2026 Cap:

JJ 39
O'Neill 23
Darrisaw 23
Greenard 22
Hargrave 22
Allen 22
Hock 21
Murphy 20
VanGink 19
Fries 17
Jones 14
Kelly 12

I have my doubts the bottom 2 are kept at those cap numbers.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 7:43:59 AM)

Jones is a $7.2 cap savings transaction waiting to happen next year.
Hargrave $11
Kelly $12 (100% cap friendly)

Not too worried about being $60M over considering it's easy to lop off giant chunks.

Meanwhile, for this year there are like 15 guys making around $1 million or less.

Just trying to view the roster from a cap standpoint.

The strict haggling for Thielen may indicate simply adding to our $1M ganga bin at this point.

I was hoping to gorge on at least one or two more mediocre journeyman FAs … a shame we barely missed on McLaurin.

I wonder if Kwesi did a self analysis on his drafting and just said screw it, why not just put a waiver claim on that UDFA from the West Texas School of Underwater Welding.

The draft just brings ridicule, while hitting on UDFAs looks genius.

You have to admit at least that he's got the UDFA thing nailed.

For sure.

He’s doing well in FA also.

Not sure he’s as good at the trade part of it.

interesting transaction

5th next year, 4th the year after
… for them

Thielen and a 5th the year after
… for us (a 7th is neither here nor there so a conditional is even less)

Wonder if the salary was adjusted.

Tall cotton for an older wr who missed 7 games last year but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t add some oomph to this offseason.

Screw the draft picks, we wouldn’t know what to do with them anyway.

Find a cb please and I’ll be the lead wagon donkey out the gate.

He's still got it. He was good until the injury last year. We need him to be a no 2 for three games, then a WR3 the rest of the way. With Jets, Addison, Hockenson, and Theilen, with the occational Nailor in there and Aaron Jones and Mason out of the backfield.

This team will live or die with JJ McCarthy this year. Revamped Oline, all that talent in the skill positions, the only real question mark here is the QB. And by all accounts at practice etc the guy is legit, a football junkie, and super competitive. He will make mistakes
but he seems like the kind of guy that will learn from the mistake, not doom himself to make it again and again. He's the kind of guy that will double his efforts if he errs.

I am really excited about this offense.

Now the defense looks like it can be suffocating, but we are really light on CBs right now. I think we need to acquire a couple more for depth

We’ll see how it unfolds. Everything is on paper until it isn’t.

But as someone that begged for a strong QB draft prospect over continuing to overpay Cousins, I’m ready to roll with this option.

Yes, McCarthy’s cieling is the team’s cieling.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 9:52:31 AM)

Of course, one downside to signing Thielen is that one of our freshly minted newbies is about to be separated from their nfl dream and forced to become a sign spinner, professional line stander or sock puppeteer.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 9:59:59 AM)

I guess thats a mean-spirited comment. Hope they land on their feet, as long as their interests dont interfere with the vikings interests …

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 10:35:20 AM)

Interesting trade.

A 5th for a 7th 2026
A 4th for a 5th 2027

Not painful in any way.

Let's go win the SB.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 10:36:24 AM)

Deebo Samuel was traded from the 49ers to the Commanders for a flat 5th rounder prior to the draft.

In that vein, an overpay for AT but not terrible. Guess we were desperate. Other positions have similar caliber backups so even minor in-season injuries could necessitate more trades if we can find some more 4th round picks to use.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 10:38:10 AM)

It amounts to sticky change for a player.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 10:40:08 AM)

What are we down on points after all the dust settles, 20 some odd?

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 10:43:15 AM)

He gets a big welcome back from me. I hope the emotion and rare opportunity has him playing below his age.

Over or under 5 TD's?

I'll pick over

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 10:43:18 AM)

Assuming good health all around, young Mr McCarthy has been set up for success like few other young QB. There are no guarantees, but I am excited to see if the kid is up to the task.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 10:48:58 AM)

Discounting a round for the 2027 picks, it's around 68 to 29. Say 40 points. A very high 5th. Depends on what chart one looks at. Another chart had a net of a low 4th.

Might prevent JJM from getting early David Carr syndrome.

Shades of Daunte Culpepper although not as stacked of an offense. And while I liked Culpepper, there were people who said he needed more around him to succeed. Posters will default to the same thing for JJM.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 11:21:51 AM)

Fun facts:

Bryce Young's QBR was a full 20 points higher last season and over 100 when throwing to AT in comparison to every other target on the Panthers.

Seifert: Thielen has also spent time with quarterback J.J. McCarthy in each of the past two summers as part of a group of Minnesota-based NFL players who work out together before training camp.

JJ wanted him then !?!

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 11:45:46 AM)

Some believe it, some are sceptical but want to believe it

so I’ll just say it

We are going to roll over the nfl like a big purple haboob!

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 11:46:40 AM)

More:

Thielen lead the Panthers in first downs through the air last year with 28 while playing 10 games. 2023 he had 56 first downs, next player had 22.

nfrosty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 12:09:37 PM)

Time to dust off those #19 jerseys.[8|]

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/27/2025 12:21:49 PM)

Can anyone state a reason we can't update our site before it turns 20?
