Huber made the 53.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 12:10:53 PM)

Former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel has yet to sign with a team in free agency as he continues to recover from offseason neck surgery.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Samuel had a spinal fusion procedure done this offseason and is now due for a CT scan in October.

After that, Samuel will explore his options in free agency with the goal of getting back on the field for the second half of the 2025 campaign. Fowler notes that "several teams have kept in touch" with the young cornerback.

In a huge twist.

For some reason the Vikes appear to be waiving Gabe Murphy.

I don't get it.

I always find the 53rd to be interesting, wondering initially if they'll actually stick

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 12:59:13 PM)

I never really thought much of Bkackman.

Watched him chase from behind. Lay off hits.

Kwesi has let CB become a need.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 1:11:52 PM)

The Vikings can sign any WR, it doesn't matter which tier you place them in.

Circumstances change, the Vikings could have overspent and gotten a top tier guy if they were concerned about Addison still getting into trouble.

The McLaurin signing doesn't by itself keep the value for Thielen high, but combine that with other WRs getting signed, and it plays a role.

But with studs like KJ Osborne getting released, that should offset that, and bring the value down for Thielen, perhaps a 5th rounder now, along with taking on a good portion of his contract.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 1:41:42 PM)

As of now we only have 4 CBs on our roster.

Zemaiah Vaughn, an undrafted rookie out of Utah, had a strong offseason and training camp, but his preseason performance left plenty to be desired. The Vikings are down to four corners on their entire roster right now, so additions are undoubtedly coming.

This strategy eludes me.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 1:45:29 PM)

12:44 p.m. — Thielen trade unlikely right now?

Adam Schefter doesn't think an Adam Thielen trade to the Vikings is likely at this point, he said on the Pat McAfee Show. Minnesota and Carolina seem to be too far apart in their discussions. Schefter mentioned K.J. Osborn as a fallback plan for MIN.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 2:04:05 PM)

Robert Woods, KJ Osborn, Mecole Hardeman, OBJ

Just some names that are available at WR

Mecole Hardman would be interesting.

He's a jet that can play WR and return Kicks and Punts.

Hasn't been as productive the past few years, but is still just 27.

You think we can have two WR making over 25 million?

What is Cincy paying for Chase and Higgens ?

It's ok to go out of conventional thinking, if you think you're team could be a Super Bowl contender.

One article I read, they thought Addison was too much of a troublemaker, that the Vikings could have the 3 WRs this year, then trade Addison next year or the following year, keeping JJ and McLaurin as your WRs.

Their thinking is not to spend on defense......does that look to be the case in MN?

Pretty sure Thomas is one of the cuts today.

and Hailassie they may be listing as a Safety now.

There is another Thomas at safety.

Usually there is wheeling and dealing for a few days, so we'll likely pick up 1 or 2 CBs. The Special Teams coaches are in overdrive now.

Who are the token place holders on the 53?

Chandler and Tim Jones?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 4:16:59 PM)

RB Jones, Mason, Scott, Chandler.

Ham on IR until week 5. That's when Chandler gets da boot.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 4:17:53 PM)

Keys and Chambliss at LB? Things will sort themselves out.

**********

I can see T. Thomas maybe surviving the week if Metellus is a defensive rover.

**********

CB TBD.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 4:38:35 PM)

Bring back the Duke?

The Colts are releasing CB Duke Shelley, per source.

Signed by Indianapolis late in camp as the team dealt with secondary injuries, Shelley made a great impression, but the team decided to go in a different direction.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/26/2025 4:39:07 PM)

22 new players. 5 FAs resigned.

$61 million above the cap for next year as of basically this morning. Some of the signed FAs will be one-year wonders. Then again, Kwesi always has more void years to stash his credit card balances.

We'll see after the dust settles ...

Sure seems like a lot of newbies (UDFAs and late pick depth) for a team that chewed through solid cap space this year and next ... like they're hot to win it this year.

As you say, Kwesi will simply push back / fudge / massage / doctor cap space year to year. Not sure a dicey cap situation even has any meaning anymore.

We seem to have changed our approach to depth ... Not that a lot of barely adequate veterans is a good strategy, but while starters look solid mostly ... the backups seem mostly unknown.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 5:17:08 AM)

.
seven rookie udfa's....

QB Brosmer
WR Price
TE Yurosek
G Huber
DL Elijah Williams
EDGE Chambliss
ILB Keys

Yeah, maybe with the regime getting their extensions they are comfortable pushing the envelope by going with unprovens with hopeful upside vs stagnant low floor vets.

It is strange. It's as if they said if you have more than 3 years experience you will not be a backup. Wentz probably has more experience than all the backups combined.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 7:19:43 AM)

2026 Cap:

JJ 39
O'Neill 23
Darrisaw 23
Greenard 22
Hargrave 22
Allen 22
Hock 21
Murphy 20
VanGink 19
Fries 17
Jones 14
Kelly 12

Meanwhile, for this year there are like 15 guys making around $1 million or less.

Just trying to view the roster from a cap standpoint.
