Good points. It does make me wonder if there is real caution in resigning him from the Wilf’s position. They were quick to resign KOC and he apparently knocked it out of the park in Indy when KAM was sick. There were rumors of KOC getting more power but I never heard what came of it, if it was even true.

Are you talking about the combine?

How did KOC knock it out of the park?

Yes. Several agents came out and said he was more prepared than most of the GM’s explaining the direction of the team and where they wanted to take it. And this was kinda ‘on the fly’ as they didn’t think KAM would get sick. Apparently he had every detail nailed down

Poor KAM, sick for the combine.

Thats interesting. Maybe the agents were just happy to talk with a Vikings rep not requiring Navajo Code Talkers to understand.

nice.

Hopefully, KOC wasn’t too collaborative / didnt divulge too much. It should be pointed out that agents buddying up to KOC is actually MORE complimentary of Kwesi, if you look at the nature of sports agents.

They’re not patting you on the back to be friendly, they’re placing a ‘kick me’ sign.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/19/2025 9:53:03 PM)

But that's just me making light of a situation I know little about.

For my money, KOC and KAM have done well while learning on the fly, fighting a lack of resources, and purging some of the wonkiness of Spielman's and Zimmer's last 3 or so years of turmoil.

They have holes in their games but who doesn't, and I think they are making progress.

The approach has been unconventional but two of the three years IMO we have outplayed our talent level and certainly expectations before each season. Although those teams were short of playoff competitiveness.

Hopefully that changes this year. Its kind of iffy with a rookie QB but I'll take that rollercoaster ride over Rogers or Cousins.

DrToddSeanMallett -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 12:04:48 PM)

This team is in phenomenal shape. What a great hand off to a young man.

JJM would/could gut it out but with this lineup he's going to want to score on every drive. He's going to knock teams out with our big play guys.

DrToddSeanMallett -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 12:12:45 PM)

Donovan Trying To Save Bogey Jackson.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 12:43:34 PM)

Jackson was on the 2024 Freaks List from The Athletic:

A two-time first-team All Big Ten selection, Jackson is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete who has started 26 consecutive games at left guard. The Texan is a former five-star recruit who has lived up to the hype. The 6-4, 320-pounder bench pressed 490 pounds this offseason and squatted 610. His agility is just as impressive. His 1.59 10-yard split is faster than any offensive linemen has ever clocked at the NFL combine since the league officially has kept that stat. (Duke’s Jacob Monk did a 1.66 this year, which tied Weber State’s Sua Opeta from 2019 as fastest.) Jackson vertical-jumped 30 inches and went 9-7 in the broad jump.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5668892/2024/08/06/college-football-freaks-list-2024-bruce-feldman/

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 12:44:28 PM)

From a DN post:

Jackson's a smart guy, works hard on his game:
quote:

Graduated with 3.85 GPA, highest on team — his work during the week shows on field (Texas’ Barryn Sorrell called Jackson the toughest tackle he faced in 2024, “because of his preparation.”)

He's coachable and has a high football IQ:
quote:

Works well in tandem on stunts and sees things well (Ryan Day: “He’s very, very intelligent … (and) processes high levels of information.”)

He has a team-first attitude:
quote:

Selfless; willingly returned to high school roots and played left tackle when injuries hit Ohio State (Chip Kelly: “It’s a credit to the type of person Donny is — one of the true leaders on our team.”)

He plays a clean game:
quote:

Only two penalties over final 28 games (holding vs. Iowa 2024, block in the back vs. Indiana 2024)

He's experienced:
quote:

Has played a lot of football (53 career games, 40 starts, over 2400 snaps in the last 3 years as a starter)

He's effective:
quote:

Over his last 18 starts at LG in 2023-24, Jackson allowed 1 sack, 3 hits and 10 hurries -- 14 total pressures on 592 pass block snaps

DrToddSeanMallett -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 2:32:54 PM)

I love how I see his playing LT as some sort of act of Valor or something. The equivalent is - get the **** in there.

Really?

Asking a guy who is among the very best at his position to move to one he hasn't played since HS is kind of a big deal. If he struggles with the switch, it costs him literally millions of dollars.

DrToddSeanMallett -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 3:11:58 PM)

Guess I missed the article in the middle of the - player tells coach go stick it, won't change positions ones.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 3:15:28 PM)

Yeah. I should probably go with your take over his head coach's.

My bad.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 3:26:32 PM)

Jackson validated the positive feelings about his character with comments about sliding out to left tackle during Ohio State’s postseason run. Jackson had never played the position. He knew he could be affecting his draft stock by playing out of position. That didn’t concern him as much as winning.

Murph -> RE: General Vikes Talk (4/25/2025 4:48:50 PM)

I wanted Zabel or one of the big DT's but they were all gone by 24. Really wanted to continue to address the interiors of both lines. Jackson was one of the remaining I wanted, love the pick.

Our offense is stacked now, without a glaring weakness.

If we stay relatively healthy we'll be a real force to be reckoned with.

I'm starting to feel and dream about the Vikings the way I did as kid in the Purple People Eater days.

Our offense has ONE weakness, an unknown starting at QB, and a backup that's thrown as many INTs as TDs in his career thus far....but then we have the QB whisperer as a HC so...It may turn out to be a strength when all is said and done.

Yeah as it stands now … all the eggs in one basket is quite the gamble.

But … I’m tired of banking the roster on QBs that are tried and true functional with with no big game nerve. Its possible that both Cousins and Darnold can get beat up enough in big games to get over the hump and not be overwhelmed by the situation … how many big game situations will that take?

At this point, I’d rather just gamble on a young prospect you think has the grit and leadership that will get YOU over the hump when they get to that situation.

And though he hasn't played in a big game at this level, JJM has played in big games in college, including national championship game and did not wilt.

So there's that.
