"Unfortunately, the Vikes Oline issues were too big of an issue to overcome regardless of who was under center."

Was on a 2 day road trip last week and listened to a lot of NFL radio. Of course there was a lot of discussion about Sam Darnold. One of the guys on the station who knows the game inside and out was talking about Darnolds last 2 games as a Viking, saying "yes he stunk against Detroit but in the game against the Rams there is not a QB in the NFL that could have won that game behind the performance of the Vikings O-line in that game."

We also have a coach who refuses to design quick hitting plays with said offensive line. Don't forget a WR paid tons of money only to get shut down at the sight of good teams. Seems like Seattle coaching staff has a clue. Ours doesn't.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/9/2026 8:13:56 AM)

It's going to take a few years of solid drafts to fill the glaring holes on this team and rebuild regardless of who they have at QB. Hopefully they can find a sensible GM this time who can help them do that.

Or in the immortal words of NFL guru Mark Wilf, competitive rebuild.

31-7 as a starting quarterback since the beginning of the 2024 season. But, wasn't good enough for the majority of Vikings fans.

I think most of you can officially stop acting like you think you know better than the GM. You were right there with him.

Did you think the Vikes would have won with Sam? [&:]

I know the answer.....adamant no. No top 3 run game or defense (which is why Seattle won).

There is only one thing we know for certain. The guy you wanted to play quarterback had them missing the playoffs. What Darnold would have done is an unknown.

Nah we know for certain....we didn't have the top 3 rushing offense and top 3 defense Seattle had all year.

And Seattle wouldn't have had Sam Darnold. It's all speculative. The Seahawks were a 10-7 team the year before with the same players.

Never discount leadership.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/9/2026 10:00:29 AM)

Of course SEA is better this year with Darnold! No one disputes that.

But MIN this year would not have been as good as SEA - even with our current roster - which was not possible if we had to pay Darnold.

These things do not have to be mutually exclusive, unless you are someone hell-bent on claiming you were "right". Sheesh.

Darnold was a great addition to a stacked team - he was enough to win the SB - pretty mediocre in the game - but didn't implode. Keeping him on a team that would have been even less-stacked than this year's roster likely means much worse results. Have you seen our O-Line? SEA RB won SB MVP.

Darnold + SEA > Darnold + MIN. That does not mean he sucks or that MIN made the wrong choice. It means he fits better on their roster when you consider the totality of all of the facts.

None of you folks thought it was possible to win a Super Bowl with Sam Darnold. You people were wrong. That's the bottom line. Everything else is speculation.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/9/2026 10:12:46 AM)

I thought Darnold was competent, certainly an exponentially better player than he was with us. Threw some good passes, missed on a lot … not taking sacks was his biggest contribution to the game. I thought he did a great job with that. In our last two games he was either frozen with indecision or bailing out of the pocket in huge 20 yd circles with his back to defense. Vastly different player. Was that improvement on Darnold, on the Sea coaches? Was our staff part of the problem or were we just a stepping stone to him becoming more mature?

All of the above in no discernible order.

For my money, Darnold has turned into a much better player than I thought but, you cant lead the league in turnovers and be anything more than a ‘hit or miss’ competent qb. Maybe he’ll continue improving …

This is only a big deal if you have personality issues and deficiencies you are desperately trying to compensate for. 10 times more important for this space is what we do in the next 4 or 5 weeks to improve OUR qb situation.

It wasn't the same players......Kupp, Leonard Williams, and others in FA and a hell of a draft.....

Exactly the same team except Sam Darnold....[&:]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/9/2026 10:30:17 AM)

Darnold was competent

Pretty spot-on description. I was really excited after KOC's first season and thought we finally nailed it. As the years have gone on I've started to change that tune. I'm super happy for Sam but I agree that he wouldn't have done as well in MN. Nothing against him, it's against the system. Until he proves me wrong, I'm out on KOC. You can put lipstick on the pig by firing KAM (who deserved it) but this team is not going anywhere.

No cap room
shitty OLine (for years now)
Super expensive WR with nobody to throw him the ball
Diva #2 WR who probably finds another way to be an idiot
Don't even pretend to care about running the ball
and, oh yeah! 2 cap guys marauding as GM!

Fun times ahead for sure [&:]

Bingo! I'm happy for Sam as I've always rooted for him. He's definitely got all the physical tools and he played well in the playoffs. That's great!

My issue with this team has been KOC for a while now. The Rams game last year exposed him. The offense was lost and running long developing plays.

Add to that we paid a WR huge money and if you look at the tape he doesn't get open against the better corners of the league. Fun times for sure.

You can stop the "you folks" and "you people". I know it helps with the Brad vs Everybody narrative you like so much , but it's just not like that.

I don't think MIN could have won a SB with Darnold. I still stand by that. The SEA roster is stronger, and would have been even more comparatively stronger if we had to skimp in other areas because we were paying him.

I am surprised he was able to win a SB, but did not think it was impossible. SEA was a great fit! I've said before: no Sam hate from me. Good for him. Seems like a good dude!

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/9/2026 11:06:31 AM)

PS - Maye was hot garbage in that game. SEA defense was great, but he sucked.

Oh yeah - and so did Bradbury and that OL!

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/9/2026 11:32:10 AM)

And we are back to relying on a short term qb fix.

I myself would not resign Cousins. It’d be like asking your sexual abuser out on another date because the first date cost you $$$$ and the second one will only cost you $$$.

For sometime in forever, we may at least have something legitimate slowly percolating behind our starter … that remains to be seen. Given last year, I’d bump Brosmer for a mid-rd qb and have brosmer compete with a 5-7 rd player for the ps … in addition to the FA starter we bring in. Yes … if I were the placeholder GM, I’d be like the glutton sinner in Se7en (but with QBs), until somebody stands out.

Its shocking looking back on our backups / projects. If Keenum hadn’t erupted like mt st helens … not even sure how long a solid qb depth situation has been outside of that.

I guess last year was supposed to be that. It weren’t.

A plethora of CBs, a plethora of QBs, a plethora of OL …

(Flores buys your front se7en one year before major augmentation)

easy peasy.

It's way more nuanced than that and you know it.

You should really stop seeking validation for your ego. And furthermore, My Father taught me I don't need others to tell me when I'm right. That's arrogance and egotism. Grow up.
