren't stubborn and held onto him as a backup.

McLaurin re-signing with the Commanders takes away one negotiation chip, and could mean the Vikings have to go up 1 more round with their draft pick to get Thielen back.

Barnwell from ESPN is saying the hangup is Thielen's $6+M salary. Seems he is speculating (?) that the Panthers and Thielen both remedy that by chipping in $. Outside of AT, the Panthers WR corps is a dumpster fire although there is probably several young players in the mix. Maybe it's no wonder Bryce Young has struggled. Targeting a guy who is the best of the trash heap is going to cost you. In the eyes of the Panthers, Thielen is damn near Randy Moss.

Not sure where you are going with this. Two of our three qbs are essentially prospects. You need a vet or two when you go young.

I am saying Howell was a bad choice for a veteran to look at, he threw too many INTs in the past, and as you saw, there is a reason for it. I am saying there were probably a good half dozen veterans that would have been a better choice for a 6th round pick, or even one just off the scrap pile that wouldn't have required any picks. Thankfully Philly was desperate enough to return a late round draft pick for Howell.

Bill there were several articles in the last month that talked about McLaurin being traded to the Vikings, many more on Thielen, but several on MacLaurin. One of the articles on Thielen to the Vikings, said Carolina won't be able to get a 3rd or even a 4th round pick from the Vikings with other options like McLaurin, Daubs, Hill, and others that could be traded for, along with some that might be cut. Any decent WRs get cut today, I haven't looked at the list ?

To get a pick for Howell from Philly tells you he has some value in a different system. It wasn’t desperation.

You think we can have two WR making over 25 million? What is Cincy paying for Chase and Higgens ? It's ok to go out of conventional thinking, if you think you're team could be a Super Bowl contender. One article I read, they thought Addison was too much of a troublemaker, that the Vikings could have the 3 WRs this year, then trade Addison next year or the following year, keeping JJ and McLaurin as your WRs.
